Something was going to have to be done about this. It was unacceptable. Her bangs were now well past her shoulders! She looked like some kind of ghost; her long, dark hair spilling over her face like that. Well, the solution was easy enough.
Scissors and the bathroom mirror. She’d leave the door open, just to irritate Varu. Heck, she doubted he’d even come upstairs if he knew she’d see him. The man had been avoiding her like the plague-- all because of a love confession which he rejected.
If he honestly thought that it was a confession of sibling affection, there would be no need to avoid her. He knew the truth-- he couldn’t be that stupid.
Still!! She focused, glaring through her hair at the mess that was reflected in the mirror. It was bad enough when it was shoulder length-- now that her hair reached her mid back, it was maddening. After only a few days, she had quickly come to realize that long, curly hair was hell. Things got caught in it, she got tangled onto things, and she often would shut a door on her own hair! The final straw had been when she found a cat toy wrapped in it-- no doubt Sydni had made sport of throwing things into her hair. No, it definitely had to go.
So-- scissors. She snipped at the air a few times experimentally. They seemed to work okay. And while she didn’t have any skills in styling… Well, it was just like cutting paper, right? All you had to do was cut in a strait line, right?
….Right?

He had to admit, he still wasn't being all that fair to Tepin. But it was so strange; seeing this young woman instead of a young girl, with her mixed up feelings. It was awkward. So yes, he made excuses. Many excuses to duck out of the room, or make himself scarce. He didn't quite know how to handle this new Tepin.
He could still pick her up. But would that be appropriate, now that she was a young lady? He could still ruffle her hair - but it was long and pretty now, not meant to be messed up. It was so different. He'd never handled a teenage girl, before. But could he consider her one? He knew how old she really was.
But then again, could he even consider himself a child anymore? Despite the lack of years of experience and growth, he certainly didn't feel like an eleven-year-old. Somewhere along the line they lost that, or it got mixed up and confused.
Still, her hair was pretty. He had to give her that. Vale had a liking for long hair. He'd enjoyed tugging at Quinn's (another stab of pain), and even now he had the itch to pull and play with hers.
He headed up the staircase. Maybe it was a thing with cats? Something about long hair.
Upon reaching the top of the stairs, he turned, and stared; in front of him was the bathroom. Inside the bathroom was Tepin.
On the floor was the long hair he was just thinking of, and her bangs resembled a trainwreck.
"Oh lord, v'hat did you do?" he asked in exasperation, face scrunching up in horror at the sight of so much mangled hair.

She wanted to play tough. She wanted to ignore him. She wanted to pull the ‘What do you care!?’ card.
But her hair was a mess!! Even she could see that!
“I cut my hair!!” It was a howl, a pained howl of regret. Really, honestly, she shouldn’t have tried it. “It’s hard!” As if that would somehow justify the monstrosity that was her bangs.
Her feet danced around the coating of hair that lined the bathroom floor, trying to get it to stop tickling her toes so bad. That wasn’t helping! It was hard enough to cut hair without the leftovers itching at your legs so bad! Strands had managed to get everywhere-- draped over her nose, curling around her neck and shoulders, she even had a lock that had gotten stuck on a belt loop of her pants.
It she had looked like a ghost before, now she was more of a “Cousin It.”

This was, this was--
He snorted, trying to turn a laugh into a cough, though it wasn't well disguised with the grin spreading along his lips. Cute. She was still really cute.
She was still his little cute stray.
Sighing in mock resignation, he let himself into the bathroom, brushing away the clips of hair with his hands and tail.
"V'ait right here." He left, briefly, and returned dragging his desk chair, setting that in the middle of the bathroom and motioning to it professionally while stealing the scissors out of her hands. "Sit. I v'ill fix this," he promised. "You are never to take scissors to your hair ever, ever again," he added more amusedly.
He pulled a towel off the rung, scissors at the ready.
Valeriu was no barber, and he certainly didn't take the time to cut his own hair properly, but he knew the basics. Which was more than Tepin knew. He didn't want her cutting off an ear.
He'd already had that experience. Nicking your ear was not fun. Not at all.

The bratty frown returned! How dare he laugh at her! She was only trying to be an adult, and do something by herself! “It’s not funny! It’s really hard!!”
It was a very sulky teen that sat in the chair. He thought he was so cool, just because he could cut hair! Of course it was easier to cut someone else’s hair. He wasn’t so cool! Her arms crossed in a huff-- it wasn’t fair! She could have fixed it! I-It wasn’t so hard she couldn’t have figured it out eventually! She was just…
Warming up! Yea! That’s it!
He was just a big dumb jerk!
“So you can still look at me.”
She stared at him defiantly from the mirror-- she wasn’t going to just sit down and take this treatment. Not after all the effort she had gone through before the growth. Things couldn’t stay the way that they were, not at all.

"Of course I can," he snarked right back, pulling the towel over her shoulders and tucking it loosely behind her, though his eyes stayed trained on the hair he was filtering through his fingers. It definitely needed his full attention. Curly hair was difficult to cut at the best of times. Obviously.
"V'hy v'ouldn't I be able to?"
And with how badly she'd shorn her bangs, he had to be extra careful. He began snipping, working around the original cuts she'd made and evening it out as best as he could.
But he didn't want to cut off all her hair. It was long. And pretty. So he compromised, sneakily, on his own, and left the untouched parts still long in the back.
All in all, it was shaping up much better, he decided, shaking his own bangs out of his eyes. If he'd had the time or inclination, he'd cut his own hair. After all, Quinn had commented on it-
He frowned. He was - was going to re-trim his hair, after what Quinn had said. This time, without a hand-made dagger. But now with it grown out so long, it didn't really matter, did it? Quinn would never see the new cut and compliment on it looking less uneven.
No. Quinn would never see it. And Valeriu was left with cold sighing and a hole where Quinn had been.
Stupid Quinn. Stupid blond idiot. But Vale couldn't blame him, couldn't even get angry at him.

“I dunno,” She shifted, trying to get a look at his face, and otherwise interrupting his cutting, “You tell me-- what’s the deal?”
Being avoided like this was annoying at best, infuriating at worst. That wasn’t the way that siblings were supposed to act, and yet he was the one that had told her that she was confused! It was stupid! Too stupid. He needed to make up his darn mind already!
She frowned, trying her hardest to sit still and get answers at the same time. It was proving to be much harder than she thought that it would be.

He frowned right back, trying to get her to stay still and let him cut.
"It's complicated," he muttered, trimming further and critically inspecting the curls. "I've never - never really dealt v'ith a young lady before."
He'd never really talked to teenage girls before. For some reason, words failed him around a pretty young lady. Little girls - fine. Older women - fine. But teenage girls?
Something about them made him nervous and clumsy. And blushing. Lots of blushing.
Like now.
"It's just different," he mumbled more defensively, resolutely keeping his eyes on hair and hair alone. "Now stop squirming, or I v'ill tape you down."

“There’s no difference! I just have boobies now, that’s all! I’m barely even taller, and I still don‘t have any powers!”
He was being stupid! He knew she was the same, he had to! Even if she looked different, she hadn’t changed at all on the inside. Really, the only true difference had been that she gained a little over a foot in height and several centimeters around her chest.
How was it that he had been so calm, so relaxed when he had changed, and yet the moment that she matured, he was completely distant?
“I wasn’t like this when it happened to you.”
No. She had been good. Kind. She had helped him, or so she liked to think. If only she could have the same treatment, then she’d have no complaints.

He was a child. A total child, if that word could send his face aflame.
That was - that was exactly what he hadn't wanted to be thinking about! Those. Those things.
His shoulders sunk lower. He couldn't even say it in his head.
But she was right. Too right. He was still being unfair. Sighing, he set the scissors down to wrap her in a hug, ruffling her now-shorter (for the most part) hair.
"I'm sorry, Tepin. I know. I don't mean to be." He really shouldn't be avoiding her. "I just v'asn't ready for you to...to grow up so fast."
No. He wasn't sulking that he didn't get those years to himself. That he didn't get to watch her turn ten, and eleven, and twelve and thirteen the normal, human way. He was kind of excited for it, really. Sydni wouldn't be hitting those years for a long, long time (or so he liked to think).

“Neither was I, “ She couldn’t help but frown, it really would have been better if she had just stayed nine years old, “But it’s kinda too late to worry about it now.”
The pout had returned as she squirmed, trying to get a look at his face. Only then did she realize the long, golden curls that were still attached to her head. He was supposed to be cutting those off!
“Hey!! Wait! Finish it! It’s too annoying like this!”
What was he trying to pull? That wasn’t fair! He didn’t have to deal with getting caught on stuff, he didn’t understand at all!!
“Just gimme the scissors! I’ll do it myself!”

That was about the time when he'd pushed the scissors far, far out of her reach, hugging on tighter.
"But I like it like this!" he asserted, puffing up protectively over those last long strands. He'd trimmed the rest of her hair evenly - couldn't she grant him this? "It's long, and pretty," he elaborated.
He tugged at the curls. They made him inexplicably happy.
"Really long," he added, elaborating further. He tugged more, ran his fingers through them. Maybe batted at the ends a bit.
Had he known his tail was swishing like some fool cat, he would've knocked that off.

“But I keep closing doors on it!” She whined, giving a pouty puppy-eyed look in his direction, “And Sydni keeps throwing stuff in it!!”
But-- he looked so happy! And he was talking to her normally! Heck, he was even complimenting her! Her face blushed, ever so slightly. Okay… maybe that made her happy!
“Fiiiiiine.” She feigned defeat, leaning back more comfortably in his desk chair, “But only because you said all that! If you start avoiding me again--”
A snipping motion with her fingers demonstrated her intent.
“Then it’s bye-bye hair!

He was pleased. He had won the Battle of the Hair, and could now more freely run his hands through it without fearing for its life. He may or may not have been purring to his black heart's content.
"Okay," he acceded more than happily, trying the strands back into a loose braid. "I think v'e are all done v'ith the scissors for the day, da?"
He pushed them farther away. She would have no chance to change her mind.
No chance.
Someone in this family was required to have long hair for him to play with.

“Fine--” She had to admit, so long as she was spoiled like this, she could tolerate having long, hellish hair-- the feeling of his fingers running through it was heavenly. Until, of course, they’d reach the unavoidable tangles that curly hair always seemed to have.
“Oh, Hey!” She was wriggling free now, trying to avoid the spills of hair that had taken over the bathroom floor, “Lemme go to work, again. I can help now.”
She wanted the money, more than anything. And to see the look on the twins’ faces when they saw her. That was a reward in and of itself.
That... And Tepin had realized quite early on that she needed a bra.
