Obviously, first off, he's not quite so much in live with you as you are with him, seeing as A) he did it in the first place B) with a girl neither of you really know too well, and C) "Oh, by the way, I made out with a girl in a field. Second, judging by your account, if he had time to do all of that, there was quite enough time to think of you. If he didn't? Then obviously you're not very important to him. If he did, and did it anyway? Then obviously you're not very important to him.
So he is apologetic. Had panic attacks, understandable. That, to me, rings as more of an 'oh s**t' factor than anything else, as in 'oh s**t, iss da po-po,' 'iss da po-po' here being replaced with 'I'm ********' screwed now.'

I'm sorry, but after this sort of thing happens and is allowed to without repercussion, then the one in question starts to feel comfortable with it. "Oh, well, hey, even if I do get caught it won't matter. Just look what happened last time: a whole shitload of nothing!"

Now, as for your actual questions? You don't.
You don't forget it. It doesn't work like that. Unless you come into amnesia anytime soon, you're pretty much stuck with it; besides, even if you could forget about it, it'd be a pretty bad idea to do so. What you can do, however, is get over it. You won't ever forget, and you won't ever really stop being bothered by this. And there will be people who tell you to just forget about it, or just ignore the fact that it bothers you, but don't. Acknowledge it. Look at it, seriously look at it, and take it in. Feel that it bothers you, acknowledge that it bothers you, and from there, conquer it. It's going to take a long time, probably, yes. But you can do it. Whatever you do, though, don't ignore it.

Not convinced? Here's a story:
I was great friends with my ex up until a few months ago. So I asked if he'd like to hang out cause I hadn't had a chance to meet up with him for a while. At the time he was dating a lovely girl, I didn't know her too well but I had met her a few times and could tell she was a good person. At the time I wasn't with my bf but it was pretty obvious there was an attraction, how obvious? We spent half the morning talking about how I should just ask him out etc. We then went shopping so he could get his gf an anniversary present.
So we go and get a few drinks. Get drunk in the stupid igloo. ((There's an igloo shaped room in the venue we were drinking)) And the c**t makes a move on me! A very physical move. He then comes out and tells me he ********, that's right ******** some other chick on NY's and didn't tell his gf. But no that's not what upset me, his justification "I can't see myself spending my whole life with her" is what pissed me off. I told our mutual friend who as it turns out he had lied to about his first betrayal saying it was only "making out". So he told her gf - at least what he tried on me and she forgave him. So whatever. She's too good for him but she'll lower herself. And now he doesn't show his face around here any more.

All I'm saying is if you love him and want to be with him then you will. But you'll never be able to trust him, and he probably won't learn anything.
You're too good for him. And you shouldn't let yourself be used like that.
