this started as a comment by Tok in the Pictures thread in Central Section, and generated some interest, so i thought i'd give it a go
basically, the idea was that it would be cool if a load of us sent photo's to someone, who then compiled them into a very steampunk-y guild group photo, i said i would give it a shot, so thats what i'm doing.
if you want to be in the photo, simply post here and link me to a photo of you
photo's need to be: - Showing the whole body, i cant make a group snapshot if all but one of us can be seen fully, and the other is just a head and shoulders in front... basically, take a photo of yourself where you are entirely in the photo - Poses: i dont mind really, i think it would be good if we had a handful of people standing, then a handful kneeling in front, and finally one person lying in front of all the rest. - photos need to be Well-Lit, otherwise if most people are in sunshine, and the rest are totally shadowed, it would look out of place. - object shadows dont matter really, if the photo has a shadow on one side of the face, but most have shadows on the other side, i will simply flip your photo to make it fit.
also, what about an environment? if anyone has any good photo's of environments i could put us all in it would be awesome

I'd suggest the obvious airship as a backdrop, if you can find a suitable ship and sky background. As I don't have any steampunk-appropriate clothes or props (other than my simple pocketwatch), I'd just be Plain Xeigrich. Might get a picture up soon.
That's another thing, if some people are in their steampunk outfits, and some people are in modern clothes, it might look weird, but not as much of a problem as the lighting and such.

Would this work? If not, I'll need to take another one... or give you one that isn't steamy. Or... Maybe?

So I'm thinking that not everyone has a full body shot, and not everyone has steampunk clothing... so I made this just to see how it looks.
Now what I'm thinking is maybe putting such people behind and in between people who actually have full body shots would be best. Also after effects and ageing it should look oooooooooookay, right? I dunno. I'm thinking sepia tone.

I was pondering if putting them all together in one image doesn't work (due to lighting, poses, etc.) - perhaps assembling more of a portrait gallery.
That is to say, collect portrait style photographs and place them in suitable ornate frames; which would form a virtual gallery of sorts.
Not quite the same 'hey we're all together' look, but it might be good in its own right.

More to the point, I think a more recent (not to mention steampunky) photo of myself is in order anyway.

Iseult Afire Would this work? If not, I'll need to take another one... or give you one that isn't steamy. Or... Maybe? i may be able to use the first one (put someone else in front of you, where the... thing, is (and use the magic of photoshop!) although it may look odd having a dwarf sitting in front of you when you are already sitting down... hmm... could you try another photo at some point? the second one isn't really suitable though, as it has both you and i would guess, your BF/Fiance/Husband in it... and neither of you are particularly steampunky. as to modern clothes, try to wear something smart if you cant get steamy, like a pair of black smart trousers and a shirt with the sleeves rolled up, kinda like a factory worker from the Industrial Revolution...

How about this for a background? This is where i hope to do steamy photoshoots with my friends: That's the Fonthill mansion near my house. This is the tileworks museum on the same property. If you'd like to use this setting, i'd be more than happy to go and take more pictures. Like maybe on a sunny day, rather than the cold rainy one i took those on. Just let me know. It's a 10 minute walk from my place, and i like to eat my lunches and read under trees there anyway. I'll just take my camera with me next time. smile

Oh wow, Dixie, that looks awesome! It's a very good idea. Fire-link, I understand. I'll see if I can get a different one. ^^ Thanks! The one with my BF/Fiance' I chose because I was standing, an appropriate size, and I thought I could be cut out as easily as one would from a normal background.

The one with my BF/Fiance' I chose because I was standing, an appropriate size, and I thought I could be cut out as easily as one would from a normal background. well, cutting someone from a background is an easier job as usually, unless you behind a tree, for example, almost all of your body is visible, whereas in your photo, quite a lot of you was hidden behind your fiance, so unless another guild member could stand in the same pose as your fiance, then it would be difficult to work with without attempting to reconstruct the other half of you (which in it's own right could be fun, making half of you a steam powered robot) or have you simply hugging a tree... @- Agent Ginrei: those are brilliant! if you could get some photos on a sunnier day, it would be awesome! although, if needed, i could select all the white and replace it with what i want as it is all near enough one shade of white. also, if anyone has any good images of old ship decks, i could work a new background into them and remove any sea, so it becomes an airship...

Sorry it's taking me so long to get those pics. When i have the chance to go there, it's cloudy or rainy. When i can't go, it's sunny. I'm hoping tomorrow i'll get the chance. ^_^
