It was a couple of days after the incident at the lake that Veyes started to realize that life was not going to be easy for awhile. People looked at him funny now. And those in the kitchen seemed less pleasant towards him. He still worked in the meat locker then afterwards the latrines but people were not nearly as friendly. Or at least he didn't think they were; the candidates certainly were the group to avoid.

He didn't like the way they looked at him now and was certain that if they had the opportunity, he'd be in a deeper mess than he was in now. So he had to watch his back because he really didn't want to get into a fight but there were the stupid ones that would find an excuse.

So in order to avoid the masses he found times to take cat naps sometimes in the back of meat locker if he cut things up quickly. He went back to slinking around and avoiding public places. It was safer not to eat with the others. And he especially avoided being seen by Conomor. Fortunately, that part wasn't a problem. The boy was always in other places even before this mess had happened.

For the most part, he had avoided trouble but sometimes it came anyway. Because the latrine work wasn't always alone. considering how many had been given the job. One kid tried to shove his head in the waste bowl and banged his head upon the edge instead as he caught himself. He left the boy sorry when he grabbed the edge of the bowl and kicked back at the kid. No...he wasn't going to be the one to fall to these low lifes, who complained more about the work than he ever had.

He rarely spoke now, no reason to. Just like when he first arrived - he didn't have any friends here. Probably never did. Of course, that was wrong he still had one person, he thought as a friend - L'thor.

It was after that incident that he felt particularly dirty and just a little more alienated from the Weyr. In many ways, he wondered how long it would be before people forgot as people do or at least until someone else did something worse. Not that he really thought what he did was that bad. Seriously, he only took wine from the kitchen. Everyone took stuff from the Kitchen! It wasn't like he went into the wine cellar! He didn't throw someone off a cliff, or into the line of thread! Although at times, he felt like they thought he was as dark of criminal.

So he slipped down the hall and slouched like a drudge just a bit to keep the people he passed from looking at him too deeply. By the time he got back to his dorm space, he found that someone had crapped on his cot and smeared it on his curtains. so in the end he was down at the laundry cleaning up those things as best he could. He guessed it was their way of telling him how much they loathed him. He grit his teeth as he yanked the sheets off the cot and pulled down the curtains.

They wouldn't have his tears even if they made his life miserable. He'd loathe them just as much and it might hearten him just a little but it did nothing for his cause as he put the sheets and curtains up to dry. That Dragon rider, Z'nal was the root of all evil...inside he have loved to have wished the man ill but instead he very much hoped one day Karma would come back on the b*****d. Of course, he was a blasted rider...nothing would happen to him. Veyes shook his head and roughly pushed his own bitter thoughts aside. I won't end up like that man...I won't be like my father. he thought to himself even though the temptation was great and his heart felt weary.

After several hours and the night coming on, he knew he would miss dinner...not that going to the kitchen would do him any good but at least his curtains and sheets were clean. The Kitchen didn't want him around...He was a "theif" and thus labeled bad news. So he decided to go hungry and put his curtains back up then fix his cot. Somehow he now had to wash up to rid himself of the horrid smell that had come somewhere between the meatlocker, latrine and laundry. Maybe he should have taken a dip in the laundry pool...

A frown crossed his face as he grabbed up his washing supplies. He could have taken a bath in the dorm bath but seriously he feared the worse from the other boys and just for a few short minutes he didn't want to have to watch over his shoulder. So instead he slipped upstairs and took careful routes across to the hall that lead to L'thor's weyr. When he finally arrived he slipped inside but didn't see L'thor...but he could tell Raith was around but he didn't want to disturb her so instead, he quietly slipped into the bathroom and sighed with a deflated feeling that helped him realize how sore he was.

His head hurt still and his muscles ached as he slowly dragged off his dirty clothes and tossed them close by. Maybe he could wash them here after he bathed? Maybe he'd get a cat nap here in the tub? He dunked his head and washed the blood off the cut on his scalp then settled trying not to make any sounds as he rubbed sand over himself and was thankful for one place that he wouldn't be found.

L'thor was at dinner, quite enjoying the meal, and enjoying feeding his flitts. Watching River swoop around and steal morsels from other people, too. In the back of his mind his was concerned about Veyes and Ren, but a mind couldn't be worried all the time. He was really quite relaxed, and lingered over wine and chat. Dusk and Rust however were growing sleepy, and abandoned him to find sleep.

*****

They appeared in the weyr together, and Dusk announced their presence to Raith with a trill before flitting over to L'thor's bed and curling up to sleep. Rust soon joined him. As they dozed off however, Raith awoke. Something was not quite right. Getting to her feet and stretching, the green stepped inside the weyr. She could not go beyond the stone couches, the cavern became too small for her to feel comfortable, but she could tell someone who was not Hers or Xerrineth's was in here... Faintly, very faintly, she thought she could smell blood. She recognized the scent of the person too now she thought about it. He was in the bathing room...

She let out a soft rumble of greeting and extended her head as close to the bathing room as she could. "Hello little friend," she said into the young human's mind, recalling more or less who he was, but not his name. "Are you alright?" Privately, she nudged her rider's mind; his long-haired friend was here, and something was wrong with him.

*****

Down in the dining hall, L'thor started up. Veyes? OhShardIt! Not even pausing to down the last of his wine, he extracted himself from the company of his friends and hurried out of the hall. Once he was out of sight, he broke into a dead run.

Veyes eyes had closed even though his scalp burned from him cleaning up the cut with soap sands. It hurt like hell and he probably should have cleaned it earlier but...with all that had happened, he just felt to sore to care. But, he knew his mother would be angry if he didn't keep the wound clean so now he tried to be diligent but in the end he just wanted somewhere to hide and sleep.

As he started to nod off, the soft rumble nudged him from the dream world he was drifting towards. It could have been anything but his eyes opened slowly...the gentle voice in his head. "Mother?" he answered, then realized his mother couldn't be here. No...someone else. Turning his head he sought out the voice then saw the large eye peering into the bath. It took him a moment but then he smiles sadly, "Hi Raith. It's just me...Veyes."

He leaned over the bath so his face could lay upon the cool stone trying to cover the wound on his head with a hand so she couldn't see it, "I'll be alright Raith. It's...well...it's...not been good for me lately. I'm not very well liked around the Weyr anymore. I don't want to worry L'thor about me. I can take it. He's got a lot of other things on his mind. I don't want to bother him. I...I...just needed a place to hide...and clean up." If it were possible he would have wished for a hug from her...she was the most friendly voice he had heard since that night. It was nice to hear the word, "friend" from someone.

Raith rumbled softly, settling herself down in the unaccustomed spot as comfortably as she could. What had happened to Veyes then? She was utterly bemused; dragons only ever hurt one another by accident. Violence against one another, or against humans, was unknown to them... but... Raith twitched her tail and shuffled her wings. Violence did happen. She was aware that humans weren't like dragons so... so he needed a place to hide because people were harming him. Why? Knowing that violence did happen didn't tell her why.

"Mine is already coming Veyes," she told him after a moment, "I could not keep your presence from him. He would have been hurt if I had."

Almost the moment she finished speaking, L'thor burst into the weyr and stared about with wild eyes, his breath coming in deep gasps. It was quite a distance from the dining hall to here, and a very great distance to sprint. "Veyes?" he called, struggling to get enough breath to speak again. "Where are you? Are you hurt?" He should have been keeping a more careful eye on him after Ren had come to him. Shards! He couldn't believe the candidate master was allowing potentials to be harmed! That went against everything that was his duty. He should be protecting them; allowing them to come to harm was not only inhuman, it was foolish. What if a boy or girl was so badly hurt they were unable to attend a hatching, and a dragon went between, unable to find Theirs. That b*****d would be getting it in the teeth if he had anything to do with it... Veyes wasn't in sight. He had to be in the bathing room.

Still panting from his frantic dash, L'thor moved close enough to assure himself that Veyes was in there, and that if he was hurt, his injuries weren't severe enough to cause permanent harm. Probably. He should have kept a closer watch on him. Shard it. Shard it all.

Veyes sighed a little when he heard that. It probably would have been better to get up out of the bath and be on his way but well, her head kind of blocked the way just a bit and even if he had, L'thor probably would have been angry if he just left.

He could hear the rider running in the weyr and calling his name but even as he thought to call back out to him the man was already in the bathroom looking at him in the pool of water. "It's just a head cut, L'thor. I'll be ok." he answered the question even before the man started looking him over urgently. He didn't want to trouble L'thor anymore than he had to; especially since he knew L'thor's temper all too well. Maybe he won't ask too many questions, he thought but somehow he knew that L'thor wouldn't just let him off with out telling him what was going on.

He didn't get out of the tub right away, preferring the warm heat over his aches and pains but he had to hope that the boy that tried to shove him into the toilet would be suffering just as much.

L'thor gave a sigh of relief and dropped to the ground, leaning back against the wall. "Thank goodness, I thought something awful had happened to you." As he got his breath back, Raith gave an apologetic rumble for worrying him and withdrew to her couch to sleep. Whatever came of this conversation, she would discuss with Her later. For now she felt she should leave the humans to talk in peace.

"I take it the other candidates aren't being too kind to you either," L'thor went on eventually. "I should have guessed it; I had Ren up here with a few grazes the day after the feast." What could he have done differently? Not a whole lot really; he couldn't guard Veyes or Ren day and night after all. Perhaps he should have hunted Veyes down for a show of solidarity though. Still, he was here now at least.

"I wish I could say it'll be over soon," he said quietly, rubbing distractedly at his ribs where an ache had started up; that one that had broken or cracked still bothered him slightly from time to time. "I can't though. I don't know how long it will do on but," he gave Veyes a slight smile, "it won't be forever. I just hope that you're not too miserable between now and whenever everyone finally forgets."

Veyes nodded as his head rested on the edge of the pool. "No...they aren't. But there is nothing I can do about it so I just will live with their abuse. I can take it. I've had worse at home. These kids don't hold a candle to my father." He internally laughed because it was rather true. They couldn't compare to his father's fist...or belt. And he could win these fights if he wanted - with his father he never won.

"Mmm...watch over Ren and don't worry about me L'thor. Ren is soft, needs someone and I'm sure he isn't deserving of this." he knew that to be true and wished that Z'nal had just kicked him out. At least, Ren wouldn't have been suffering and Con could be a "good boy" again.

He watched L'thor rub his ribs and felt badly that L'thor still felt pain over the injuries from his father's hands. He felt even worse that the man had brought him here because he felt like he had failed him. "L'thor, I made a mistake and I get to pay a price that won't ever be over as long as I am here. I feel like I failed you....and well myself. I didn't think after the hatching...I just wanted to be alone." he paused with a small sigh never quite looking up.

"Z'nal wanted to make us an example and give us up for a lynching...even innocents. I don't...respect him or the example he shows candidates. He wants us to act as a wing but it won't happen. Most of the candidates don't even know how to do an honest days work." he glanced up briefly and dragged the towel over starting to feel prune-like in the pool.

"And I ended up losing a good friend over two wine skins. That feels far worse than any abuse these other hateful kids can throw at me." he traced his fingers along the edge of the pool trying to keep himself from having any bought of tears. He cried enough about this the first night. He wouldn't let himself cry again.

"I'll only be here 5 turns then I can move on...It's not as long as a life time. My mother always told me when one door closes another opens. I just need to find the new door...and then something will change...maybe I can find happiness." he responded with a faint smile upon his lips.

L'thor gave him a slightly sharp look. "I'll worry about whoever I please, thank you do much Veyes." He softened after a moment and shook his head with a smile. "I will look out for Ren though; I'll do my best to keep an eye on all of you who were down there... You, Ren, Conomor... Mal and Firyal?" Yes, that was right. None of them deserved to be brutalized, no matter how daft some of them had been. It was sad to see normally decent candidates turn into bullies, but he was more angry with the candidate master than with the candidates themselves. This had been set up, or so it looked to him. The bluerider wanted not only to punish them himself, but to have others punish them as an added bonus.

"You did make a mistake," L'thor went on with a nod; no sense pretending otherwise after all. "It will be over eventually though," he went on with a slight grin, "don't be over dramatic... the present will be difficult, even if I can get something done about how the other candidates are treating all of you, but in the end it will be forgotten by all but the greatest of grudge bearers... I'm sorry you're not friends with whoever it was anymore. These things do happen though; goodness knows I've lost friends over stupid things before." He suspected it had been Conomor; one for the rules he was. What Veyes had done would no doubt have enraged him beyond belief. L'thor was given to taking a more relaxed view of things. It had been stupid, it had been wrong, but the punishment did not seem in proportion to the crime... Theft was of course a terrible crime but... Perhaps he was just being soft on it because he liked Veyes.

Sighing, L'thor caught Rust as he fluttered into the bathing room. "This is Rust," he said, tickling the flitt's head, "River flew a green, and I ended up with him. I meant him for Kain, but he wasn't around when the egg hatched, so now I have three flitts to take care of." Still fussing over the young firelizard, who was hiding in his shirt from the stranger, L'thor gave Veyes another smile. "I wouldn't say the door is closed by any means; dragons don't care what you've done in the past." He wished the boy hadn't been so daft, but there was no changing it. He certainly wouldn't go stealing anything ever again; the lesson was being very painfully learned.

Veyes nodded not liking the sharper look on L'thor's face. It made him a bit uncomfortable but then the looked softened and he relaxed and pulled himself out of the pool into the towel to sit just at the edge of the water. "Yeah...that was the lot of us. Mal and Ren had just shown up. Well, actually, everyone had just shown up. I mean, Con hadn't even been there 10 minutes...Firyal less than 5. I just got introduced to Mal when Ren popped over the hill. He had just said high when Z'nal showed up." That still confused him greatly but he didn't have any means to prove that something else could have been going on. No...he wouldn't take anything ever again. Although he doubted seriously he'd drink wine ever again either. The thought of the stuff left a painful memory that he'd rather never look at again.

"Yeah... I guess it will be." he said as he grabbed his clothes. He didn't want to be over dramatic. He knew someone else will do something stupid at some point. But really, he didn't want another person to be victimized like the 5 of them had been. What bothered him the most was that the Candidate Master taught the candidates that abuse was ok and the Weyr obviously was ok with that as well. Veyes imagined if the Candidate Master ever did this to another group, he'd refuse to partake in the cruel treatment, maybe he'd even point out what the Candidate Master was trying to accomplish. He could see himself standing up against the man and putting the a** in his place. But really, this was his imagination talking and reality was - he wasn't sure if he'd stand up like that but he wouldn't beat on someone just for the Candidate Master's pleasure.

Distracted as he was by the thoughts in his head, he almost didn't see the new flit, however, once he did, a smile formed on the edge of his lips. "You're a new daddy again. Soon you're not going to have room for a roommate. Mr. Flit Herder." He had to tease L'thor because it was beginning to look like that. Veyes vacillated between wanting a flit and not. So many people had them but in his case right now, it almost seemed better that he was alone. He really didn't feel good enough for a flit...or a dragon for that matter...or himself.

"I suppose...but well, ah...if it doesn't happen. Then, I haven't set myself up to be miserable. Right? I got all hopeful in the hatching and felt awful afterwards. I wasn't prepared. But this time, I know I will do better and if it doesn't happen, I'll go to my room for the night...I don't like the crowds too much. But if Firyal, Ren or...Co..." he paused and looked down as he slipped his clothes on. Well now, he really wouldn't need to be at the hatching feast if Conomor impressed. His happiness for Con probably would be best kept to himself than in spoken words. It was probably better that way.

"Hey L'thor, since you have a new flit...when do you want to get together to show me how to make the riding straps?" glancing up as he strapped on his belt. It was better to change that subject than to wallow over the past. He had to get over himself...refocus...get on the path again or find a new one.
PostPosted: Thu May 07, 2009 9:52 am

L'thor got to his feet again and stepped out of the bathing room, glad of the cooler air of the main weyr. At least Veyes wasn't just moping; he'd never had much patience for moping. Wasn't just moping. Still, he supposed he'd be miserable in Veyes' place... Give him a few days, and if he didn't buck up then he'd think of some way to make him buck up. "Rust is no trouble, you can still come up when you and I both have time... Although," he frowned thoughtfully, "I can see you having less free time to do it in. I imagine you'll have longer duty hours as well as less pleasant ones."

That was only fair; he did rather approve of the lake-party having to clean out the latrines; it was the violence against them that bothered him. In truth, he would rather it was just the ones who had actually stolen that were punished, but he could see how punishing the whole group made sense... Yes, thinking on it harder actually it was for the best; get them to learn to watch their comrades. When one person in a wing was disgraced, everyone in that wing felt it. A nasty lesson perhaps, but a damn good one. The violence still bothered him. He might have to see if he could discuss it with someone; injured candidates were the last thing the Weyr needed...

Veyes said that the candidates had no idea how to act like a wing. Of course they didn't. This, however, might well be the start of learning. A small of L'thor pointed out that whilst a lot of the candidates might be lazy when given the chance, they were not thieves. It was the privilege of every man and woman on Pern to grumble about their work, perhaps to slack off once in a while. It was not their privilege to take what did not belong to them. Haha. Such critical thoughts. Were they deserved? Probably; he knew that in Veyes' place he wouldn't be shooting his mouth off about laziness... Now wasn't the time to raise that though. Veyes didn't need anyone else getting on his back for the time being. If he decided it was important, he would raise the matter at a later date.

"Having a back-up plan is always good," he went on eventually with a nod, "I seem to remember you had one before this. Stick with it; don't let all this change it, or you... Yes. Sit out of hatching feasts if you will in future, but I've no doubt you'll be watched carefully so retiring for the night might be smartest thing you can do." Once a thief always a thief, some said. Not Veyes or the other one that had stolen, he thought. They had been behaving like stupid kids, but would not do so again. At least they'd better not. He had been surprised at Veyes doing it once. He didn't know how he'd feel if the boy did it again.

Veyes wouldn't take anything in the Weyr ever again; heck, he'd probably never drink wine again either. He wanted to be far away from the object that got him into this mess beyond his own dumb choices. But he wouldn't discuss that decision with L'thor, who'd probably see it as a silly kid thing but some how, Con's expression really had made that bit of life unappealing.

"Yeah, I don't have much free time anymore. But I wont' be working in the Kitchen in the future so I'm not smelling like a flit feast. They don't want me around so I'm still getting up really early to do the other jobs I'm assigned." To go from favorite to anathema in such a short time hurt a lot too. He wouldn't talk about that part or the dirty looks they gave him if he came into the dinning halls. He only grabbed what he could get from there and ate outside in the bowl far away from others.

The best part eating alone was at least his imagination still offered grand worlds and exciting places for him to explore - the adventure of a life time. It was the one place that no one could tarnish. There he felt like he would...could be someone. And...well, he wouldn't have done something as stupid as he did in the real world. Or at least in his dreams, he could have gotten away with it.

He nodded as he smoothed his hair back and started rebraiding, "Yeah, umm...maybe the traders. Seems more probable than a dragon healer now. I'm sure there are other options. I don't know if one of the craft halls would take me in. I've got 5 turns to prepare for it and that will go pretty quickly I'm guessing. I don't want to like some of the other kids I have heard talking about getting close to the end and not knowing what they want to do. I'm going to be ready to walk through the next door when the time comes." He said that part confidently because he wasn't going to be a farmer forever and he wouldn't beg to stay here.

There was still a part of him that hoped to be a dragon rider but he tempered that with reason and personal doubts. He wasn't going to let that desperate hope get to him because it led him down the road to the mess he was currently in. If he didn't, he didn't...move on...forget it - Reach for a new dream.

The small braids were coming into place quickly into place as he was hurrying just a little. Veyes felt a little badly for taking L'thor's time even though he was really attracted to him but now, that attraction felt rather tarnished in his own head. He didn't feel worthy of the man, and thankful he never expressed that interest. It would have made him feel more foolish. L'thor deserved someone much finer than himself.

A part of him considered past conversations at that moment and realized if he ever did have a dragon, the idea of a dragon rising might not be as fun of prospect. Having intense feelings from a mating flight for people like...Z'nal or some of the others just made the pit of his stomach foul. But that was one thought he'd never express verbally...ewh.

"Yeah, it's better to stay out of everyone's way and you're right, everyone watches me...so I'd rather not be underfoot. Besides, the hatching feast should be a happy time for the newly impressed. So what was your hatching feast like?" he said as he placed the last of his braids in line feeling a bit more human after the bath.
PostPosted: Thu May 07, 2009 10:51 am

L'thor wandered over to his bed and perched on the edge of it; he had always preferred a real bed to a hammock. Much easier to have fun in; hammocks did swing about so. "Ah, yes, well of course," L'thor grinned, "latrine duty never is fun. At least you can come up here to wash off though... On, next you see him, do let Ren know he's free to come up here and have a bath when he likes too." It must be easy to feel vulnerable in the candidate bathing rooms for the lake-party. Still, he was not going to extend the offer to any of the others, he was not a public convenience provider and that was for damn sure. The other three could tough it out.

"There are always options," L'thor went on, "some more attractive than others of course. I don't think you'd be able to get taken as an apprentice anywhere other than here, though. Holders don't care if you were waiting for a dragon before looking for an apprenticeship; they have plenty of applicants at a younger, more teachable age who weren't off gallivanting at a Weyr with all its loose morals and so on." He wasn't really sure if Veyes could get taken on here for that matter... Well, here at least he believe it was possible; it certainly wouldn't be anywhere else in the world.

"As to my feast..." L'thor looked over at Raith, asleep on her couch, and smiled. "Bit of a blur to be honest... food and wine was nice I think but really I was all focused on Raith. She was asking me all sorts of things, wanting more food, I was answering her and providing food... Can't remember much else of it really." He remembered that it had been incredible though. His heart had felt ready to burst with joy at finding Raith. It had been a perfect day. Utterly perfect.

Veyes followed him out of the bathroom but leaned just against the wall of the opening as the man sat on the bed. This room wasn't one that Veyes felt he should enter fully being it was the man's private space. "Thanks, I might just do that. Latrine duty is actually cleaner than butchery. I'm not covered with blood or organ slime by the end of the day and the soaps they make me use for the job keep me smelling cleaner. So I think in the grand scheme of things, it might be an upgrade." He gave the one positive spin he has found for the situation.

Of course as he listened to L'thor's words, his heart sank just a little wondering how many doors were now barred because of his stupidity. And he had more doubts than L'thor about staying on here after the 5 turns. He made a mistake that probably cost him that option and his only way to stay would be to impress; he was pretty sure of that. Well, maybe that was best to know now so he wouldn't have any false hopes.

"Mm...ah then I best not get my hopes up then for crafting, eh? Ok...Well, I'll figure out something else. I don't have to go to a Craft Hall to become good at something new." He tried to reach for the positive again not wanting to sink to deeply into the negativity that threatened him each time he felt the walls closing in. Things had to become better and a new door would open somewhere. Somehow he'd be alright with or without the Weyr.

"Sounds like a good time for you both. I'm sure the best day of your lives. She's a really great dragon. I bet it took awhile to learn to fly together." It was nice to hear about things that L'thor and Raith did because it was a glimpse into a world he only could imagine.

"Thank you, L'thor for bringing me here. Even if I don't impress, the experience has taught me a lot in such a short time. I've seen more, learned more here than I would ever have found on the farm." His heart still remembered the brief joys he had felt on arrival even if they were now marred by painful regret.

L'thor chuckled and shook his head, stroking the now sleeping Rust gently. "Don't mention it Veyes, I was glad to bring you... well," he snorted, "by the time I actually did bring you here I was glad to in any case... So, you see," he grinned broadly, "people's opinions can change quite easily, and bad feelings can be let go of. I bet some of the candidates will start to come around once they're off latrine duty." Veyes was still something of a strange contrast to him; a complete dreamer, and yet such a hard worker. The two traits seemed mutually exclusive when you thought about it, but Veyes certainly made it work.

"I wouldn't worry about crafting," he went on, "if you don't Impress, well, Traders have more fun than holders or crafters anyway... It was a good time," he went on with a nod, "it was the most incredible day I have ever experienced... I do hope that your feast will come Veyes." He hoped the next clutch came soon, too; then Veyes and the others would at last be off punishment duties from what he had gathered. Cleaner or not, he suspect Veyes would rather be butchering meat than cleaning up latrines. He knew he would.

"Yeah, I never thought of it that way." Indeed, he hadn't and maybe people's opinions were as mercurial as the wind but somehow he didn't think Conomor would be like that. Maybe some could forgive and forget but others wouldn't. "Even if they don't, I've still got my health and my dreams. But maybe some will...who knows."

He grinned a little, "They do? That's good to know. Holders are pretty dower if you ask me. I'd like my live to have a bit of zest and freedom for a change. Maybe I will fit in well with the traders." Tilting his head, his smile softened as he watched L'thor, "I hope so too, Lthor."

A swirl of color briefly played in through his mind as he wondered for a brief moment that sensation...a brown, blue, or green - he doubted a bronze would have him and a gold was impossible. "Ah, I bet my dragon would be pleased with the feasting and I hope that its thoughts would distract me from the event. Because I think I would just be happier eating with just a couple of good friends sharing that special moment than the entire Weyr."

His thoughts were wistful as he watched L'thor wondering how that world was for the man...but then reality dragged him back and he realized that he shouldn't over stay his welcome. "You know, I shouldn't stay here too long, you probably have important things to do and I take up too much of your time already. I bet I took you from dinner...I'm sorry for that."
