What age did he start at? Or what age is a good age to start playing?

Idk when he started but I started playing at age 14 (just 6 months ago) and I love playing guitar. It's pretty easy for me and Syn is totally the reason why I started.

Syn started when he was 13 and I started when I was 10 and I'm okay. Not the best but I can play most of Syn's parts and even more of Zack's (to an extent) I would say wait until you're at least 12 or 13 and then you need to find a guitarist to idolize. Watch all the youtube videos and all the DVD's until you get it right dont bother spending money on guitar lessons. Syn and Zacky didnt and look how good they are.

Actually, it doesn't matter how old you are. What matters is if you're dedicated and if the instrument is right for you.
I've a friend, just turned 18, that started playing 3 months ago, and she can alot of Syn's solos, and a lot of the Eagle's songs too. Made her learn Hotel California first. She started playin' 'cause her boyfriend's a bassist. He also play guitar. And was teaching her. Until she started playing the Eagle's. He also is teaching her bass. I must go and see how that is coming along... ^.^

Yea, Syn started playing guitar probably around his early teenage years. Probably a big reason why he became such a good guitar player was that his dad ("Papa Gates") was a professional guitar player. Syn didn't want to be taught by him, so he watched videos and read books about guitar, and I think he and Zacky also watched videos of bands they liked, trying to learn their songs from those. Syn was probably motivated by wanting to be better than his dad, but not being taught by him, since his dad would more than likely keep pressuring him to constantly practice the things he would teach him. But, I don't know any of that 100%.

think he started playing in middle school, or highschool.

You can start any age. Music has no age limits.
If you keep your mind at it, you'll become good.
