The weather was, quite frankly, rather dreary. It mattered little, though, they were headed home. Willis had thought long and hard on the matter and had finally put in for a full month's vacation time. Aria was not yet suited to watch over Sera while he worked, and he had more than enough time saved up over the years to earn him a month with pay.

Beside him the small Proto floated, long jacket wrapped tightly around her thin form. Her lack of shoulders made it difficult to keep the jacket up and she was forced to wind her strange arms tightly around herself. She moved with her head tilted back, watching with those wide eyes as the sky darkened and the stars began to wink into existence. She liked looking at the stars, Willis had noticed.

Sera had skipped ahead of them, pausing at the gateways to a rather familiar park. She looked inside, hoping to maybe see Elst sunbathing like a bush the way he had been when she'd first met him. No such luck, though... the park was empty as far as she could see. Sera turned around, cupping her small hands around her mouth to call to her father. "Daddy! Can we play at the park!"

"No, Sera. It's getting far too late." It was nearly her bedtime, actually.

There we go. There we gooo. Let the games begin.

The rather massive figure -2 metres ten, a tree of a man- had kept in the shallows of the shade, the few blotches of deeper darkness there were on a day like this, for a long time, observing, sniffing out the environment. Things had changed a lot.

Rugovin hadn't looked like anything worth more concern then a bored, moping youth in his getup, sulking the day away hidden under his blacck hood. Appearances deceived though. When Willis and his small companions approached, passed, his look-on-zero intensified, focused on them stealthily. Something in him had stirred, and he knew it was that slightly suspicious form step-hovering right there that had set him off. His pale eyes almost shone in the dark, like Aria's creamy markings, his look hard.

A moment after his first observation, he was gone. No longer at the spot he'd occupied for hours and hours, he'd already moved away, surprisingly fast and quiet for a person on his size. He couldn't keep a bush from ruslting when he passed through, but that could've been the wind.
The heavenly child, hmm.

While he repositioned himself, he got a better idea of who these people were. Nobody followed them, nobody watched them. Exquisite. Aaaah... hello there, brethren of mine. So defenseless. It as almost pathetic. Almost.

Silly girls running ahead, tsk tsk. You should know that's dangerous, lass, someone might just... come and get ahead-runners.

And someone means me. How about I teach you this lesson?

Not hesitating for a moment longer, Rugovin kicked himself into a dash again. Two seconds was all it took. Out of the park onto the pavement, his hands around her, lift her up -how little she weighed, he'd almost tossed her over his head- and retreat. Sera was no burden on him, laid over his shoulder and held there with a firm, but not aggressive pressure. He didn't intend to hurt her. No matter how hard she's retaliate, he knew she couldn't escap from his grip, and he ran deeper into the park in an almost lazy-looking jog. Sucks that he still moved very fast.

"Hello there." he 'greeted' his temporary hostage, sounding rather dry. His voice was a little hoarse, maybe from using it too little? Its base tones were oily and smooth though, less rugged and raw then you'd expect from a man like him.

There was no in between, no moment of pause. As soon as that tall, dark figure had appeared at a run headed for his daughter Willis was charging forward at full tilt. "DON'T YOU TOUCH HER!" The sound coming from his throat was raw and full of such ferocity anyone who knew the calm, gentle man would have been frightened by the sudden change.

Fear and rage combined and erupted in white hot intensity behind his eyes as the stranger lifted Sera up and slung her over his shoulder. The look of surprise and confusion, and then fear on her face as she instinctively clung to her kidnapper so she wouldn't fall or be harmed made his heart feel as though it would burst. Willis' hands clenched into fists as he tore off after the stranger, half thought out scenes of violence playing out in his mind - Aria was completely pushed out of his mind. She'd either follow or be left behind. He saved his breath, yelling wouldn't help anything, and simply charged forward.

But the tiny Proto wasn't left behind. Far from it. Some kind of internal alarm had blared loud and clear within the new Essentic. Something was familiar about the creature that had taken Sera. She gave out a strange, unearthly yowl and shot after Willis. Soon she was ahead of him, leading the way like a hound.

"Daddy! DADDY!" The child's screams reached a shattering level of sound, turning from a simple cry to a panicked shriek of terror. She kicked and beat her hands against the stranger, squirming this way and that.

"Hush."

... nice try, dude. The writhing and squirming Rugovin hardly minded, Sera might as well have been struggling against steel bars ribboned around her, but that.... noise, that godawful noise she made. Calm down for Isis' sake, I'm not going to hurt you. That single sound he made probably didn't even reach her, that half-hearted, awkward shush.

For the uptenth time that day, Vin pondered why exactly he was doing this as he barged on, thud thud thud, heavy footfalls taking the most efficient path through the park. That strange, inhuman wail coming from behind him made him shrug off the doubts though.

Cooome, kitty kitty.

The father's reaction had been more ferocious then he'd expected, but he honestly had no incident to compare with. Maybe they all were this fierce when it came to their young? The man would most likely skin him alive if he ever got his hands on him. If. But no matter now.

Rugovin kept on going, undoubtedly in a much better shape then the mid-thirtier. If he headed on like this, he might be able to lure Aria further away from him, a fast young critter she was. Hah, the joys of floating hmm? Would she miss that once she grew up?

On and on, over the damp grass, skirting benches and shrubberies, in a nearly straight line, ignoring all marked paths. At one point he even took a shortcut through an inactivated spring, sending a shower of water up around him when he plowed through. Whoops, now we're wet. Nah, she'd live... Nobody ever died from being a little soaked, no matter how chilly the water.

Sera was sobbing hysterically now, too distracted with her terror to continue her ineffective thrashing. Instead she simply cried, occasionally managing to hiccup out a desperate "Daddy!" or "'Ria!"

Willis was, by now, puffing raggedly for breath. His lungs burned but he kept on, gritting his teeth and speeding up when he saw the man splash through a fountain, hoping it'd slow him down even a little bit. Just enough to get his daughter back.

Aria was just reaching the peek of her momentum though. Now it was Willis who was left behind as the Proto skimmed effortlessly over the water, eyes locked on the child. Her goal. This was her life. Sera was her reason.

Her purpose.

With a snarl that seemed strange coming from the small, ethereal creature Aria shot forward, reaching out with those impossibly versatile silk-clad arms. A few moments more and she was practically underfoot of Sera's tormentor, reaching out to wrap a lithe silk sleeve around his arm. She intended to stop him without tripping him up... it might bring Sera harm.

"You will release Sera. Now!"

With all of the tiny Proto's strength she hauled back, wrapping the second sleeve about his waist, hoping to stop or slow him down.

Ohoho, feisty one. No fear, no second thoughts, even a sense of tactics.

No sense of the common though. I'm almost four times your size and most likely double that your weight. Learn your physics, lass, just like I had to.

Aria's touch incensed him, alerted him, but he hardly slowed down when she whirled around him and latched on. But she was here now, good.

"Oh no I won't, not yet missy."

Rugovin's taunt sounded harshly playful, a little venomous, and instead of slowing down, he just tugged the Proto onward, further and further away from her owner. Beyond the spring, he swerved aside, deviating from his straight path, and hurled himself into a network of brush and trees. Keeping Sera safely over his shoulder with one arm, he laid his other hand on Aria's sleeve to yank her along. At least it wasn't too hard to use his body mass to not have them get battered by twigs too much.

A minute after, they emerged on another side of the tuft. It'd be hard for Willis to find their path easily.

On and on he thundered, until he suddenly slowed, keeping a kee eye on the floating lady he'd so crudely tugged with him. Hard to say what she'd do now that they were slowing... and... stood.

Don't eat my face now.
