The sun was covered by a mass of grey clouds, not dark enough to rain at the moment. Icarus loved flying in this weather, especially with the wind blowing as it was. It required the most strength, but that was the fun of it. Icarus flew just under the thick overhang of clouds for quite a while, slowing at any break in the clouds to remain in the sun's heat for a few moments, before continuing.
Eventually, fatigue caught up with the high-flying Modiphim, and he was forced to land. Icarus landed in a forest, folded his wings behind him and ran a short distance to a lake he had seen while he had been flying. Finally reaching the edge of the clearing, Icarus stretched his wings again as he walked calmly to the edge of the water to take a drink and rest a little.

Wings... They were the first thing to catch the eye of the red and blue vixen laying at the base of a tree near a fairly small lake. She had first seen the winged Modifox fly overhead, though she didn't consider the possibility of it deciding to land and come to this small body of water. Despite the fact that Namida wasn't particularly fond of company, but the wings of this fox drew her attention.
Her curiosity got the better of her and she stood up, sauntering over to this very different fox. He sort of reminded her of snow and fire, with the different shades of red, orange, and yellow decorating some parts of his pelage and white dominating the rest of it. The areas of black reminded her of smoke and ashes. Two completely different things, exact opposites.
Namida came within a metre of this fox, a twinge of envy prodding at her heart. Oh, how she would have loved to have the ability to fly...

The Modiphim's ear twitched as Icarus vaguely noticed the approach of another fox. Without glancing up, he looked across the water and saw the reflection of a small red vixen with dark blue eyes. She wasn't a meter away, it seemed. She had dark blue down her back and tail, and light blue in stripes on her legs. It was strange, the mix of the two colors. Red and blue weren't typically found together. Icarus found, however, that he liked the combination of colours on her fur.
Icarus finally stopped his examination of the vixen through the water and looked up to face her. "How long have you been there?" He impulsively spoke his question, forgetting any formalities at the moment. It was a surprise he hadn't noticed her before. She seemed to stand out from the emerald green forest behind her. Icarus streached his wings momentarily, before folding them back up at his sides. He also wondered what had compelled the vixen to approach him in the first place. She hadn't even started a conversation or anything of the sort.

Her gaze shifted from his pelage and wings to his eyes, which were a deeper red than the fiery colours of his fur. She blinked her eyes, which were the opposite colour. Her eyes, a deep, cool shade of cerulean blue, blinked once at his question. She looked over her shoulder and gestured to the spot she had been laying at with a wave of her tail. “Quite some time, actually.” She responded, shifting her gaze back to the male Modiphim across from her. “I saw you fly overhead not too long ago. I did not think you would descend and come this way.” She added with a shrug. Her tail gently swayed back and forth, grazing the surface of the water.
After the ripples had calmed, Namida looked down at the crystalline water and her prominent reflection. She winced with a feeling of self-disgust that had originated from the depths and crevices of her mind. She had no idea why she felt so mediocre to this winged Modifox, but she did either way. Perhaps it was because he had wings? She shrugged and dismissed the thought. Best not to think of those things with company, no matter how much she may have detested the presence of others. “I’m Namida, may I ask your name?”

Icarus glanced in the direction Namida indicated to with her tail. He then looked up at the cloudy sky. Sure enough, he could see where he had been flying only moments ago. The 'Phim's attention was claimed by the vixen's movement of her tail. He watched as it momentarily skimmed the water.
Icarus looked back at the vixen as she spoke again, this time introducing herself. "Namida," he repeated for the sake of his own memory. Then he replied, "My name is Icarus." He examined her more as he gave his own name. Icarus wondered what the vixen was thinking. He knew well enough it wasn't every day one ran into a Modiphim. Then again, maybe Namida had met others before. Perhaps Icarus wasn't very astonishing to her. "Have you ever met another 'Phim before?" Icarus blurted out. Thankfully it had been one of the more polite questions running through his brain at the moment.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Icarus." Namida stated with a respectful nod. She shook her head in response to his subsequent question. "I have not met another 'Phim, although, I have met a 'Daeva or two." She replied. "I have heard of your kind before, just never encountered such a being as yourself." She added with a shrug. Her eyes scanned him over, paying specific attention to his wings. She examined the two extremities closely, admiring each individual feather. "I do find wings quite fascinating... What is it like to fly?"

"A few 'Daeva's, hmm?" Icarus replied, though more to himself than Namida. "That must have been a pleasant experience." So it seemed Namida had heard as much about 'Phims as Icarus had with 'Daevas. As Namida spoke again, Icarus glanced at his own wings, as it seemed the vixen was examining them. At her question, he glanced at her before looking up at the sky. Icarus had a wistful smile on his face as he answered. "Put simply, it's the greatest feeling ever," he replied. "If there is anything I feel strongly for, it's flying. Invigorating, freeing, exciting. All of those adjectives and many more can describe the feeling."

Namida nodded, her gaze falling to the floor as she fell deep into thought. "I can only imagine." She stated, although it was a lie. She would never feel the exhilarating feeling of flying that Icarus described, nor could she begin to imagine it. She assumed Icarus would never know the feeling of being grounded; to never be able to fly at all, not even at a whim. A sigh escaped her, her tail ceasing its waving motion, no longer agitating the water. He had been graced to have such an ability at his disposal. She could not help but feel a twinge of jealousy tugging at her being. "You are lucky to be able to fly. I only wish I could myself." She said with a bit of a shrug. "Most of the 'Daevas I've met... Well, with them I find their gift quite... Under-appreciated."

Icarus shrugged at Namida's comments about the devillish breed of foxes. "I suppse the 'Daeva's have other unique abilites that they seem to care more about," he said in response. Icarus examined the vixen once again, he didn't know why he was doing that so often. The 'Phim wasn't sure, but he thought she seemed... bitter, maybe? It seemed she really wanted to know what it was like to fly. "I can't blame you for wanting to fly as much as you do. It's very important to me, that's for sure." Icarus glanced over her again, this time sizing her up. An idea had just struck him, but he was still debating with himself whether to bring it up or not.
Eventually, one side of the battle won, and Icarus looked back at Namida to adress her again. "I guess I could..." Icarus started, "allow you to hop on my back and we could fly around..." A large part of Icarus assumed she would jump at the offer. The smaller part had it's doubts, but that was expected. "I'm sure I'll be able to carry you and everything," he decided to add reassuringly.

Namida knew better than to spring at him and smother him with appreciation like a kit would do, but she couldn't help but smile a bit. She never was really fond of most, but she found herself liking this certain male Modiphim more than... More than anyone else, perhaps. "I would love that." She finally said. She took a cautious step towards him, waiting to see if he actually meant that. Quite frankly, she knew better than to lunge on his back, no matter how gleeful she may be. Her tail wagged slowly, her blue eyes still examining the 'Phim before her. She bit her lip as a sudden wave of anxiety washed over her. The dangers of flying suddenly hit her. What if Icarus did drop her? What if she strained him and they both fell? Her stomach twisted with these thoughts.

Icarus smiled when Namida finally responded. "Great!" He said as he lowered himself enough for her to hop on. After waiting a moment for her Icarus noticed she had stopped moving after only a step. He looked over her face, noticing something was wrong. "What's the matter?" He asked, a worried tone evident in his voice. Icarus examined her features again, he could only think of one reason she would be hesitant. "Are you afraid I'm going to drop you or something?" He asked. "There is really no need to think that." Icarus tried to sound reassuring. "I fly all the time, I have the strength and stamina to carry you for quite some time."
Icarus wasn't sure his words would help any. Quite frankly, he had never before considered carrying any other fox. He was sure it would be easy, but couldn't tell Namida that he knew from experience. "If it would make you feel more comfortable, we could find a big lake and I could fly you over that," he suggested. "Or we could just stay closer to the ground." Honestly, Icarus preferred his first option. At least he could fly a little higher with the water cusioning any potential falls. Icarus still didn't think it was necessary, but if it would soothe Namida's troubled mind, he was alright with either idea.

Namida shook her head with every one of the Modiphim's proposals. "It's just me, really. The feeling has passed." She was undeniably reassured with his words and continued her way toward him. When she reached him, she hopped upon his back, her head near his neck. He was extremely warm, warmer than she thought he would be. She wondered how warm the Modidaevas were, such as Miathan, Mykonice, and Osoreru, the ones she had met. She sighed, letting her muscles relax. "Thank you." The vixen said, her tail gently brushing against his right flank.

"Well, alright then," Icarus said. He didn't mind, as long as she was okay with it. The 'Phim wanted her to be safe, but at the same time he wanted her to see that flying was just as incredible as he described and more. He waited until Namida was resting comfortably against his back before standing up straight and spreading his wings to their fullest.
"Ready?" Icarus asked her rhetorically. Without waiting for an answer, he kicked off the ground, flapped his wings, and slowly rose into the air. Normally he would simply shoot upwards, but carrying a passenger made that both difficult and dangerous. Instead, Icarus gained altitude by flapping his wings.
Above the canopy of the trees, the Modiphim beat his wings, shooting forward. They soared above the forest occasionally moving higher as they went.

Namida tensed as he took off, but almost instantly relaxed when they were soaring through the air. She breathed in the cleaner, crisper air, and felt the true exhilaration of flying. Oh, how much she envied the 'Phim already and now she envied him even more for being able to always have this sensation whenever he pleased. And now she knew why Modidaevas mocked the normals for not being able to fly. It was one of the few things they had every right to do.
"I love it!" She yelled over the wind, hoping Icarus could hear her.

"I'm glad, now hold on tight!" Icarus yelled back. He leaned forward, flying faster as he grew accustomed to flying with Namida on his back. They flew straight through a low cloud, dampening them. Icarus laughed; he loved doing that. He glanced back at Namida to make sure she was alright. "You're not freezing, are you?" He asked over the sound of the rushing wind.
