The character Name: HWH.0724: "GUNNER" [Humanoid Weapons Hybrid #0724; Handle: Gunner] aka Gunn Mackenzie Alworth Age: 69 Sex: N/A Gender: Female Species Cyborg Physical description: 5'9", physically fit, with a near 'perfect' bone structure, full lips, dark rimmed light green eyes, dusky tanned skin, and full, proportional breasts [not large], Gunn is considered very attractive, but not anymore so than the general population. Or those that can afford to have themselves altered. Certainly not moreso than those also in media-heavy professions. In fact, Gunn is under-done and under-attractive by comparison, which is part of the young woman's strange appeal. One each bicep is the somewhat humorous, bold tattoo 'GUNN', and across her abdomen is the name of her band. Above her belly-button is the word 'OPEN' and beneath it 'WIDE' in large, black letters. The story:
Synopsis: A cyborg on her quest for humanity; themes include what makes one 'human' as well as societal responsibility, prejudice, and emotive connections.
Prologue: An italicized excerpt in a historical text on the past world war, a twenty-two year long war that ended fifty years prior to the present portrayed in the novel. It describes the scientific advancements made, as well as genetic modification. However, it says that modified humans were either killed in the battle or have now died, and slight modifications to the human form are now commonplace [Eye replacements, the improvement of hearing, and so on, as well as certain media implants].
Following the proceeding snippet, is a short chapter showing the successful creation of several full cyborgs three years into the war. Not born humans modified, but illegal creations. [Throughout the novel, there will be short chapters reflection the childhood of these cyborgs, as well as what becomes of them, and the eventual revelation that one of these cyborgs is our protagonist, herself.]
Beginning: Cut to Gunn Mackenzie Alworth, popular musician and apathetic media icon. Despite the regularity of musicians and the general public modifying their bodies to produce better singing voices and faster reflexes, the young woman has no surgeries or modifications on file, other than traditional tattoos and piercings. She plays a form of the guitar, as well as singing, and her oldschool dedication and intensity titilates a society built on laziness.
She seems completely apathetic about being the apple of the media's eye, and is loved for her lack of proprietary and blunt nature. That said, most of her profits go to charitable causes, which she never discusses, and despite rumors of various love affairs, never seems to be in a stable relationship, other than the one she maintains with her band-mates and band manager.
In a future where musicians rarely form bands anymore, generally collaborating electronically, their loyalty is seen as a novelty. Gunn's band seems to put up with her odd behavior, perhaps due to their own [they typical drinking and partying of a popular band], out of what one can only assume is love and respect.
She is often found reading, or listening to various intellectuals, though when asked about the topic, she puts aside the material in favor of moving on. It is also known that Miss Alworth sees a psychiatrist, whom she has been dealing with since her youth and is purported to have been in sessions with her since her childhood in foster care.
Middle:
Gunn's psychiatrist dies in an 'accident', under suspicious circumstances, in her mind. She contacts a private investigator, while also pursuing the truth herself, finding that she's become the sole beneficiary of his estate.
Through a series of investigative events, Gunn uncovers part of the Human Weapon Hybrid project, as well as her psychiatrist's involvement. Included is an upload which she learns to access that contains some of her own memories, and continues to trigger flashbacks and well as programmed behaviors.
Gunn realizes that she requested to have the memories removed to further her quest to become a part of human society, revealing a quiet desire to gain emotion and humanity. She had hypothesized that her memories of the war were putting up a barrier between herself and humanity.
The quest begins again; as well as her desire to uncover the reasons behind her psychiatrist's murder.

Transformation process:
Stage One: Internal Changes! First, our author will begin to lose her emotional capability and pain/pleasure receptors in general. This will end up benefiting her, as shortly thereafter her internal chemistry will begin to change as well. Her skeleton will be altered, bone marrow changing as it becomes a type of metal alloy, as will the bones themselves. This would be very painful, and she will cough up blood and such, but be unable to feel it. [Lucky lass] A change in eye color, general demeanor, as well as skin tone will begin to develop. Changes will be subtle, and would make her paranoid and uncomfortable, if not for the lack of emotion. Thoughts will become highly logical and systematized as her brain begins to change.
Stage Two: Finally, more physical changes, our author is stronger, faster, smarter, more sensitive and skilled. She picks up habits and skills, she had strange flashbacks. More obviously, tattoos have come into existence on her being, her body is tighter, fitter, more attractive, her face is slowly changing structure and the roots of her hair are changing color. She finds herself choosing clothing in the style of her character, and can't find it within her to care.
