It was well after dark, a cool night, but not cold enough for fear of snow. She slipped into the glade and settled herself in. For a while nothing was said, and the animals just gathered around her. She wordlessly fed her dinner to a pair of foxes. Then, at almost one am, her voice spread. A mental voice speaking to all the local animals, a voice that he would likely overhear if he was near bye. *I'm just... tired of it, you know?* came the mental whisper. *Just a few more months, she can't wait just a few more months?* she sighed. *Of course not,* She was surrounded with small wildlife now. Like snow White, if you ignored the long hair, jeans with a rip in each knee, and long sleeved turtleneck. Oh and the fact that mixed in with the cute birds and squirrels and deer were a pair of foxes and a bobcat. And yet... she looked perfectly at home.

Eric was flying overhead, returning home from hunting when he heard the distressed female voice. He turned his body so that his great wings would catch the draft and allow him to wheel down and find the voice. It tugged at him as nothing else had these long centuries. So lost. As he neared the ground, he shifted again, taking on the form of a wolf. He inched closer to the clearing, the mental voice still tugging at him to get closer.

She sighed a bit and lifted one of the foxes into her lap where she began stroking it gently. *thank you,* she whispered to the animals, visibly calming. Her eyes closed and her head tipped back. *Just a few more months.*

As he came closer to the female's resting postion, his nostrils tingled with her smell. It was highly detectable above the other animals and shook his control. Unable to hold the form of the wolf with this new assault to his senses. The scent stirred in him long forgotten feelings, one that he hadn't felt for nearly six hundred years. Silently, like a predator, he scooted closer, hiding in the shadows. His black eyes pierced the night to see the young girl. Eric railed, stepping backwards from the sight of her. Though it was the middle of the night, he could see her as clearly as if the sun were shining brightly, and indeed the sight of her affected his sensitive eyes as if it were day. Upon looking at her colors exploded around him, blinding him from their sudden and unexpected arrival. After his first two hundred, all colors and emotions were lost to him. This unexpected burst could only mean that the young child he gazed upon was his lifemate. But how...and why now...? He closed his eyes against the assault and struggled with his inner instincts. She was not yet of age, honor and law dictated that he wait to go to her, but she was alone and sad...With a sigh he dismissed the possible consequences for breaking the laws of his people. This was his lifemate and he needed to protect her.
Something has made you weary. Perhaps there is something that I can do to aid you. Eric sent the message with waves of safety and reassurance. Hidden behind a tree, he watched her, blinking tears from his eyes from the pain of having his colors and emotions restored. Her emotions ate at him and his control, causing him to manually have to slow his breathing so that he could be calm and collected for his lifemate.

Skunk blinked and looked around, searching. Finally she figured it was just one of the animals and she breathed deeply, restfully, a few times. "Just being here, you lot are helping me," she answered in a vocal whisper. "Always able to be more at peace with you all," she said, and tried to fight back a very determined yawn. "Too bad I can't just move my bed out into the woods," she said softly, smiling a small bit as she stoked the head of the fox. One of the Bobcats curled beside her and began purring roughly. She leaned, careful of the fox, and kissed the cat on his mangy head. "A few more months."

He smiled in his hiding place. If you chose to stay here, you would be kept safe. I can see to that. He cursed himself. He couldn't claim her yet. She was too young...But she was not happy where she was. He was bound to see to her safety, health, and happiness. She was safe and healthy here with him, so he could push to make her happy, couldn't he?

She chuckled lightly. "And the lot of you know I'd stay in an eye blink, if I could. But as long as I live under that hags roof, I still have to go to school. You'll see. a few months from now, I'll snitch some supplies, a tent, live out here as long as I can get away with it. Just a few more months."

His smile widened. The feeling of anticipation had his heart pounding. He slowly took a deep breath and shifted into a wolf. As he strode from the timber line he sent her a message. What if I could find you someone to tutor you here? He stopped about eight inches away fom her, his dark eyes fixed on her and the creature in her hand.

"Oh....." she whispered, eyes wide, hand leaving the cat to go to her mouth as awe filled her. She had been honored by the presence of magnificent animals before, but never one of his caliber. Not even aware she was doing it, she never was aware she was doing it, she sent waves of peace out to the animals around her. "Thank you," she whispered, awed, bowing her head as best she could without ever looking away from him for even a moment, "however, humans are rather prickly. I doubt they'd accept the kind of education you propose, as honored as I would be to have it, kind one."

The wolf's eyes twinkled. I could find you a person to tutor you, human child. One that would offer you a home and warm bed and fine schooling. He sat down in front of her, crowding the bobcat for room next to her.

The bobcat would scamper off and take up a post by her other leg. She bit her lip, wanting so much to touch that amazing furry body, but not quite daring to. "The old biddy would not approve. Besides, humans are dangerous. Yes even for you," she chided affectionately, not giving him a chance to respond. "And don't give me that look either, I am quite immune to it. I know you are strong and magnificent, but stay away from twoleggers. Especially the males, they're the worst of the worst, and they're dangerous. They might try to hurt you, and their pack could be larger. Even if you win out, many of yours could be harmed. It is not worth it. But thank you." She sighed softly. "I need to be getting back soon. Would... might you be here tomorrow night?" she asked, hesitantly.

The wolf nodded its head. Tomorrow, but only after I know you are safely home.

She chuckled lightly. "Thank you. But you daren't come too near to the houses. I'll get home safe. This isn't a city. And it's not school. I'll be fine getting back to the hag's home. I'll see if I can't nick you some dinner tomorrow also, just please don't blame me that she cooks the stuff." her stomach growled loudly and she sighed a bit. "Apples really ought to be more filling," she mumbled as she gently eased the fox from her lap.

You are hungry. I know where there are some wild carrots and other hearty roots you can eat before you leave. He stood next to her, gently nudging her into the direction of the vegetables.

She hesitated, torn then nodded. "Alright. Do I even want to know why a wolf is aware of the location of my salad?"
