The shaggy black lion lounged beneath an outcropping of stone the shade cooling him from the beating midday sun. Wakia was thinking of times before the war, before his brother was revealed, and before his mother's death. He had younger siblings now, they were almost adults, weren't they? His children were nearing adulthood as well, picking occupations and looking into the future. His life was pretty fulfilling he had the girl, he had the kids, and he was free from the repression of the past.

He was a typical firekin with an angry temper and in size, but he was not needlessly aggressive. His mother had taught him to analyze and think things out through story telling. He wasn't a story teller for this pride, but he still had a story teller's mind. He wondered if his offspring had a mind like his, or like Lilo's? He had contact with them but didn't feel he knew them each personally.

Spreading his claws in the loose sand Wakia waited, he was sure Umlilo would pass through here.

Umlilo was bored, something that had been an uncommon occurrence in her life previously. Once one lost their apathy, though, profound disinterest was accompanied by the desire to replace it with something more interesting. It was the one major downside to how her new life had changed her. She blamed Wakia entirely for her new perspective and liked to pretend it was a bad thing. If she hadn't fallen for him, hadn't had cubs, she would probably have died of unnoticed boredom long before now. The idea made her chuckle, it really was just a joke.

But that didn't mean it wasn't Wakia's job to occupy her when she was bored. So she headed back towards the den to see if she might locate her mate. Worst case scenario, she might run into one of their ever-growing cubs. Not a bad thing, she enjoyed hearing of their progress.. they were a bunch to be proud of. In her completely biased opinion, of course.

She didn't even make it close to the den when she spotted a familiar dark and bright spot in the shade. Chances were pretty good it was Wakia, and if not then the next most likely culprit was Chaka.. either way, she headed directly for it, pleased when it became obvious it was Wakia.

Wakia jumped to his feet at seeing his dark red mate, her colors were unmistakable among all of the bright colored red, yellow, black, and white colored lions he lived among. She was the only one he let all walls down for, there were no boundaries, at least he felt between them.

"Umlilo, how are you?" he spoke loudly and walked towards her, he wanted to ask her about what she felt of the traditionalists being integrated into their current society. He did not think it would be possible to see the two sides get along.

Lilo was rather pleased to see Wakia jump up when she appeared, it was always good to know you could still get that reaction out of your mate. They didn't have to be mushy to show affection or appreciate the subtler signs of it.

"Bored," she answered simply, though with a small grin as she got closer. Like Wakia, she was most honest with him. Of everybody, she trusted Wakia most- and that was how it should be, she thought.

"Where have you been all day?"

"Brooding over our brood," he grinned and sat down feeling the heat of the sun sink into his dark pelt. "I was thinking about how big they are getting! I just cannot believe it, well I can but..time seems to be standing still sometimes." His answer was long winded but it was how he was thinking, and the story teller liked to perk out.

"If you're bored we could go for a walk, I'd like to get a drink of water, maybe we'll see something to cure your boredom?" He chuckled, "unless you have any other ideas?"

"Ha," she laughed at his description of how he had spent his day, amused but also clinging to some resentment over the circumstances of their litter- not that it hadn't worked out nicely in the end. And they did have a fine bunch.

"It's good they're getting bigger, they can start taking care of themselves," she said, though major teachings were handled by those they were apprenticed to, there were other things family still handled. She dared to smile, realizing how her comment might seem. She did not want to feel like she was the same way she believed her own mother to be, there was a difference and she was sure Wakia understood that without her saying anything.

"A walk could be nice," Lilo agreed, though she didn't seem to believe it would be terribly exciting, until she thought about recent events, "Perhaps we'll spot some of the less pleased safi lions." She knew to be careful on the subject, Wakia had come from the safi after all.. and had family there. Still, it would be amusing to see some of the grumpy looks.
