I just wanted to know your opinions, who is your favorite? Mine has to be Edward Emerson Barnard, discovered the Bernard's Loop, known to be a nebula located in the constellation of orion. He also discovered other things in space, but Bernard's Loop is what made him famous.
So... Who is yours? Einstein? Edison? Bose?

I don't like idolizing of individual scientists o_O everyone should go out and do crazy new stuff on their own!
But the man of the hour seems to be Nicolai Tesla. His name seems to be coming up quite frequently these days.

I know I'll probably get lots of criticism for this from hippies and health food nuts, but I admire Norman Borlaug's work. Before any one says anything let me just say this, his work has been estimated to have saved over ONE BILLION people!

Galileo tops my list along with Benjamin Franklin. Remember many great scientists live before the twentieth century.

It would probably have to be Leonardo Da Vinci. Not only was he a classic jack of all trades, he did a lot of designs far ahead of their times.

Yes to Mendel! He's also a favorite of mine, but I'll also go with Varmus because in an ideal universe where I am much cleverer than I am, I would do exactly what he did: grab an English PhD from Harvard just for fun... and then go on to make Nobel Prize-winning discoveries in oncology.
