Thembekile sighed softly as she trudged through the thick mud. The dusky blue lioness didn't seem to notice the light drizzle of rain that plastered her fur to her skin, nor did she seem to notice the mud that clung to her belly and legs. Nothing seem to matter to her but from the turmoil in her violet eyes, it was clear that some internal torment plagued her more than any physical discomfort.

Flopping down near the edge of the swamp, she stared into the murky water as if the answer to her problems might be found in the muddy depths. Suddenly she growled angrily rising to her feet, her tail lashing the air behind her.

"It wasn't my fault!!" The words blurted from the stocky lioness's muzzle even as her sudden anger drained from her body leaving her again staring into the water mournfully. "It wasn't..."

Bari was swimming peacefully in her little pool. The rains from yesterday had greatly filled and increased the water to a maximum amount; so much that the liquid was easily spilling over the sides and getting soaked up by the surrounding ground. It was also raining again today, a light sprinkle that the lioness enjoyed to feel on her skin.

And then, suddenly, she heard a yell.

"It wasn't my fault!"

Bari stopped curiously and listened for perhaps another one, another sound to lead her in the direction of whatever creature could be yelling her torment aloud. Not hearing anything else, the dark lioness leapt up out of her pool and trotted into the direction that she had last heard the voice, hoping it was leading her in the right way.

The soft, choked sounding whimpers that seemed to be coming from the bog was a good indication that someone or something living was in there. Though why anything living would want to be -in- the bog was anyone's guess.

Bekile shuddered as she hunched down against the ground, her ears plastered flat back against her skull. How could she have come to this? Vestip had left her, just suddenly disappearing one day. Unus was courting some other woman.... But he deserved to be happy. She didn't, it was as simple as that.

"I'm sorry, am I intruding?" Bari had found the lioness, almost curled up into a ball, right after she had heard the shouting declaration to the skies above. The black female hadn't meant to truly impose on the other's private time.

But if she needed help, Bari was not one to say no. She wouldn't be all insistent, but if asked, she loved to help others with their troubles. Call her a counselor-sort of lion, and you got it right.

"Can I help you with anything?"

She wiped a huge paw over her face whipping away the evidence of her tears. "Forgive me, I didn't mean to disturb anyone." She tried to summon a weak smile but it was obvious that she failed.

Sighing again she looked down at her feet, "I am sorry I just..." Bekile's violet eyes were dark with pain as she looked up at the other lioness. "How does on atone for destroying everything they love?" Another racking sob tore through the dark blue lioness.

"No, it's fine," Bari insisted, coming a bit closer. She didn't like to see anyone in pain, after all. Or any kind of distress. And this lioness was obviously in distress. Otherwise she wouldn't be crying.

She smiled a sad smile at the blue lioness.
"You don't. Time does," she explained simply. "And through time, you can learn to deal with it. You can apologize all you want, but in the end, only after time will someone truly reach a logical, reasonable, and true decision about the events that took place before." Time heals all wounds, disagreements, troubles. Bari was a firm believer in this kind of thing.

Bekile gave the other lioness a weak, watery smile but nodded her head slowly. Her mother had always said the same thing, that time healed all wounds. "Thank you...honestly more than anything I just needed a kind word and someone to listen to me."

She wiped a paw across her face, clearing away her tears before she gave the other lioness a sweet smile. "I am Bekile, forgive my earlier rudeness it has just been a stressful time trying to settle in."

"I'm Magebari-gura, or Bari for short. And please, it's no problem," the black lioness insisted, smiling again. "I've been told I have a good ear for listening, as much as I like to talk, too," she added with a laugh. "So because of that, I try to make good use out of them when I can. I'm glad to have found that they helped a bit, for you."

The light drizzle of rain that had been plopping gently on the two of them lightened up and was soon gone, but no sunshine came out afterwards. Perhaps that was the biggest thing Bari missed from her old home. The sun. Sure, the swamplands saw a good bit of it here, but not nearly enough for this lioness.

Bekile chuckled softly as she sat up a gentle smile on her face. It was a bit of a relief to have someone that was willing to listen to her. "It is a pleasure to meet you Bari. It does help to have someone to speak to...if you wouldn't mind hearing the whole story?"

Bari made her self comfortable, nodding assuringly at Bekile to let the lioness know that she truly would like to hear the story. Perhaps if she did, she would be better able to help the other female in whatever plight it was she had plaguing her.

A friendly face, shoulder, and ear was all Bari needed to offer.

And then Bekile began to tell her story, starting from the beginning and leading up to the end, and the two lionesses stayed in that spot well into the night as the younger tried her best to help the older, and as each learned new things about life in general.
