The Wizarding World of Gaia's Livejournal Community Thread
Gaiaonline has provided dozens of amazing features that we use in this guild - the avatars, the personalized guild forms, the environment in Towns - but it does not provide a place for users to discuss adult topics or post fanfiction without cluttering subforums with threads. For these Wizarding Community needs, we turn to Livejournal: a despicable company with a useful format for posting fanfiction, and enough freedom to discuss conversations that would get one banned from Gaiaonline.
It is in our own community, Big Desk Guild, that we are can host these topics, post our fanfiction and fanart, and not be hindered by the Gaiaonline Rules & Regulations.
This Thread The purpose of this thread is to provide information regarding the livejournal community and the activities within. Guild Members are invited to discuss the livejournal community, share related tips, and ask questions. Please see the next post for thread news.

About the Website Livejournal - though maintained by bigots and morons - is an excellent website for communication and posting fanworks to share with others. If you are unfamiliar with the website, I suggest you read its Wikipedia Article for a more detailed explanation of its uses.
What the Big Desk Guild Community Offers • The chance to post fanfiction, fanart, or other fanworks to share with your fellow guild members. • The ability to discuss adult subjects without putting your Gaiaonline account at risk. • To participate in challenges and contests, sometimes with the motivation of Gaiaonline prizes.

About the Weekly Community Challengeread its community entry here This challenge is posted each week, offering inspiration (and sometimes rewards) to encourage members to submit fanworks. Most members respond in the form of drabbles, but fanart, fanvideos, and banners are also welcome entries. It’s an excellent way to share information about your characters and their backstories, and show your creative flair to your guild member peers.
About the Community Prompt Tablesread its community entry here The Community’s Prompt Tables are collections of challenges for members to take on to encourage them to submit multiple fanworks devoted to one character, pairing, or group, with a table that helps them track and share their progress.

Posting to the Livejournal Community
Step One After joining Livejournal, navigate to the Big Desk Guild profile page. In the upper-right portion of the profile, there is a list of actions including “Join” and “Watch.” Click “Join.”
Step Two Navigate to the inside of the community (where the entries are listed; you can access it through “Journal Entries”) and glance at the very top of the page - some of the actions offered include “Post to this community.” Click that option.
Step Three The easiest way to manage your entry is to switch to “HTML” mode - you can select that option in the upper-right portion of your entry.
Step Four Copy/Paste the required format provided in this entry. Fill in the information, and copy/paste your fanfiction beneath it.
Step Five If your submission is adult in nature or is longer than 300 words, you must place it behind a Livejournal Cut. To do so, use this coding:
FANFICTION GOES HERE
Step Six You may need to do some additional coding for bolding, italizing, etc. The HTML coding required is all listed in this Handy-Dandy Cheat Sheet.
Step Seven If you are familiar with tagging, you can list any applicable tags from the list, separated by commas. Naz is responsible for tagging entries, however, so if it is not something you understand or have time for, you are not obligated to use them.
Step Eight Feel free to select a current mood, share what you are currently listening to, and provide your location.
Step Nine You shouldn’t have anything else to adjust, so post your entry to the community and wait for someone to comment on your efforts.
Posting a Prompt Table Step One After logging in, locate “Journal” on the convenient taskbar at the top of your page. From the drop-down menu, select the first option, “Post an Entry.”
Step Two Copy/paste the code of your selected prompt table into your entry. Add any additional information (such as what challenge you’re giving yourself, your mood, etc.) Submit your post.
Step Three To update your table with any completed prompts, locate the entry again and click the “Edit” option available at the top of the entry.
Step Four Locate the prompt you completed, and use the following code:
Step Five In the quotes, place the url to the entry containing the completed prompt. Post your edited entry and double-check that the url goes to the prompt entry.

Community Tags Tags are used to organize entries in a livejournal community. They are convenient because they help browsers find particular content - all one must do is click their desired tag, and any entry listing that tag is presented for their viewing!
If you are desperate to soothe that Voldemort/Godfrey fix, the “pairing: voldemort/godfrey” tag will become your new best friend!
The list of tags can be viewed here.
Common Tags Mod Post • Entries with this tag were made by moderators and regard important information or announcements.
Discussion • This tag is used to indicate the entry is intended to start a conversation through comments.
Fandom Thought • These posts are random, discussion-starting thoughts had by members. (Example: “I was reading GoF and, man, Voldemort/Peter just jumped out at me!”)
Content: Fanfiction/Fanart/Fanvideo/Banner/Essay/Etc • These tags are used to organize fanworks by their type.
Pairing: • These are used to organize fanworks involving the same pairing.
Rated: • These indicate the level of content a submission contains - for information on what each rating encompasses, see this post.
Requesting a Tag If you require a tag for your livejournal post that is not already provided in the list, please post in this thread to address the issue. If the tag is necessary, it will be added immediately.

I believe that covers everything. *Adjusts glasses* There isn't much to detail with the community still in its infancy.

If anyone has any suggestions regarding ways the livejournal community could grow in the future, I would appreciate some feedback.
