Soali was bouncing around mud puddles again. The lioness she had met the other day, Aushi, had unfortunately lost the game long ago. But not this cub! Her legs were wobbly, but she kept going, dodging the puddles in her path and narrowly missing a hill where she could have fallen in and lost the game for today. But she didn't, and kept going.
After a while, the cub was panting so hard that she had to take a break and rest herself. Then she became thirsty, so she stood and wobbled to the nearest watering hole, almost collapsing in the cool liquid once she got close enough.

Bekile tilted her head as she watched the little brown female with amusement. She was always fond of cubs and this was a rather cute little thing, though very hyper. The dark lioness had been watching the little one leapfrog for most of the day.
Now that the little one flopped down, the heavy set lioness got to her feet to go over to the little girl. "Well hello kitten. That was some impressive leaping there." Her violet eyes where friendly and gentle as she sat beside the little cub, curling her tail around her haunches.

She let her front paws dangle in the liquid then leaned in to take a small drink, resting on her stomach while doing so. It was a comfortable position. The voice made her whip her head around in that direction, and she smiled at the pretty lioness walking towards her.
"Thank you!" Soali beamed in pride. She had taken a lot of time practicing how to jump those long distances (for they were very long, for a cub) and was happy to have had a spectator. "I'm Soali," she introduced herself. Manners were key, as usual.

Bekile chuckled as she streched out on her stomach beside the little one. "It is a pleasure Soali, I am Thembekile but you may call me Bekile. Tell me, how did you learn to leap like that. It is a very impressive jump and a mighty hunting skill."
Cupped shaped ears perked forward as she smiled patiently at Soali. Some adults might only pretend to be interested in what a cub had to say, but Bekile honestly want to know. She firmly believed that cubs should be encouraged to learn and be listened to.

Soali beamed at the older lioness, Bekile. "Thank you! I dunno how I learned it. I think I was just bouncing or jumping around one day and thought I could make it over a puddle. But I didn't. So I kept trying and trying and finally I jumped all the way over a puddle!" For both the reason of bragging rights of jumping over huge puddles, and because her parents were not so thrilled that she had kept coming home at night dirtied from the mud she missed and slipped into. That's why she was careful, also, to try and wash off her paws before she came home.
"Have you jumped over mud puddles before?"

Bekile laughed softly as she studied the brown little cub. "Many times sweetling." Looking around she winked before whispering to her, "I will let you in on a secret. We adults act just as silly as you cubs do, just we do it when no one is around."
She chuckled rolling over onto her back to squirm, scratching her shoulders against the ground. She was well aware she looked silly, but in her present company, she didn't think it mattered too much if she were dignified.

Soali looked at the older lioness with a puzzled look on her face. Why do something fun and silly if no one else was around to watch and even join in? Maybe adults lost some of their senses when they got so old. That explained it. The cub hoped that she would keep all her senses when she grew older.
But she did giggle at the little wiggle-worm dance Bekile was doing. She decided to copy her new friend, and plopped herself down onto the ground as well. "This is fun! It feels good, too," she commented, addressing the scratching on her back.

Bekile laughed softly as she slapped a paw a good foot away from the Soali's tail just playing with her. "Oh mocking me will you? I might just eat you up." Her violet eyes sparkled with amusement as she watched the young cub.
In the playfully little girl, she saw the hope that her own unborn children would have a chance to grow up like this little girl, playful and safe n the swamps. Bekile shook her head to clear her mind and get back to their game.

Soali squeaked and quickly retracted her tail closer to her body. And then when she realized it had all been done in teasing, she reached up and, with a paw, pushed some of the mud back over to Bekile's side.
"Nooo, don't eat me! I'm all covered in mud and I don't think I would taste very good." And then she rolled back over onto her stomach and started wiggling around that way, truly covering herself from head to tail with the icky goo.

Bekile laughed again nosing little Soali when she smears mud into her fur. Reaching out, Bekile laid her paw on Soali's belly smearing the mud in more. "I think you missed a spot sweetling."
Her violet eyes twinkled with mirth as a soft chuckle spilled from her muzzle. She was such a delightful little girl and gave Bekile hope. "Tell me kitten, do you like living here in the swamps?"

Her parents were not going to be happy at all when she came home, muddier than the swamps they lived in. Oh well.
She giggled as a large paw slathered the mud all over her stomach as well, truly covering her from head to foot. Soali jumped up and almost splattered the goo every which way when she did so.
Did she like living here in the swamps? "It's home!" she answered immediately. "I don't know anything else, though. I've heard things like how the desert is really hot and dry. There are jungles out there, too. And there's even an ocean with a pride that lives there! Have you been there?"

Bekile chuckled softly as she stood up. "No little one, I have never been to the ocean. I have lived in the planes when I was a cub and now I live here." Looking down at the muddy cub she laughed again.
"I think it is time you head home little one."
The heavy lioness was getting rather tired herself. She had found herself getting tired more and more often lately and this little outing had worn her out.

Aw. Well, perhaps Soali would visit the ocean one day! She would make sure that she headed that way when the cub went on her naming quest soon enough.
"Okay! Nice meeting you!" She grinned at the older lioness and bounded off, heading home. Her parents wouldn't be too happy to see her all muddy, but she would stop in a water hole first and clean up as best she could. Maybe then her punishment wouldn't be as bad.
