With all the Candidates and new Weyrlings slowly making their way towards their designated locations, Nandeli took the opportunity to slip out of the crowd and head back to the Candidate Quarters. Normally she would have hurried off to the dining hall to listen in on all the extremely important conversations, but what with how late the Hatching had been, nobody seemed to be moving very quickly. Thus, she had time to dash back to her little alcove and get rid of her candidate robe. The white material was easily pulled over her head and hung on her hook, marked by a little N on the top. She'd had this hook and this robe for as long as she'd been a Candidate and so far it had seemed to bring good luck to everyone else. Perhaps that was how it worked.
Nandeli fingered the robe absently as she untied the bit of fabric that held back her curls. She couldn't be too unhappy with the outcome of today's Hatching. After all, several of her close companions had Impressed. Maybe it was better to keep this robe if it would encourage the dragons to pick her friends. She could always stay here with or without a dragon. Grinning to herself, Nan adjusted her clothing and trotted back down the corridor of the girls' quarters. Back to the throng of people!

Sovann-- S'van, he corrected himself, was heading toward the Candidate barracks, his expression notably forlorn. Oh, there was some happiness in his green hazel eyes, but something about the set of his mouth suggested that he was worried, and feeling somewhat bereft. The brown dragonet at his side did not especially approve of said feelings, but there was very little he could do just now to staunch them. Perhaps in time his rider would become used to the way of things, and there would be no need for it. All but trudging, S'van ducked into the candidate's barracks. "Galliath, can you see if anyone is in there?" After all, he did not want to be seen just now.

She was just about to turn down the tunnel that led to the kitchens when the sound of movement made her stop. Was someone else here? She hadn't thought anyone had come with her. Nandeli paused in her step, listening. Whoever it was sounded like they were going to the boy's portion of the candidate quarters. Curiousity got the better of her – as it usually did – and she turned and headed back towards the alcoves. She wanted to see who was sneaking about when they should be back at the Hatching Feast.
The sound of her voice made her stop before she ran into the glow-outlined figured and his... dragon? Wait, there was a Weyrling here? And not just any Weyrling! "Sovann? What are you doing back here?" Nandeli whispered, blinking curiously at the newest brownrider. Why wasn't he with the other Weyrlings? And, more importantly, why wasn't he with Okassis? Did they have a fight?

"It's S'van now." So- ... S'van's tone was a little colder than he had intended, and he tried to make up for it by managing a hint of a smile for the mischievous rumor monger. "Just collecting my things, really. Nothing important." And trying to find some time to himself, because he was sulking somewhat. Not that he wanted to say that, of course. Hmm. Well, maybe not so much sulking as brooding. Yes, that was it. Brooding. Brooding was much less effeminate. Then he realized that he had said the words 'nothing important' to Nandeli. Uh oh. See, that was just asking for trouble, assuming that it hadn't already brought trouble with it.

Nandeli chuckled softly. "Sorry, S'van." Aaaw what a cute shortening of his name! It rolled so nicely off the tongue! His answer to her question was fairly standard for him – far too honest for her tastes – but she found his tone to be rather worrisome. She had never known a new weyrling to look so sad on the night of the Hatching. Usually they were so dreamy and giddy it was hard to even get them to answer simple questions. Had she really been right about him and Okassis? (Her, being right about something? Oh dear).
Folding her arms over her chest, she tilted her head to the side and studied what she could see of her friend-yet-not. "It's gotta be important for you to be back here and not out there with the rest of them. Not to mention you don't look very happy for someone who just Impressed a dragon. Were you really hoping for a green?" she teased, though she was beginning to get honestly concerned.

"No, not at all. I'm very happy to have Impressed Galliath, really." He was, he honestly was. Anyone would be happy to Impress me, the brown dragonet said smugly. Who is the girl, S'van? Is she your mate? ... Oh dear. "This is Nandeli, Gall, and no, she's not." Galliath. S'van ignored the insistence in Gall's tone. Did the dragonet really even understand the concept of a mate? Especially a human one? You should smile like she does. Be happy. Why are you not pleased? "I am very pleased, I am! It's not that, Gall, I promise," the boy whispered soothingly, trying to convince his brown that his worries had nothing to do with him. "This is what I have always wanted. It's just..." It was just that now he might very well lose another dear friend.

"If you say so…" she didn't sound very convinced. Her attention turned to other matters, however, when she became aware of a very one-sided conversation. "I'm not what?" Nandeli looked between the dragon and the rider, wishing not for the first time that she was privy to their thoughts. Telepathic communication severally stunted her ability to get information. The fact that S'van hadn't figured out how to talk to his dragon that way, however, made things a lot easier on her part. She could hear all of what he had to say even if she couldn't hear his dragon.
"Just what? You can tell me too, you know. I promise I won't laugh or anything. Er… Candidates honour!" Whatever that was. But Nandeli really wouldn't laugh if it was something serious.

Oh Faranth. S'van had forgotten that he was speaking aloud rather than simply allowing Galliath to pick up what he would from his thoughts. Grimacing, the weyrling shrugged his shoulders. "Galliath was wondering if you were my mate." Galliath, who knew S'van's head inside and out, had been rather curious about the kiss and what it had meant. "I'm not sure he understands what he was implying anyway. He's a baby, after all." A cheeky, self important baby, but a baby nonetheless. "I'm very happy about Impressing, but... Okassis didn't Impress. You know, his caravan used to stay near our home about ten turns ago. When we got a little older, they left and I only saw him twice a turn or so. I suppose when I arrived here and he ended up my roommate, I got used to seeing him all the time." ... Why was he telling Nan this? Why had that seemed like a good idea? "Of the two of us, I'm surprised that I'm the one who Impressed, and that he's the one who was left standing on the Sands. He always says that there is only one dragon for anyone, so maybe he'll wait around for his dragon." Then again, he was so used to Kas leaving.

His mate? Nan's lips twitched as she fought to keep a straight face. She ultimately lost the battle, and settled for a small giggle. S'van's mate? How funny would that be? Clearly, though, the dragon was privy to something she was not. Idly, she wondered if she should be a little worried that she was ruining her own Okassis/S'van fantasy. "He sounds absolutely adorable, though I shouldn't be taking this as him voicing your true feelings for me, right?" She waggled a finger at his playfully.
Nandeli quickly shut up, however, when S'van began explaining himself. So she had been right, in a roundabout sort of way. Everything seemed to be because of Okassis. Still, she could sympathize with him a little bit on this matter, and so she draped an arm over his shoulder affectionately. "To be honest, I was a little surprised he didn't Impress too. There are certain types that get Searched and you think 'ah, now he'll be a good dragonrider', you know? But I mean, I don't think he's the type to just walk away from an opportunity like this, don't you think? Not to mention he'd have to be parted for your sweet and adorable company…."

"Shards no. No, no, no. I definitely, definitely do not feel that way about you." S'van thought about how Nan might take that, being a girl and all (and thus being a fragile flower whose self worth is in constant need of nourishment) and added,"-- No offense. You're pretty, sure as shells, but I don't think of you in that way." Is she as beautiful as I am? Galliath said curiously, remembering that S'van had called him beautiful. His memory of events was a little sketchy (a lot sketchy), but he did remember praise remarkably well. "Wh-what!? Sweet and adorable? I'm... I'm not sweet and adorable!" Aghast, S'van took a half a step back.

His vehement denial of anything between them made her laugh. As it should rightly be. S'van's one true love was clearly Okassis, not her. It would majorly suck if she was responsible for one of her own fantasies falling to pieces. "None taken," she replied easily, flashing him a mega-watt smile at the compliment. Aaw, he thought she was pretty! How very sweet of him! "We gotta at least be super best friends before we go further, don't you think?" She laughed again. Boys were so adorable sometimes.
"Oh but you are!" Nandeli protested, reaching out in an attempt to pinch one of his cheeks. "You've got the smallest little dimple right here when you smile and that makes you adorable! Seriously! I suppose you think they're not very manly words though…" she added the last bit as a sort of afterthought. "But I mean, I think you can be sweet and adorable and handsome all at the same time." Not that he got any say in what she called him at all. "Besides, you blush really easily too."

S'van's eyes widened at the implication that she intended for things to go further at some point. Maybe she hadn't meant it, but it definitely made him yelp. ... Well, internally mostly. Not aloud, thankfully. "Uhh. Yeah, we should be friends first." Oh Shards. She didn't mean anything by it, did she? "Sweet and adorable and handsome-- ... I have a dimple?" It seemed that Nan was far too overwhelming. He couldn't quite manage to finish his sentences. He really couldn't. S'van, will she pinch my cheeks? the dragonet inquired worriedly, not keen on the idea of affection being expressed in that manner.

What an expression on his face! Nandeli giggled to herself, idly wondering if she should relieve him of his torment or simply let him think she had meant something by it. Nah, she'd just let it go. Besides, he'd probably forget it once he started working with his dragon. That tended to make people forget about a lot of things. She had to resist the urge to ruffle his hair at his question, and simply folded her arms over her chest. "Yes, yes, yes and yes! I think it's pretty unanimous. You don't think so? Though you probably just want to be called ruggedly handsome or something, don't you?" She supposed he was handsome in his own way, but she liked sweet and adorable much better.

Ruggedly handsome, hmm? "Maybe I would prefer that. Knowing you, Nan, you wouldn't call me it anyway." No, Nan seemed far more likely to stick with words like 'adorable' and 'sweet'. Heh. Sweet and adorable? Who was she trying to fool? He wasn't remotely sweet, and adorable was definitely not a word that he cared to be associated with. "Honestly, what does a man have to do around here to get any respect?" he grouched half-heartedly, somewhat distracted from his playfulness by the sick guilt that permeated his interactions right now.

"Weell…. I suppose since you are sweet and adorable I might just be able to oblige you this one request. And I mean you do most certainly have the body to fit…." Should she say something about his baby soft skin? Nah. She didn't want to totally overkill him, not tonight anyways. Maybe once his dragon was better settled she could go back to her usual job of 'make S'van's life interesting'. Or something like that. With Nan, you could never really be sure what she was trying to do.
At his question she merely stuck out her tongue, and countered, "What does a girl have to do around here to get a smile?"
