Name: Seraphina Cavalier Nicknames: Sera Gender: Female Species: Human Sign: Aries Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Image Song(s): Gunpowder and Lead, Miranda Lambert; All the Myths Are True, Abney Park Marital status: Single Occupation: Magazine columnist/monster hunter in her free time Favorite Color(s): Dark red, soft yellow, salmon/peach, black Favorite Foods: Seafood, especially crab legs, and the expensive kinds of stake she can rarely afford Favorite Music: Musical soundtracks, and anything quirky or unusual Likes: Working out, shooting practice, writing, reading both for research and fun, movies, cats, nighttime Dislikes: Being unarmed, being snuck up on, bright sunny days, “chivalry”, being treated like a little girl Fears: Large bodies of water, especially Bass’ken lake Height: 5’1” Weight: 110 lbs Appearance: Sera has long blond hair and pale aquamarine eyes. She has thin lips and rarely smiles wide enough to show her teeth, a petite nose, and gently pointed chin. Overall, her face is very triangular, very delicate, very feminine. Her arms, legs, and abdomen are finely toned from her daily exercises, and her fingertips are calloused from all her gun handling. Up her right arm are several intricate tattoos, all depicting various protection symbols from various religions and mythologies. On the underside of her forearm she even has a Latin exorcism ritual tattooed, just in case she needs the incantation in a pinch. Dress: Prefers to wear nice blouses, jackets, slacks, and boots or heels. Her favorite jacket is her burnt orange one-sleeve. It exposes all her tattoos as a nice threat to both monster and demon alike. She has a necklace and charm bracelet made of silver, both full of extra protection symbols. More crosses, stars of David, pentagrams, yin and yangs, ankhs, all-seeing eyes... Sera never leaves home without plenty of protective sigils. She’s not even sure if any or all of them work, but they make her feel better. Also, Sera is always, always armed, either a blade, her Vertec, or both. Powers and Talents: No real powers, but can bullseye a target from two hundred feet away with her Beretta Vertec, and is well skilled in various guns and martial art styles. Personality: Extremely stubborn with a quick temper and a tendency for recklessness, Sera isn’t likely to win any congeniality pageants. When she’s made up her mind, there’s no changing it, and the more someone tries, the more she’ll dig her heels in. She gets angry over things she knows she probably shouldn’t, like people opening doors for her. Old chivalrous stuff like that irritates her. She feels that, being female, people tend to see her as delicate and harmless. Though, she’s not a feminist or anything of the like; she just hates being underestimated because she has breasts or something silly like that.
For all her complaints about femininity, and even with all her martial arts, she knows she’d lose up against a man with a good extra hundred pounds on her. That’s why she she’s always armed. Her favorite gun is her precious Beretta Vertec, though she doesn’t get to take it monster hunting too often. The big baddies typically aren’t bothered by little handguns, so she also has a stash of high power rifles and one or two sawed-offs. All her ammunition is special order consecrated silver shot. A few are loaded with regular iron rounds for the occasional malicious fairy. Sera goes armed whenever possible, usually with her Vertec filled with silver shot and a Glock 19 loaded with cold iron. Sera doesn’t like to be taken by surprise. A gun in her hand is more reassuring than a black belt around her waist.
Despite her tough-as-nails attitude, she really isn’t that aggressive. She’ll snip and verbally lash out, but it rarely escalates beyond that. Actually, most people hardly realize all the different ways Sera could kill them. She smiles a lot and is friendly and considerate when she meets people. Only until after they’re friends will Sera start showing her attitude. The editor for the occult magazine she writes for gets the worst of Sera. Their fights are legendary. However, her editor friend is the only other person who knows what Sera does with her free time, hunting things most that people aren’t even aware exist. And though, despite Seraphina’s insistence, that does not grant an extension on her deadlines. Brief History: Sera was raised in familiarity with the strange and otherworldly. Her parents weren’t hunters or summoners, more like supernatural taxonomists. They wanted to learn all about weres, shapeshifters, ghouls, ghosts, zombies... Anything from a horror story or fairy tale, they investigated. Wanted to prove or disprove it once and for all. But for all their studies, the elder Cavaliers tended to think of the monsters as mere animals, harmless if left alone and treated respectably. An unfortunate incident with a kelpie taught them otherwise.
Her parents were investigating a belief there was some type of sea monster in Bass’ken lake. While they searched around the shore, seven year-old Seraphina wandered off by herself. Out of sight and earshot of her parents, she watched, mesmerized, as a slick black horse emerged from the lake and trotted towards her. It spoke to her, telling her to sit upon its back for a ride. But Sera, even though she didn’t know what a kelpie was, knew about monsters and to not trust what they said. When she refused, the kelpie chased after her. She ran screaming for her parents, the water horse close behind. Her father heard her screaming and ran to met her. Fortunately, he knew how to trick a kelpie. He trapped the thing and told it either it could return unharmed or be put to work in a field. Of course, the kelpie chose to return to its watery home. Ever since, Sera has been terrified of large bodies of water. Even pools tended to freak her out.
Her parents were finally killed by one of their “specimens” when she was seventeen. Sera had already learned proper gun safety and was a good shot, so when she found out what did it, she tracked down the thing and killed it. That’s where her chronic anger began and when she decided to make monster hunting her career. She hunted down more evil things than most people even think exist, but tended to stay away from demons. They’re nasty, powerful, and hard to kill. Besides, they usually only show up when summoned, and though she looked down on people who sold their soul for some trivial nuance, it wasn’t something she ever bothered to concern herself with.

The demon I'm questing for is a Nix, a male water spirit who can be either malicious or harmless, depending. There is a lot of lore about them:
Full wiki entry
Here are the tidbits I want to focus on:Quote: The Scandinavian näcken, nøkken, strömkarlen, Grim or Fosse-Grim were male water spirits who played enchanted songs on the violin, luring women and children to drown in lakes or streams. However, not all of these spirits were necessarily malevolent; in fact, many stories exist that indicate at the very least that Fossegrim were entirely harmless to their audience and attracted not only women and children, but men as well with their sweet songs. Stories also exist wherein the Fossegrim agreed to live with a human who had fallen in love with him, but many of these stories ended with the Fossegrim returning to his home, usually a nearby waterfall or brook. Fossegrim are said to grow despondent if they do not have free, regular contact with a water source. If properly approached, he will teach a musician to play so adeptly "that the trees dance and waterfalls stop at his music. It is difficult to describe the actual appearance of the nix, as one of his central attributes was thought to be shapeshifting. Perhaps he did not have any true shape. He could show himself as a man playing the violin in brooks and waterfalls... but also could appear to be treasure or various floating objects or as an animal — most commonly in the form of a "brook horse"... Fossegrim and derivatives were almost always portrayed as especially beautiful young men, whose clothing (or lack thereof) varied widely from story to story. ...When malicious nix attempted to carry off people, they could be defeated by calling their name; this, in fact, would be the death of them. If you brought the nix a treat of three drops of blood, a black animal, some brännvin (Scandinavian vodka) or snus (wet snuff) dropped into the water, he would teach you his enchanting form of music. The nix was also an omen for drowning accidents. He would scream at a particular spot in a lake or river, in a way reminiscent of the loon, and on that spot a fatality would later take place. In the later Romantic folklore and folklore-inspired stories of the 19th century, the nix sings about his loneliness and his longing for salvation, which he purportedly never shall receive, as he is not "a child of God."...In Scandinavia, water lilies are called "nix roses" (näckrosor/nøkkeroser). A tale from the forest of Tiveden relates of how the forest had its unique red waterlilies through the intervention of the nix: At the lake of Fagertärn, there was once a poor fisherman who had a beautiful daughter. The small lake gave little fish and the fisherman had difficulties providing for his little family. One day, as the fisherman was fishing in his little dugout of oak, he met the Nix, who offered him great catches of fish on the condition that the fisherman gave him his beautiful daughter the day she was eighteen years old. The desperate fisherman agreed and promised the Nix his daughter. The day the girl was eighteen she went down to the shore to meet the Nix. The Nix gladly asked her to walk down to his watery abode, but the girl took forth a knife and said that he would never have her alive, then stuck the knife into her heart and fell down into the lake, dead. Then, her blood coloured the waterlilies red, and from that day the waterlilies of some of the lake's forests are red (Karlsson 1970:86). I know, it's a lot. But basically: ✧Instead of teaching her music, the Nix would save her life. ✧In return, Sera must be his constant companion, even after death ✧He wouldn't be a malicious one, but Sera would still search for the Nix's true name, hoping to kill him ✧He'd be able to shape shift ✧Sera would have to move near water, because the Nix moves in with her
And basics like that. ♥

It was supposed to be a routine visit.
She had a little bit of abdominal pain, and she seemed to bruise a little easier than normal. Other than that, she was fine. Just your normal, completely humdrum physical. Weight, acceptable (“If anything, I’d say you’re looking a little thin!”), got to piss in a cup, oh what a joy that always is, a needle in her arm and a few CC’s of blood, and everything was fine. Until she got the call. Then things started getting out of hand.
“Your blood test came back...white blood cells are a little elevated...want to do more tests, probably nothing...”
And she was back for more blood draws, more fussing, “we don’t have the proper equipment, you should go to the hospital, just to be safe”. She lost track how many needles, fussing nurses, anxious doctors, how much blood. Voices just spun around her, lots of big medical words like they were trying to freak her out...
“...maybe just a leukemoid reaction...” “No, no, her CBC-” “-all your granulocytes are elevated-” “-need a bone marrow biopsy-”
Another needle, jammed in her hip, a blank memory of pain, DNA and genetics tests.
“...the Philadelphia chromosome...” “All the tests say she’s positive...” “...9 and 22 got switched...” “Yeah, there’s only one option...”
The swirl of tests and voices never seemed to end. Everyone around her seemed so sure what it was, this blood test-turned hospital stay. The last few weeks had whirled by, and every strange, unnatural, terrible, awful thing she’d ever seen seemed to pause, and suddenly she was just a normal, scared, sick twenty-three year old begging for an answer. Finally, they told it to her straight. That day stood apart from the past weeks; she remembered every painful, excruciating detail.
“Miss Cavalier,” he began, and just by his tone of voice, she could hear it: her death knell. “We’ve run a battery of tests. All your blood cells are higher than they should be. Two types- eosinophils and basophils- are especially high, which we don’t see in a simple leukemoid reaction.”
“That’s... what my physician thought it was, right? Just... just an elevated count because of... stress?” She was proud she remembered all that.
“Yes, but like I said, the uniform elevations aren’t a normal reaction for that. I had an idea then, but we did a bone marrow and genetics test, just to make sure. And, well...” He paused, and all she could think was how awful he was at giving bad news. Stupid doctor. “It’s official: you have CML, or chronic myelogenous leukemia.”
If it weren’t for the stupid beepy heart machine in the corner, she would have said her heart skipped a beat. “Leukemia? As in...cancer? I have cancer?!”
“That’s...not the worst news.” He shifted uncomfortably, and she just wished he would get to the ******** point. “You’re in the last stage of CML called blast crisis. Your biopsy indicated as such; it showed large cell clusters inside your bone marrow. Your prognosis...” She didn’t catch the rest. Only snippets like high mortality rate and bone marrow transplant and high likelihood of relapse.
She wanted to laugh. It was absolutely, positively laughable. The great Seraphina Cavalier, hunter of werewolves, vampires. ghouls, ghosts, and the occasional demon, brought down by her own failing body.
