Move: HitHe had spent what felt like an eternity searching the savanna for the deserts and the pride that dwelt within. The desert had been harsh and his temper wearing thin by the time he had come across what he was looking for. One of the lions belonging to the pride had stopped him on what he assumed was the territory border. That had in a way been expected. What hadn't been was finding one he had seen vaguely in visions. He was not sure who the gold striped lion was only that he must have some relation to the family that he'd been searching for.
Their conversation had been short, his own temper wearing thin, and it had come out he would have to fight his way into the pride. He should have expected as much from a group of warriors. Not wanting to spend more time in the oppressive heat than he had to he wasted no time in lunging at the other lion.
He put his whole weight behind his attack intending to take the other to the ground as quick as he could. He was slightly stockier was betting on weighing more than the other male.

First Move: Miss Given that Jiryan hadn't been raised as a Firekin, he found that he wasn't as given to the need to fight as the majority of the members. Still, he knew the rules plain and clear, and he knew what was expected of him if a rogue was found wandering around. That's why he was here, ready and waiting for this battle commence, to test him, or whatever it was that he was really supposed to be doing with this. He could tell the male was large - part firekin, perhaps, given his size - and had the advantage in stockiness, though from what Ji could see, he figured he prevailed in the height area. That could be a disadvantage for him if this male used his bulk to his advantage.
As it was with him usually, he spent far too long calculating, and almost missed the male's sudden shift in position entirely as he moved to charge forward. Without the time to brace for the blow, or try to to get away, he felt the other male connect with him hard enough to nearly knock the wind from his chest and sending him skidding back a few feet through the sand. It was nearly all he could do to remain upright. With a grunt, he swept out with one long arm in an attempt to knock him hard across the jaw in a counter blow - but he knew even before he had completed the motion halfway that he was likely going to miss, given how sloppy his actions were as he tried to recover from the blow he'd been dealt.

Move: Bide
He felt a bit of satisfaction in connecting with the other male but he had not been able to over power him quickly like he'd hoped. The red and gold male's height gave him an advantage that he hadn't calculated right and he would have to correct that oversight or just figure out a way to get around it.
Ducking from a badly aimed blow he backed up a step to figure out what is next move would be. The other male was obviously trained even if not all that well and it was going to take more than just brute strength to take him on.

Second Move: Hit
Less thinking, more action! He could almost hear Kenna screaming it inside his head, his constant demon. If she had been here to witness that little screw up he'd never have lived it down.
Taking the cue from his own thoughts, he pushed away any analysis of the situation and went with his own instincts. As soon as the male fell back to think about how to come at him next, Jiryan pushed forward, trying to impede on the time the male had to gather his wits and find how to come at him. With a small sneer stretching over his mug, he put all his force into the attack, aiming to connect a hard blow against his neck.

Move: Bide
His own thoughts distracted him from noticing the blow coming his way until it was too late. Curling his head over he managed to take most of it on the shoulder, back paws sliding almost out from under him from the force. Growling he dug his claws into the sand and pulled back again.
The other male either was better than he thought or he was thinking too much. Shaking his head he snarled at the other male as he circled around to the side of him. The sand was too loose where he was standing and he would never get footing to attack from there.

Third Move: Hit
He turned slightly with the male as he began to circle him, readying himself for an attack that never came. He didn't take the time to question why the male wasn't coming at him, sparing only a few seconds of thought for the query before he made up his mind to move in for another blow. He wouldn't let the rogue best him, no matter that he thought he wasn't here to cause any harm. He might have been cautious with Kenna, but he knew Kenna wouldn't hurt him, or his cubs, this rogue he didn't know at all.
With a small growl rumbling in his throat, a clear answer to the snarl on the rogue's mug, he closed the space between them again. Since the male was slightly at angle to him where he'd been circling around Ji, he aimed instead for his side with this blow, down a little in an attempt to rake at his underbelly, knowing he wouldn't be able to attack him head on.

Move: Miss
He saw the other coming at him again this time and braced himself to try to counter the blow this time. He would not go down this easily. He had to find out the answers he wanted and it if meant cutting down the other male he would.
His ego was a bit bigger than his skill this time though. The other male's attack jarred his bones for a moment and caused his own strike to falter and miss it's mark.

Fourth Move: Miss
By this point, Jiryan's own ego was probably starting to grow a little engorged. Having been leading the fight down a path that was almost ensuring his success, he was perhaps starting to think too little about his actions and relying only upon his brute strength. Thus, just as the male before him attempted to attack, Ji charged in again to do so as well - resulting in his own miss.
Still, with both males pushing forward with the weight behind their bodies, there was little room left for them to go, even when they were incapable of landing their blows. With a growl, Ji found himself unable to do anything but rear up, unless he wanted to try running the male down and who knew where that would lead. It was no surprise to him that the force of both their bodies found them in a head-on tangle of limbs and reared bodies. What a mess.

Move: Miss
Refusing to let the other male truly get a height advantage above him he met his paw for paw. Nothing was going to work like this, they were too close for blows to be effective and there were too many paws in the way for teeth to get anything substantial.
Lowering himself slightly he used his legs to push at the other male's chest and after a moment managed to take both of them to the sand. He hadn't worked an advantage for himself, not with the way they were tangled, but this was better than having the other towering over him.

Fifth Move: Miss
He might have been able to overpower him eventually with his height, but the struggle from standing on his hind legs and battling for some kind of advantage with claws and teeth in such a futile position was a quickly energy wearing activity. He admitted he was surprised as he felt his legs go out from beneath him, one paw sweeping out in one last attempt to land a blow even as he went down. He knew he missed as his side connected with sand a flurry of dust flew up around him.
"Ughn," he grunted, shaking his head and pushing himself up awkwardly. "Truce, truce," he called quickly, before the other male could push himself up and attack again while he was down. His energy was being drained from this quickly, he knew there would be no winner in the end and he wanted to stop before he went home to Kenna ragged and sore. She might be proud of him for it, but he didn't see the sense of letting himself get beat to a pulp.

Shaking the sand out of his face and hopefuly a bit from his mane he stepped back from the other. His breathing was heavy as he tried to settle himself. The gold and red male was right, no one was going to win until they'd completely worn each other out and that was not worth it.
"Have i proved myself to you then?" he just managed not to snarl his words. He would obviously have to work on things if he was going to keep up with the blood that he had.

He nodded slowly at the male as he pushed himself up slowly to his feet, taking a moment to shake the sand out of his fur and mane. Kenna would have a fit over him being so dirty when he got back, he was sure. He probably in for a long cleaning if it was up to her.
"Indeed," he murmured, though he seemed relatively calm about being almost-bested by the rogue, but that was perhaps because he recognized that they were on equal footing. The male was probably a halfblood, no different than Ji himself. He wasn't as arrogant as some of the Firekin themselves. "Alright then, follow me, I'll show you to who you need to see," he nodded at the male and jerked his head in the direction of the pride, turning to begin to lead him the way.

He followed after the other male but didn't drop his guard completely. There was no guarantee that something else would not happen not with how quick the fight had broken out.
"I have a question for you .... do you know a male named Vulcan?" that was the only name he knew to ask anyone for. If not ... he would have to search once he was able to wander the pride lands.

Jiryan was sure not to let his own guard down, though he was aware that the tension between them was only because he was bound by pride rules to start the battle. Still, he didn't trust the rogue because he didn't know him, and having to be the one to lead meant he couldn't keep his eyes on him. His body was tense, to say the least, and as he stalked along ahead of him he was almost counting the steps it would take to dump the male off.
What he hadn't been expecting was for the male to drop his father's name.
Jiryan stopped instantly, turning to look back at him, silent for a few long moments. He drew himself up, narrowing his bright, almost acid-like eyes on the brighter figure before him. Why would he know his father? His first instinct was to wonder if they were related. A half-blood firekin, and now that he thought about it, the colors of his coat were very similar to his son's. "That's my father," he said, the tone of his voice calm, though his eyes had narrowed a fraction from his wondering. "He's not here, though, at least not yet." Was that why the male had come? He'd come looking for his father as well, following his sister's vision blindly.

"I suppose ... that would make me half your uncle." He had not expected to find such a close relation so soon but she shoudl ahve expected so. His visions had only ever led him to those he shared blood with. "Vulcan is my half brother and i had hoped to find him here"
From the others words though he would not be so lucky. It seemed as if Vulcan had not made it this far yet. Time would tell if he would ever meet the half brother his mother had told him about.
