Who
Counselors: Kaspar Faust, Asher Eaton
Campers: Calypso Nye, Daniel Kalinska, Hiryuu Santiago, Kristel VanGutkneckt, Quinby Duggary and Tyler Moorcroft
When
Around noon on a Monday; the first day of camp.
Where
The parking lot of Murmuring Pines, leading to the cabins and a possible tour around the grounds.
Weather
Hot, hot and more hot. The sky's clear with hardly any shade to speak of and the sun is at its highest point.

______

So, this was it.

After the months of preparation since he had been assigned to this place after last Summer's events had ended, Kaspar Faust would now be dealing with the children themselves.

Most of the other staff were still around, plus one or two new faces that he still hadn't gotten to know very well but he found himself to be doing pretty much everything, regardless of their numbers. Not by the fault of the other counselors, mind you, but due to Mr. Faust's own inability to slack. If he wasn't doing something, he would grab something another person was doing for himself. It was just how he was; always moving, always working, only stopping to sleep and eat.

The tall man cleared his throat, adjusting his tie. Regardless of the weather, he continued to wear long pants, a formal shirt and a tie coupled with shoes that surely weren't meant for hiking or anything outdoorsy. Along side of it, his usually hot mug of coffee in his hand was chilled; used to have shaved ice pieces in it but they had since melted. Watery coffee was better than no coffee at all.

Kaspar straightened himself so he was rigid as a plank, half lidded eyes watching as the first car pulled in. It was a very nice car, black, small and sleek and it looked as though it had a chauffeur. It's very own Jeeves or Alfred. The child who got out, however, didn't seem to fit with this theme and Kaspar found himself frowning because of it; messy hair, long jeans with some rips. The boy didn't look entirely rebellious, especially not in the face, and he did have some respect for the boy's choice in footwear (much like his own) but for one coming out of such a nice vehicle to look so unrefined was almost like they had lied to him.

"Thanks for driving me, Rob."

"I know how busy your parents are."

"Yeah. I'll see you at the end of Summer!" Daniel pulled his back pack and suitcase out of the car and closed the door, patting the window and waving. Robert Plumm was their estate's gardener and today had been one of his day's off. Originally, Daniel had called for a taxi cab but Robert refused, canceled the call and drove the fourteen-year-old up there himself.

Last Summer, it had actually been his mother to do the dropping off but now she was on a Summer cruise looking for more business associates while his father was across the country doing something similar. Their affluence was a mix of inheritance and hard work. Sometimes too hard of work.

He watched Robert drive back out of the main gates and a couple more cars neared he main road. So he wouldn't be the only one coming on the very first day, that was good news. Maybe some of them were people he would recognize because, as he noticed while walking up the sloping path towards the main lodge, this man standing to greet them was not familiar. Daniel recoiled slightly, pausing mid-step and having to collect himself before continuing. He didn't like how the man's gaze was like he was disappointed in him already.

"Name?" The call caught him off guard; it was a deep, sturdy voice that almost echoed with the mug covering his mouth and an accent that was decidedly German. How lovely a sound to his poor Polish blood.

"D-Daniel Kalinska," what wasn't a stutter nearly came out as a question but Daniel was determined not to let himself become intimidated and he straightened himself up to match the man.

"Year?"

"Second," this time his voice came out more clear, more decisive. Beneath it, though, he was feeling rather weak. Even in a white t-shirt and with holes in his jeans, the sun was beating down fiercely. The cabins were sounding like a God send right about then.

"Then welcome back," his tone didn't sound very welcoming, "You will wait here until a sizable group is formed, to which we will then begin making our way to your cabins. Is that clear, Mr. Kalinska?"

"Yes, sir..."

It was as if he weren't taking a vacation from his father at all.

Grandmum had flown in with Quinby due to her young age. At first the girl had been offended, but passing through the intimidating gates past guards and serious airport employees made her grateful that there was a friendly face to accompany her. The plane ride itself had been long and terrifying. Even the cushion of first-class seats and her grandmother's comforting words could not coax Quinby's fingers from their white-knuckled poise on the edge of her armrests. A rather nasty spot of turbulence scared Quinby for her life, and she began to pray silently as she ran to the bathroom to be sick. Needless to say, the girl was glad to be back on solid ground. Grandmum walked her to the street and hailed her a taxi, handing Quinby the money for fare and sending her on her way.

On her own, Quinby had not been so frightened. The cabbie jabbered on and on about his "home" in India and how things were so different here. The bustle of city was comforting to the girl, although she clutched her bags to her chest protectively. By the time she emerged from the cab at the camp parking lot, her nose, ears, and bare arms were burned. She squinted just a little harder than the others there, and she probably should have looked toward the pavement, but she found the surrounding foliage far too interesting (as blurry as it was). The landscape shuddered with excited nystagmus, and the androgynous child gave her first words on this new land.

"Wew'iss noice, innit?"

"Interrogation? This early on? You sure have a way with introducing yourself to the kids, Kaspar!" Another German? A younger, blond fellow rushed to the man and the younger boy, a big grin on his face. "I wouldn't mind him too much," he cupped his mouth in his hands as he leaned down to the boy's ear, whispering loud enough for Faust to hear, "He's just a grouchy old man whose life-blood is filled with coffee and anger...!"

Before giving Mr. Faust the slightest chance to reply, he bolted upright and offered his hand, "I'm Asher Eaton, Psychonaut and councilor. I didn't quite catch your name...?"

The Psychonaut was interrupted by the new camper heading for the shade. An albino? It was odd for one to be sent to a camp, especially considering how much it means a child would be out in the sun. Making himself taller, he raised his voice to get their attention. "Hello! Are you here for camp?" Normally, he would have called them over, but the lack of shade where they were standing would have been extremely uncomfortable for the child, he was sure.

A second car pulled into the drive, an older looking car that had seen better days, but still ran enough to get from point A to B. The elderly woman in the driver's side smiled at the three as she pulled up next to them and rolled down the window. "This is Murmuring Pines, yes?" The girl in the passenger side seemed preoccupied with something out of her own window.

"Why, yes ma'am, it is! Dropping off?" The answer to that question was obvious, but of course, this was Asher we're talking about, giving the woman a broad smile.

"Thank you, young man!" Not bothering to answer the obvious, she turned to the girl, placing her hand on her knee. "Kristel, dear, we're here. Do you need a hand with your belongings?" The girl turned the the woman with a blank expression before a smile grew. "No, oma, I can get it!" She beamed as she jumped out of the car, opening the trunk and grabbing a large, red bag from the back.

Asher quickly took the bag as Kristel struggled with it, to which she gladly allowed. She ran to the window of the car, giving her grandma a kiss on the cheek before she drove off. "Kristel, was it? Nice to have you here! This is Kaspar Faust, and I'm Asher Eaton. Welcome to Murmuring Pines!"

The drive to the camp had been quiet, and as much as it might have normally bothered her that she wasn't spending the quality time with her father like she wanted to, at the moment she couldn't bear to speak to him. Or her mother. Or anyone at all. She hadn't originally planned to show on the very first day of the camp - for the past week she had holed herself up in her room, in complete silence. She had concentrated on ensuring that she kept those voices out of her head. But it hadn't worked. Before, when she had tried so hard to try and coax them, now it seemed like she couldn't get away from them. She had almost decided that she wasn't going to go, until two days before the beginning of the camp when one particular thought hit her hard:

Can't run away...

She couldn't run away from it, and she never usually did try to run from her problems. She preferred to deal with them as swiftly as possible. But this, something that had been so completely out of her hands... So she decided to leave, rather then adding more fuel to the fire by staying home.

The car came to a halt, and she exited promptly taking her luggage with her. She didn't look at her father.

"I-" He began, but she wouldn't know what he would have said since she slammed the car door and walked away. She walked a bit before dropping her bag and looking around. It looked like a normal summer camp. At least she had some sort of illusion that she wasn't being sent away where all the freaks were. She crossed her arms and then heard a voice behind her.

... Eh?

She whipped around, her eyes narrowing to a glare, proceeding to jab the, what she presumed to be male in the shoulder. "What did you just say to me?" And he was squinting. Way not to be obvious that he was trying to get a good look at her a**. Well, other then the fact he commented on it.

Good god, she had been on the lot for one minute and she was being sexually harrassed already? What a reassurance she wasn't going to be around crazies all summer.

Tyler's parent's hadn't exactly dropped him off at the right place, they'd gotten the main road's name sorted all right, bit he could feel the confusion in the air as they tried to remember where exactly it was they they were supposed to be dropping off their 'special' boy... special was right apparently. That was why they were sending him here... well fine, if that was how they wanted to deal with it. It couldn't be worse than the supposedly 'normal' camps he'd been to in previous years when his parents had needed to find him somewhere to stay over the summer while they went off to do one thing or another. They were a lovely pair, and he was treated very well, at least as far as he saw it, they loved him, bough him his clothes, fed him well and let him listen to the sex pistols as loudly as he wanted, unless they had something on, at which point he was provided with a most excellent pair of headphones, delightfully loud they were as well.

"You can drop me here ma," He stated to the red and green haired woman that was driving the campervan he was currently settled in. "I know where I'm going." He'd seen a sign a little way back, that was good enough for him. She fussed a little, but soon, knowing he was probably right, she pulled over and allowed him to clamber out.
"You be careful Tyler," She stated, "Do try not to cause... too much trouble this time..."
"Sure Ma," He stated, tugging his large pack out of the back with him, and the hold all, which he flung over his shoulder. He was pretty used to packing his life up into bags, he liked the adventure, he couldn't understand how so many kids just stayed home all the time and never went anywhere. It was one thing he loved about his parents vagrant lifestyle, he got to go to so many different places, and if he got in any trouble, well, it never stayed around to haunt him.
"Stick it to 'em Son!" Was the last thing heard from his dad before the van drove away, the loud tones of some punk band fading away into nothing as he turned his attention to walking the way along the path that the sign had suggested.

He walked quite happily along the path, his 3/4 length trousers meant that while he was still pretty warm it wasn't as unbearable as it could have been. A t-shirt completed his simple outfit, with the logo of some random band his parents had driven off to see some time back. He had a lot of band t-shirts with him, he liked them. When he saw the group of kids that was gathering up ahead he realised that while they all had to have been sent here for similar reasons to him, that they were certainly a very different bunch... he... wasn't sure how well he was going to fit in, but never mind. With a sigh he lifted a hand to check his brightly coloured hair over and stepped a little closer to them.

Originally from England he still had a good deal of the British accent about him, as well as most of the slang. He'd not been away from there for long. It was only in recent years that his parents had taken to liking to travel abroad, and camp, well, that provided a good way to at least have their son in the same country as them. Though his natural expression was a very slight frown, the boy had a confident air to him as he walked towards the group.

This would be fun, if it didn't happen naturally, he'd make sure it was...

No mood.

He was in no mood for Asher's nonsense, whatsoever.

Grip on the mug tightening, he brought it back to his lips and took a stiff chug. It was like the real life personification of Good Cop, Bad Cop. Asher was the "good" cop and Kaspar was the "bad" cop, at least he was certain that was how the blond would want to see it.

Letting his temper go on the matter wouldn't be good, especially not on the first day, so he let whatever was left of the cold coffee to calm himself. It worked, momentarily.

Let it go... For now. Once the kids were in their cabins and getting situated by themselves, he was going to get back on it with a death grip.

"Daniel Kalinska..?" he repeated to the second man, also taken aback that this one was unfamiliar. Had the staff changed completely during the course of one year? Even as he turned around and spotted the few approaching campers, he didn't recognize a one of them.

Both he and Mr. Fauste watched as the blond ran off to help out one, then two. He was trying to do it all himself, much like Kaspar but in very different ways.

"Sh-should I--"

"Wait here," he dropped the gruff order and walked past Daniel, down the dirt slope and onto the pavement. There was a blonde girl, an extremely pale...something, a darker skinned girl and a boy with a mohawk.

Wonderful. Fraught with sarcasm.

He approached each one individually, though decided to go after the pale and dark kids last since they seemed to be having some sort of strange verbal scuffle.

Tyler first.

"Name and year?"

Whatever was going on with the two kids, one gender indeterminate, was concerning Daniel a fair bit. He was told to stay put but something had happened and neither counselors seemed able to do anything about it yet so he decided to drop his suitcase and back pack and meander over. It was possible whatever it was could be settled between the two of them but he thought it best to have someone referee, even in the background, just to be safe.

Just don't throw punches...

Quinby's eyes floated down to gaze upon the smaller girl, seeming to take no offense to the poke. It took her a moment to realize what she was being accused of, having forgotten herself in her own knowledge of being female. Of course. She was not the type of person you would want to meet in a dark alleyway, and The DaVinci Code had made sure of that (even if the remarkably attractive Silas was genetically impossible). Couple that with her entirely androgynous way of speech and style, and most people leaped to the conclusion that she was some sort of perverted man, again probably the fault of too many movies.

"The daiy," she explained, giving a sweet, close-lipped smile. Her eyes would not quite focus, and it frustrated her, "It's noice, innit? Oim Quinby. Quin's foine. It's noice t'see anotha' gi'l hea. One 'oo's not li'il, anywaiy."

She found it was usually best to break the news in as sideways and subtle a way as possible. People tended to take offense if you took offense, and a blank 'I'm a girl' had never really gone over well. The last time she'd tried it, she'd been laughed-at and pummeled with rocks. No fun there.

Calypso waited patiently, tapping her foot. Perhaps that wasn't an all too accurate description - she was waiting as patiently as a person who was all too eager to vent out their anger and frustration. It didn't help much when Quinby smiled, causing her to take an offensive step forward, meaning that she was only now inches away from Quinby. However, this demeanor changed when the androgynous figure began to talk, mostly because she was pooling all her energy in trying to decipher the words.

She stood there for a few moments after Quinby finished, continuing to tap her foot and trying to make sense of what had been said. Oh. So he was a she...? "Um. Okay." She said scratching her head, scanning Quinby up and down to try and see if that was really the case. She still couldn't tell. She took a step back and offered her hand. "Calypso." She still seemed a bit suspicious about the manner, but at the very least she wasn't going to start a brawl. Which was good, right?

Her eyes momentarily scanned the premise, narrowing in on a pale boy who seemed to be watching them rather cautiously. Really, how many creepers could you hole up in one place?

Taken back by how lively staff seemed, Kristel stood watching as Asher toted her belongings off and Kaspar went to greet the other children. This was her first year at camp and man, was she excited. She'd dreamed of this, well, since she was smaller; having been fed so many stories growing up. Her grandmother practically never stopped giving them, not that she minded. They knew she was special, maybe that's one of the reasons Kristel's parents sent her to America...

Glancing over the other campers, all strewn about in different places as the counselors attempted to keep them all in track, she noticed Daniel standing not far from her. He seemed to be the only other one to be just... standing. After a few seconds, she persuaded herself to go over. "Hi, I'm Kristel! What's your name...?"

By this time, Asher had begun making his rounds to greet the other campers as well. He made sure to go a different order than Faust, knowing that he'd steamed him off a little too early. Hopefully that wouldn't affect how he greeted the children. If it did, maybe he'd make it a little easier to make them comfortable. His relatively heavy accent would amuse them, if nothing else.

Quinby gladly took Calypso's hand, shaking it with all of the grip and self-assured strength of a young man. When she saw the smaller girl looking out toward someone else, though, she followed her gaze to a strange, almost anemic-looking boy. Being Quin, the girl raised her free hand, released Calypso's, and gave a happy greeting that could have been either "hi" or "oi".

"I'm Tyler Moorcroft." Tyler stated as the tall guy started speaking to him. He didn't seem to be the least bit shy or retiring, just pretty confident and out going. "This is my first year here." He'd stopped walking, waiting for the man to reach him. "Do I need to sign anything or do anything in particular?" He asked, quirking an eyebrow up at the older man as he dropped one of his bags down by his side.

He'd not really done the whole camp thing too many times, a couple, sure, but who knew that this one was gonna be like.. he felt kinda weird just being here.. and the other campers as well were an odd looking bunch. That wasn't a problem though, if anything that made him feel a little better. He'd stand out, sure, he was blue haired and sloppy, but what did that matter? At least he wasn't the only one that looked a little odd here..

His attention was distracted by the other kids. Sure he'd listen if the adult here had something to tell him, but at the same time he'd actually kinda rather go and see what these other kids were like... it probably wouldn't take him long to actually irritated them all, piss them off, make them angry, make them cry? God knows... he was good at irritating people at the end of the day.

He should probably have asked for the adults name... but that didn't really occur to him just now.

Calypso also had a naturally strong grip, at least for ages, though she often forced it to get a squeak out of whoever's hand she was shaking. Though, she suspected that Quin was just naturally strong and not just trying to have a shake-off. She held the other's hand for another few seconds, as if trying to fortify the theory that she was a girl. She let go when Quinby waved to the boy, arching her eyebrow for a moment and then also giving a wave. Unlike Quin, she decided to stay silent.

Just what she needed in her life. More boys.

Kaspar tucked away these two pieces of knowledge along with the boy's face. His response was more sturdy than the first boy, Daniel's had been and that pleased the man a bit. "No need. Mingle here with the others for a moment while I get everyone's names, then we'll show you to your bunks," the annoyance in his voice was gone for that brief moment since Tyler was so responsive and, dare he think it, confident.

Confidence was a big draw for Kaspar and it made him actually respect people. Sometimes, such as in Asher's case, too much confidence would put him off entirely. It was a very fine and delicate balance with the caffeine addict. Waving a hand for Tyler to carry on or mix in with the other kids, he moved over to the small group that had formed between the androgynous child and a girl.

All of the kids were so different, it would be incredibly easy for him to remember them all. "Names and years?"

Not quite sure what was going on, Daniel just decided to wave back. It seemed whatever altercation had begun was now over with and he could go about his business. If anything, it helped him to get acquainted with their faces which was probably all he would know up until classes began.

Simultaneous relief and tension swept over him when he saw the tall man who interrogated him move over towards the group and Daniel scooted himself away, not wanting to deal with him again for some time. As he turned, he came face to face with a blond girl introducing herself. Well, that was surprising, to say the least, and he quickly brought a hand up to grip at his shirt. The start she'd given him almost resulted in a split, a projection, but he calmed it down.

No need for him to just drop out cold and wander around as a thought on his first day.

"Kirstel? Hi... Is this your first year? I'm Daniel." But you can call him Daniel, it's short for Daniel. He felt like an idiot for coming off as formal and, had he been alone, he probably would have hit himself in the head.

Quinby's direction was being pulled in multiple ways at once. Where she had been previously looking at the pale boy in the distance, her head now snapped toward the man that seemed to be taking down the children's information. She idly wondered if the campy had been supplied with her information already, or if she would have to give it...

"Ah...Quinby Duggary, 'guv. Ah, I mean, 'suh. Fi'ist yea'."

"Sure thing." Tyler just nodded as the councillor left him to go and talk to the others. that seemed enough of a response really. He didn't really care for conversation if there was nothing much to be said. He glanced around the group.. lots of girls... wait.. the pale kid... that one was hard to tell, and the other boy, well damn, he just looked real skinny.. maybe he'd have to offer that one some of the candy he had in his bag... he looked like he could use it as well...

There were a few others.. a couple of girls.. he didn't usually talk to girls.. admittedly... but oh well. The boy had introduced himself as Daniel.. and that... pale one... was Quinby.. well, that didn't give away too much either.. he'd have to ask that one what.. he..or she actually was.

Either way he could see that most of the group were pretty busy just now... he tugged some headphones out of his pocket and tucked one of them into his ear, shoving his hand back into his pocket to push play on the MP3 player he had tucked in there. Moments later, Guns n Roses.... nice.. He'd have plenty of time to introduce himself when the councillor was done with things here.. he didn't want to interupt important things after all.
