Bloodroot

Bloodroot sat down cleaning his ears and whiskers nervously, here was his first time he would try and tell a story. He had heard this story from his mother but he wasn’t sure where she had heard it before. The sky was down cast today, the smell of rain was in the air but despite it Bloodroot sat on a fallen log standing up on his hind legs the best he could while he almost fell as he shook in fear and shyness. He looked at everyone gathered a little relived to see not many where yet here and perhaps the group would stay small but maybe it would grow as more people became interested in it. He had picked this story, because he had heard the whispers and felt the change in emotions in the adults for there were simply too many rabbits.

“This story I heard from my mother before she passed on I am hoping everyone will enjoy it as much as I have.” He shifted and cleaned his face in a nervous gesture before clearing his throat and taking a deep breath, “This is the story of El-ahrairah and how The Prince of rainbows tried to harm him and his children but failed thanks to Frith and quick thinking of El-ahrairah.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Prince of Rainbows was up to something in the fine spring morning; it became apparent to El-ahrairah that he was counting his people. Well El-ahrairah was proud of the great number of his people so he went up to The Prince of Rainbows where he said, “You will never be able to count all of them for we are to many and if you do count us all there are more kittens being born all the time!” He said it proudly and preened his ears, but The Prince of Rainbows was not happy at all and he frowned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bloodroot was feeling very nervous for he was not sure he could remember the entire story as it seemed he kept forgetting it as he told more of it.

Teasel could see from where she and her kittens sat that Bloodroot, (who she had taken on as her own when he was just a kitten), was gathering rabbits around for one of his stories. She sighed, not being a very patient marli or doe in general, she didn’t care much for stories herself, but she could see her kitten, Mulberry was desperately trying to listen in without venturing too far from her mother’s side, “Do you want to hear your brother’s story Mulberry?”

Mulberry jumped slightly as her mother spoke, “Oh I'd love to, but not if you don’t wish me too” she snuggled closer to Teasel, burying her face in her mother’s soft fur.

Teasel huffed and sat up, licking her paws and washing her face suddenly, “Don’t let me stop you, you know you’re brother would love to see his siblings there. Now off you go” she had tried to sound as sweet as possible, but it seemed nearly everything she said sounded gruff or touchy.

Mulberry nodded, a small smile appearing on her face, “Oh thankyou! I will return as soon as the story is over, I promise” she nuzzled Teasel’s face lovingly before running over to sit in front of the log Bloodroot was standing on.

((I changed Teasel's txt colour to her eye colour ^^ ))

Creek!
Oh, but Creek was fond of stories, and she didn't think she'd actually heard this one before. But she was also unfond of crowds full of other rabbits she didn't know, and that was an issue that kept her away from a great many such events. He was just a young outskirter though... and there didn't seem to be a very great many people going to listen. Not yet at least. He was brave enough to get up there and try to tell a story, something she'd never in a million suncircles have the courage to do. Surely he deserved some support!

All the while that Creek was trying to convince herself to go listen she was slowly making her way over until finally she was there. Not... really close, but certainly close enough that it was obvious she was listening. She offered a bashful smile in Bloodroot's direction just in case he was actually looking her way before shyness overcame her and she curled into a slightly balled up sitting position.

Ebony!
Ebony had no such qualms about being noticed when she heard the story starting up, however, and bounded over for a front row seat. She sat up as tall as she could and still have all four paws on the ground, exposing the silvery gray strip of fur that ran along her belly all the way from her chin to her tail. If nothing else the youngster got points from her for being willing to stand up and try this!

After a moment of debate she sat all the way up on her hinds and decided to try and keep an eye out for any possible trouble. There was at least one kitten coming over for story-time, and the young teller of the story was somewhat at risk sitting on that log, though his dark fur helped to hide him against the damp and dirty bark. Certainly there were Owlsa on guard in the area, but for the moment not in the immediate viscinity, and it simply wouldn't do for something to happen to one of the next generation when a watchful eye could likely prevent such a thing.

Teasel finished washing her face and stared down at the kitten who had spoken to her, “Rose? Of course you can…why would it be ok for your sister but not for you?” she tried to sound sweet but it came out rather abruptly, "You'd better hurry up or the story will be over before you get there" she gently nudged Rose Petal in the direction of Bloodroot with her nose.

Meanwhile, over by the log, Mulberry waited patiently for her big brother to continue the story. Her dark eyes were gazing up at him with an expression of admiration plastered all over her face.

Honeybell could see the small crowd gathering, and curiosity getting the better of her she nervously approached the group, sitting herself straight down next to Mulberry, shoving her to the side slightly in the process, “Oh so sorry, you were just in my way. You understand”

Mulberry blinked, moving aside obediently, “Sorry…”

(Sorry I am slow but only on the weekends I can role play however school is ending in six days! Monday-Wednesday then off, then Monday-Wednesday again with Wednesday being the last day!!
I very much hope you guys are liking the story I really tried to make it like the author had written but it's hard sometimes.)

Bloodroot was frightened, there were more rabbits then he first thought there would be. He spotted two of his siblings and he cleaned his whiskers happily calming a bit at seeing some friendly faces in the crowds. However as Mulberry was pushed by some other rabbit the fur along his ears bristled unhappily and he batted a paw to her direction in an attempt to draw her attention as he didn’t know her name at all. “Don’t push and say there in the way.” His ears went back briefly before he cleaned his face again weaving a bit as he struggled to regain his balance again on the log but he saw story tellers stand up all the time and so he would to. Smiling a bit again he started back up his story.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Your people are too many El-ahrairah.” He said as he looked down upon the rabbits. “If you do not fix this I will.” Then on some business or another The Prince of Rainbow’s left, El-ahrairah laughed for nothing could be done; however a few suns later his people began to fall ill and new that The Prince of Rainbows had asked The Black Rabbit for help reached El-ahrairah ears. It was said The Prince of Rainbow’s asked The Black Rabbit to send sickness to the rabbits in El-ahrairah warren to make the group smaller.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bloodroot paused, The Black Rabbit still scared him a bit but he knew he was close to everyone. His blood red eyes glance at those who listened, wondering and hoping that none he would see stop running. Tapping his back foot lightly on the log he snapped back into focus, his tail giving a small flick as a blade of grass finally bugged him enough to try and move it away; but finding he could he again started up his story.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many of his doe’s had stopped running in two nights and kittens as well were taken before The Prince of Rainbows came back and seemed to shine brightly and far to happily for all that was happening. “Split the Warren El-ahrairah, there are too many and for now one when you get to many The Black Rabbit shall send sickness to your people until hardly any remain if any at all.” El-ahrairah was stricken, for he had to split everyone up to save them and in doing so would kill them; smaller groups meant less protection from Humba.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bloodroot let out a ghost of a sigh as he stretched making a small break in his story, standing like this was hard he wanted to hunker down and hide but he would do it so others could clearly see and hear him. He smiled happily at everyone, hoping the stories ending would break the sadness that now presented itself in this story. It was sad now but it would get happy for who could fool El-ahrairah?

rose petal starts waggling happily because the story finally started. *sigh* she suddenly notices that bloodroot looked kind of uncomfortabel cause it looked like he was bouncing up and down. when he looked over at rosepetal she winks and mouths " good job" and hopes he notices.

Teasel cringed as she heard Rose Petal call back to her by her name, insted of mother or marli, though they both felt strange to her anyway. Chattering her teeth in irritation as she held her tongue, and found herself a nice patch of clover to nibble on.

Mulberry smiled at her sister as she joined her, completely forgetting about the rude kitten who had shoved her, “The story is going well isn’t it Rose? Our big brother is so clever and so brave to tell such an amazing tale” she gazed up at Bloodroot, hoping she had said those last parts loud enough for him to hear, "Do go on big brother"

Honeybell grumbled as she was told off by Bloodroot, “I shall do what I like, I only came over here to hear your tale” and with a flick of her tail she turned her back on him and hopped further back in the crowd. She wasn’t brave enough to stand there and argue with the male, but she wasn’t about to let him know that.

Ebony was tempted to tell the pushy little female not to be so rude when Bloodroot said something about it. Ah! Props for him, then. She liked a storyteller that was willing to speak out when someone in the crowd got out of line. Stories were supposed to be fun for all, right? And it wasn't like there wasn't much room here around the log to get a good spot to listen from. The crowd wasn't that big, particularly since half of it seemed to be made of the teller's younger siblings. She flashed Bloodroot an encouraging smile and reinforced the kittens' praise a bit with her own words. "Yes, do go on, I don't think I've heard this one."

Creek waited until the minor conflict up front was settled and slowly convinced herself to move closer to the front. She settled in behind the two sister kittens and hunkered back down, hoping that perhaps having a grown rabbit near them would keep anyone else from bustling them. And also hoping that she didn't look too silly and/or terrified now that she was up toward the front of the small crowd.
