Jacen was bored, and that was saying something. More recently he had been fascinated with the 'mortal' items in his hotel room. Especially the tv. How did that work? A box with people in it. The elf had never seen anything like it. In Lynwood, they had much higher technology, these were all in history books--unfortunately for Jacen, he wasn't the history whiz Thali was.

He'd finally figured out how to use the phone, though. After calling 911 several times on accident, and having voices demand to know what the emergency was. Kaimi had given him such a number--a longer one.

He decided to try it. He dialed the number slowly, listening to the beeps as each button was pressed. It started to ring. He hoped she wasn't busy, maybe she'd like to do something?

"HELLO?" The voice that answered was fractious and demanding, definitely not Kaimi's. It was, in fact, Kaimi's younger sister. She listened on the other line for a moment before screeching, "KAAIMI! PHOONE CAAALL! It's a boy." She added ascerbically as her older sister dashed to the phone.

"Get off the line, Mara." Kaimi demanded as she picked up the line. "Hello?"

Jacen was surprised when it wasn't Kaimi who picked up. So surprised, that he almost hung up the phone. That was until the girl called Kaimi, and then he knew he had the right number. "Hi, Kaimi?" He asked nervously.

"Um.. I was just wondering if.. It's okay if you say no though.. Er.. Would you like to go somewhere with me?" He finally asked. He was so nervous that he could hardly get the words out right. They weren't even in grammarical order, and elves prided themselves on being word smiths.

Kaimi was busily batting away Mara who seemed to believe it was absolutely her job to listen in on Kaimi's phone conversations. Still, she managed a little grin at Jacen's awkwardness. "You mean like a date?" She asked, infected with an unusual urge to string out his discomfort.

Jacen blushed, though he knew Kaimi couldn't see him. "Um.. No. Well..I guess it could be considered a date.. I mean.. If you want it to be." His face had gone from navy blue to purple, he was blushing so much. "But really, you can say no if you don't want to go." He added in a rush. He didn't want her to feel pressured to go, or anything.

"I was thinking the beach, or something? I haven't really seen much of the town."

"The beach!" Kaimi exclaimed with enthusiasm. "Oh, that would be awesome!" That meant she could bring her fire staff. "When do you want to go?" Her mind was flipping through what she'd need to pack to bring to the beach. Did she have a bathing suit that fitted? She wasn't sure...

Again, Jacen was surprised. "Y-you want to go?" He asked in astonishment. "Really?" Then he was able to recover. "Oh.. Maybe in an hour or so?" He suggested. "I can come pick you up, if you like. I remember where your house is." He paused, and realized that could be taken in a stalkerish way.

"I don't mean like--oh.. I just have a good memory for places!" He explained in a hurry. "I'm not following you or anything."

"An hour would be perfect. Why don't I just meet you there?" She grinned into the phone at his awkwardness. It was definitely able for her to get over her own awkwardness when they weren't face to face. "And at least I know you wont kidnap me, even if you were following me. You missed your chance on that one."

Jacen nodded, and then he remembered that Kaimi couldn't see him. "Sounds good." He said. "Meet you there, then." He frowned at the kidnapping remark--of course he wouldn't! He'd only done that so he was able to talk to her, having known Thali would have kept him from her if he showed interest.

"Maybe you should give me another chance then." He ended, "I'm going to go get the picnic ready, so I'll talk to you later." He hung up, and went to go make peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches. He was showing what an excellent chef he was--in that he could put together a sandwich in less than a minute.

When Kaimi arrived at the beach about an hour later, she looked around for Jacen. It didn't look like he was there quite yet, so she strolled down to the sand and spread out the blanket she'd brought along. She had managed to find a bathing suit, a bright red affair with a white lifeguard cross on it though for the life of her she had no idea where it had come from. Over that she had tied a white sari as a sort of skirt. Figuring that she probably had a few minutes, Kaimi took out her collapsible fire-staff and started twirling it around idly.

Jacen hurried to the beach, carrying a picnic basket full of--well, sandwiches, cheese sticks, and other things the elf enjoyed eating while being on a tight budget. The money sent from Lynwood didn't seem to work here. So instead of being treated like the noble he was--well, he was.. He didn't even know what he was.

"Kaimi?" He called, looking around. He spotted her, and smiled. "I brought the picnic." He said, showing her the basket. "Um.. You look--nice." He said, a blush moving to his cheeks. How he wished he could learn not to do that.

"That looks great!" Kaimi smiled at Jacen, setting down her staff and brushing her hair out of her eyes. "How are you?" She hoped he was getting the hang of Gaia, and that the hotel was better than the ground.

Jacen smiled brightly, before muttering that it was nothing. "I'm doing good." He said with a nod. "Gaia's taken some getting used to. I know how most of the things in my hotel room work now, all except for one. It blows hot air out, and I don't know what it's for. It stays near the mirror."

He paused. "It's sort of shaped like this." He drew a side ways L. "And plugs into the wall. Lynwood doesn't have anything like that."

"Thats a blow-dryer." Kaimi said, plopping down onto the blanket and greedily taking a sandwich. "It's to dry your hair when it's wet." She took a bite of said sandwich and grinned enthusiastically. "S'great!"

Jacen looked confused for a moment, but covered it well by taking a sandwich and sitting down next to her. Why didn't people just dry their hair out in the sun? It was more fun that way.

He smiled. "You like it?" He asked. "I'm not.. you know, a cook like Thali is. But I can make sandwiches."
