Ok...just wondering if my friend can actually do this.
My friend plays a Pulsemage advocate ( http://www.cardsuneed.com/images/JG/Pulsemage_Advocate.JPG ). Next turn, he taps it for it's ability but I have no cards in the graveyard.
I can understand why he maybe able to do this since it's part of the affect and not a requirement, but I need a second opinion on this...

I think that he has to be able to target 3 creatures in your graveyard for it to work. It's like hex, if there aren't enough legal targets then the spell fizzles.

there has top be at least three cards in your graveyard that can be targeted and returned to your hand by this effect. so it doesn't work unless your graveyard is big enough for the effect's first cost to activate.

think of it like this, he taps the card and then has to return three cards in your graveyard before the card actually has a effect that does anything except tap his creature.
