User ImageAryaisha was wondering the grasslands when spotting a few trees in the distance decided to give his climbing skills a try. He had not climbed a tree since he was just a cub so he did not know if he would be able to get up there or not, but since he promised himself that he was going to try to get back to his happy go lucky self he was willing to give it a go whether or not he was going to get up in the leafy branches.

Trotting over to the trees he covertly looked around. Not wanting to look the fool he was only going to try in privacy in case he fell. Once at the trees he picked one with a low lying branch and with all his power he jumped for the branch reaching with his paws. He missed it by inches and landed heavily, harder then he thought. After shaking out his back legs he crouched ready to jump again.

User Image Dakarai had decided to go for a hike this day, further inland then he usually decided to venture. The shore was beautiful yes, with its rocky cliffs and tide pools teeming with life, but he also yearned for the endless grass plains they'd wandered when he was a child.

As far as he could see, only trees dotted the landscape. Or at least, that's what he saw for much of his hike. Rounding the end of a rock outcropping that had offered shade from the sun, the red lion blinked as he caught sight of another lion falling away from a tree.

Huh. Was there prey in the tree?

Curious as always, Rai wandered closer, taking care to circle at a respectable distance. Some lions were quite territorial about meals and space in general and he was far from a fighter. A story teller, an adventurer, yes, but a warrior? No.

"Afternoon, friend! After something?" Unable to pick up the scent of prey - wounded or otherwise, he was rather confused. Lions didn't climb trees after all.

((sorry finals are in a week and i have been killed by homework))

Ary froze when someone started to talk, it took a moment for the words to sink in and he relaxed it was not someone who was looking for a fight. He turned to find a large red lion standing a distance away. "After something?" he repeated stupidly, right before a spark of inspiration caused him to add "Why I'm trying to see if the rumor is true." He smiled and internally laughed, returning to childhood is not that hard he thought as he sized up the other lion. Doesn't look like he wants a fight or even like he really ever fights, tho he could just sit on someone and that would 'squish' any thoughts of hurting someone. he thought, and not in a mean way either. The wind tugged at mane and made the leaves dance while Aryaisha waited to see if the new comer would take his bait and for once in a long time he could spin a wild tale that will hopefully have both lions laughing so hard that there sides start to hurt.

Dakarai was not, by any stretch of the imagination, anything approaching fat. A big lion in build, yes, and more of a cuddly huge teddy bear then one who would fight by sitting on something.

Coming forward, the lion tilted his head to the side, "What rumour?" As a member of a pride that enjoyed stories, rumour were wonderful seeds around which to spin a tale. If this rumour proved interesting... he might chase it to see how far it had spread, and how much of it was true.

User ImageAryaisha had to think, he wanted to make up a rumor that was so outrageous that this new lion would understand it was a joke because while Ary didn't mind getting into scuffles he liked making friends better. "My mom taught me better manners than what I am currently displaying. My name is Aryaisha but most call me Ary. And as to the rumor I hear some ware that if you climb high enought that one can touch the sky." Ary kept his face stright for a few moments before he just couldnt help it, he started to laugh. "Sorry.... sorry.... I'm just playing around.... there was no rumor I was just trying to climb a tree and failed miserably." He sat there laughing silently waiting to see what the red lion would do.

((skie i did not mean to even hint that he was fat, what i ment was that he was big enough to stop any unwanted fighing just by his size. i'm sorry that you saw it that way but really i didn't mean it like that. also sorry about the major delay in the response as school decidend to kick me in the shins. oh and working on a thin post thingy.))

He blinked, "You're trying to reach the sky? Why not climb a mountain instead of a tree? You'll get much closer that way..." The red male then paused as the other made a joke of it and laughed softly, a little sheepish. "Oh... I see. You did better then I could, I think. I've never climbed a tree before. I thought you might have a story or two with that 'rumour' of yours." Dakarai grinned, "I collect them, I like tales of that sort - they're important to my pride."

"I haven't climbed a tree since I was a cub so I figured I would give it a go, so far all I've done is bruise my backside from falling." Aryaisha said sheepishly feeling oddly compelled to tell the truth.

"If you want a tall tale and not truth I could create one for you. When I was little, I was a master crafter of tall tales but it seems since that's whats important to your pride that maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea." He said slightly crestfallen because he had already started to spin his tale but since the other lion said that rumors and tales were important to his pride he didn't think it would be right to lie, even if the tale was a good one.

Dakarai chuckled and nodded at the other's confession, "I see. Still, you've tried and done relatively well at the very least. Maybe a shorter tree is better? Or!" The lion grinned, having thought of something, "Talk to a leopard~ I've heard the climb trees as easily as birds fly. Maybe they'll help you."

The red lion shook his head at the other's refusal to speak a story. "Tall tales all have a grain of truth within them, my friend, and it is that golden core my pride quite prizes. Every story had a value, and the more we have, the more knowledge we can share. Truth or tale, it is up to you if you want to speak." He smiled encouragingly, tossing his head as the wind picked up, enjoying the pleasant breeze.

Aryaisha thought a moment, "You know I never thought of that, a leopard would be a obvious choose as a teacher." He said right before he shifted on his haunches and had to wince as sore muscles protested, "Although I think I shall have to wait a bit before I ask for some lessons."

When the red lion said that he could tell his tall tale Ary was quite happy, he had not done something like this in a long time. "Well alright if you insist, though I feel like I must say that as far as I know it will likely be complete fiction... I think." He amended with a sheepish face as his black mane was being tugged on by the breeze.

Ary sat still for a moment, just settling his thoughts before he began. "As all stories begin... Once upon a time, long, long ago there was a lion who fell in love with a goddess. This was a time when the gods did not interact with mortals so this lion had to come up with some way of getting his love's attention, so he climbed the highest tree that he could find but it was still not tall enough. But he stayed in that tree all day beseeching his goddess to grace his life with her presence. She did not even glance in his direction. The lion did this again and again picking a higher tree each time until he ended up in the highest tree in the area." Ary paused to catch his breath before continuing, "It was while the lion was in this last tree that the goddess noticed him for the first time, but rather then see him herself she send one of her disciples to him. The disciple told the lion that he must return to that tree for a year and a day and climb to the very top before the goddess would see him. The lion worried slightly that he would not have time to eat or sleep properly but the goddess smiled on him and with one of her brother's help kept him from starving or becoming sleep deprived. So the year and the the day passed quickly for the lion and he could not wait until he finally met his goddess in the light of the full moon."

Once again Ary paused but this time to shift position and to look at the sky and the slowly lowering sun. "It was on the last day that when the lion started to climb he seemed to climb endlessly and it was not until the moon rose right above his head that he realized that he had climbed to the sky and there right next to the moon stood his goddess. She smiled at him and beckoned, the lion went to her, and in the time honored tradition of all great stories I must end this story as all tales end... And the lion and goddess lived happily ever after." Once Ary finished his tale he waited to see what the large red lion thought.

((sorry for the long post, oh and im not sure but did darkarai ever introduce himself?))
PostPosted: Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:55 pm

Dakarai listened attentively for the length of the story, nodding periodically to show his interest and when the other finished, he fumbled approvingly, "Excellent legend Aryaisha! One can only hope to find love among the stars." He glanced up at the shifting colours of the sky and smiled, "I've never met a god or a goddess before. I wonder if they're as great and supreme as all the stories say."

Then he blinked and flicked an ear, realizing he hadn't introduced himself, "I'm sorry! I'm Dakarai. I completely forgot to introduce myself."

"Yes finding love among the stars would be a great thing." Aryaisha said, only briefly thinking of actually finding love. So far he has only enjoyed the company of a few females but to him it never felt like love just like, at least for him. "To meet a god or goddess would defiantly be a tale to tell, and even if they arn't I would think it would be best to treat them politely after all they are gods." He smiled.

"Oh its quite alright Dakarai and it's a pleasure to meet you." Ary said as he kept an eye on the sky. The day was lengthening and he still had a ways to go, "Well I would love to stay longer but I still have a trip ahead of me." He pause a moment, "Do you have any suggestions as to where to head?" there was no particular place he was heading but he did have wandering feat so he love to be moving almost continuously.

"It would - that's one tale I would like to experience first hand." He chuckled and shrugged, "Oh of course I'd be polite but at the same time... they should be polite to us, right? That's only being pleasant." Nodding, the lion blinked as Ary continued and turned to scan the horizons thoughtfully.

"If you go back the way I came, my pride is that way. There are many more stories there, and it is along the edge of the sea too, very pretty. Otherwise just pick a direction you feel most tugs at your heart? That's what I did and look at where I am! I'm having a great conversation with a stranger when I didn't expect to run into anybody." Smiling, he gestured with one paw and tilted his head as if to say 'get going~'. "It was a pleasure to meet you and good luck, Ary!"

Aryaisha smiled "Your homelands sound great and maybe I might head that way. The sun and moon are my constant companions but your right meeting others is the best part of being a wanderer, that and seeing the world." He thought a moment then with a smile and a wave he headed off. He only paused to say, "It was nice to meet you Dakarai and one day I will have to meet you again, just to share stores. And good luck to you as well." before turning back around and heading off in a random direction. Even his sore backside dint detract from his enjoyment of the day, what wasn't to enjoy; he had just met a great lion, it was a good day, and there was a breeze to cool him on his journey.
