Gerda moved slowly across the ground, her paws dragging a little bit due to being exhausted. Sure, being pregnant had made her tired before, but she had figured it was because she'd been a young mother without any help! Not now, she had her wonderful sister and Tauro's little tagalong, Seiphyr. It was like a little happy family. A happy family that her pups would be born into...

Gerda smiled, the dragon on her back rippling as she moved. She came to a stop by the riverside, lapping up the cool water, her tail hanging quietly between her thighs. Only another month or so before the babies would come. Still she was rounded. She wondered how many was in there, worried she might give birth to a litter too big to nurse... She pushed the fear away, determined to deal with it only when the time came.

Patches stood or rather sat on his haunches off in the woods by himself. He had finally healed from the journy he had taken to rescue the little pup that had taken to calling him 'Grampa'. He wasn't really that old he thought to himself. Six was a rather good age for any animal- though then again didn't wolves live less then dogs? Dogs had masters to care for them...and wolves had enemies. Lots of enemies. Though he didn't mind the nickname, he loved Alina with all his heart. Even if it wasn't romantic. And no matter how old she became he would always protect his little charge from harm.

He wrapped his tail quitely around his paws and thought about her when she was a pup. It was prehaps the only few happy memories he had- well those aside when he thought he was a dog. He had a master, a warm fireplace, all the food he could eat. It was ashame that his parents had caused him to be a half and half. Though he never held it agaist himself or them. Love was love and he was enjoying what he felt was his youth. Strange beings these wolves were. He thought so differently of them before- before he figured out he was one.

Gerda lifted her head from drinking, giving a wide yawn, before falling into step once more. She padded down the slender path leading through the forest and into the field.

She had never given a thought to the tamed dogs of Telk before. There wasn't a reason for her to. They were humanized wolves without any sense of direction, she felt. They let the two-legs put collars around their necks as tokens of their possession.

Gerda growled softly, seeing something black and white and red in the near distance. Her tail lifted and slowly she slunk forwards, watching the stranger with such uncertainty in her silvery eyes.

He looked like a freaking dog...

Patches yellow eyes looked up and caught site of the wolfess. He was also keen to notice that she looked with puppies. He tipped his nose to her in polite greeting as he would have done with anyone. Manors for him was a way of life. This could have been the dog side of him- trained and well to do waiting for master. But he didn't feel like her was forced to do it. It was something he wanted to do. Politness would get you anywhere in life- agression...mounted on sombodies wall.

"How do you do miss?" His lip curled into a small smile. But the happyness had gone from his face many moons ago. What was left of him was a hollow shell. And since then he had been trying to figure out who he was and what his purpose was. Not a dog, or a wolf. Where did he belong in this world. It seamed that neither side wanted this humbling old man- even though he had to yet again tell himself he wasn't old and it was mearly something that pleagued his mind since crossing over to his wild side.

"Am I in your way?" He asked as if he wouldn't give hesitation to move if she willed it.

Somewhere along the line Gerda had found herself near one of the villages. She'd seen the sheer obedience of the wolf-related hounds. The way they wagged their tails at the sight of their human. The way their ears focused on only him. Like he was their god...

What was this dog doing in wolf territory? Where was his human? Perhaps they'd gotten separated.

She looked at him, almost concerned. The bandanna around his neck was tattered and old. Perhaps he was tattered and old as well.

Either way, he had manners... As he dipped his head to her, she flicked her ears back. She tested the air. He smelled musty. Male. Her lip rose slightly, as well as her hackles. She forced both down. She shook herself slightly, then padded forwards, watching him for any sign of movement.

I am fine, she wanted to say. You are fine too.

Instead she offered him a nod and smiled. A forced smile, an uncertain smile. But a smile.

Again the wolfdog didn't relinquish his spot. She didn't give any indication that she had wanted him to move. And from gaze of her eyes looked as if she would be more content if he didn't. So he only wrapped his tail further about his front toes greatful that she would let him stay in her presence. Again his head seamed to dip down lower then before. He wanted to make sure that she knew that he would mean her no harm.

"Might a whithered old man like me be graced with your name?" He again tried to be polite not glancing into her eyes even once. He would only if she allowed it. He thought about the males he had met before. Raunchy and disgusting. Taking there females for granted. Biting them in places they didn't ask for. No Patches was nothing like that. Female were gifts from god and they should be treated as such. Protected and shown loyalty. Patches would do so if asked. He was chilverus and kind.

"I'm Patches. I hail from the farmlands of Telk."

Gerda took two more paces towards him, then promptly sat down, her own tail wrapping around her legs in a serpentine way. Getting a closer smell, she breathed in the air around her, taking in the proximity of him.

He smelled like dirt and rain and wolf and dog and not like people at all. Perhaps he was indeed stranded away from his human. Gerda's lip rose. She would be no one's canine. It was obvious by the sight of his bandanna that he had been one once.

She nodded, then paused. Gerda. Her name was Gerda. That's what her mother called her. That's what her sister called her. That was her name. She shook her head slowly, then sighed. Damn it all.

Patches. What a...suiting name for the male. She stood and stepped closer to him, pawing at the earth. Her claws dug in, forming a halfhearted G-E-R-D-A. Gerda. She looked pleased with herself as she nosed the words.

He watched her carefully threw his lowered muzzle and cocked his head ever so slighty as she seamed not to speak a word. She only drew closer- close enough that she was now scribbling something in the dirt infront of him. At first he wasn't really sure what it was, but then he remebered his human and how he used to write. "Gerda?" He said quitely as to not startle her. "It's a lovely name for a lovely wolfess." Again he tried to push a smile forward but his heart was to hardened for that.

He then drew back once more he didn't want to give the female that he was flirting with her. His mind seamed to flush forth with thoughts about courting. He just wanted to make her comfortable. He had no intentions of taking a mate or even having children. He hoped he hadn't given her the wrong impression and he hoped that he wouldn't offend her mate. Which he hoped would treat her well for her sake. He tried to change the subject being a bumbling old fool around anyone that wasn't his Alina.

"No I don't have humans...you don't have to worry. I am safe to be around." He some how thought those might have been the perfect words to coax out a few from her. Most saw him as an extention of the human world- but he had given up on those days a long time ago. He was wild now, and though he missed being a pet; he'd miss it more if he wasn't free to be his ownself.

Yes. Gerda! Her silver gaze lit up like a flame, tail wagging twice. She watched him, even as he spoke, his words strange. Not strange words themselves, but strange that they could come from a...male. Sure, she'd heard them before. Coming from Siren, the male who had sired the babies stirring in her belly. He had promised her the world.

And she had run from him. Perhaps she was just afraid of the y chromosone. Perhaps Tabansi had ruined her. The only boy she felt comfortable being with was her own son, Akiva, who she hadn't seen in a year or two. Not since he was a young teen himself.

No humans. Did he once have them? She tilted her head to one side, smiling wider. She nodded, showing she understood. But how to make him understand that she couldn't speak, even if she was dying to.

She leapt to her feet, circled him once, then stamped a foot on the ground. Meeting his gaze, she threw her head back and let loose a silent howl. Her throat made a squeaking noise. It sounded like a dying animal. She looked pointedly back to him with an expression on her face that read 'See?'

His eyes now met hers half way. Patches body still lowered to be respectful. He watched as she seamed to move about trying to communicate in her own way. Again his head seamed to raise ever just so slighty curious by her every action. From the look of it she was trying to say she couldn't speak...but Patches had never been to great at interpertations.

"I get it now...your howl is gone from you." His head dropped again so that his eyes were still stuck on the words that were written into the ground. He hoped he was right so he didn't offend her. Shame the dog in him made him so obedient at times. It was rather sickening to him that he couldn't hold his head up high like a wolf. And though he tried something felt wrong when he went about it. Like he wasn't allowed to be blessed with such confidence. He still had dog blood corsing threw his viens after all.
