Just a reminder- I have a 9 month old baby girl. She has 2 bottom teeth, has had them since the beginning of August. She is getting 2 teeth up top. One on the side and the middle. So starting this morning she bit me!! And has bit me everytime since then when Ive nursed her. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to help her to stop? Anything that worked for you?
Ive cried out everytime she does it and she reacts by crying. She seems startled but also seems to understand something bad happened she just doesnt know what. Ive heard a suggestion of flicking her cheek and going to the LaLeche League site it says how to tell if she is 'slipping off' and to put your finger in her mouth to latch off but Im wondering if that will actually teach her?
Also when you went through this do you remember how long you had to deal with it? For days? A week? (much crying ensues thinking about this being a possibility crying ). And how did you deal with it besides crying alot? I bought some Lansinoh cream and am hoping that will provide some comfort but it just hurts SO bad after and it hurts for awhile. Im considering getting out her old bottle nipples and seeing if I can fit one over my n****e so when she bites it wont hurt as bad. I just dont know if she will be able to get the milk out that way. But I gotta try something!!
Ok I will shut up now. HELP!!

Okay, I feel a little weird giving advice about this, but... when my wife was pregnent with our daughter I went with her to the maternity store. There among other things I saw n****e guards. Sounds weird, but it's the truth. They were plastic covers, sort of n****e shaped, with holes in the front. I can't tell you if they work, but I can at least let you know that they do in fact exist.
Edit - My wife tells me it was the nursing-bra store sweatdrop

One of my twins was a difficult nurser and it got worse when he started teething. My LLL friends said to bring him in closer to block off his air so he was forced to open his mouth. It didn't work as I am small breasted. so I pinched his nose shut, not always practical when nursing two at once, but it did work. The first time he did it it startled me so much, my instictive reaction was to lightly swat him in the head like a mosquito. I felt so horrible when i did! but it startled him too, enough to stop biting for that session. but i always talked to him and told him that hurt mami, ouchies, whatever, and he understood. The worst later on was his slow, gradual pressure to where he left marks and raw spots. Lansinoh made a huge difference in healing. but i really had to focus on when he first started to put pressure on and tell him to stop. He's old enough now that i take the breast away from him when he bites. When he decides to be nice, i then give it back to him.

I just want to report that this biting incident was a one time thing and to my great joy has not happened since!!! This thread can be deleted and I wouldnt mind. I am nearing 12 months with my little one now and will be weaning (which makes me so nervous cuz Im really not sure how to do it!!!) so I wont have to worry about biting anymore!!!

I weaned my wee guy by just spacing out feedings until he only nursed as part of a ritual time-with-Mommy thing. Then I started trying to *just* read to him and get him interested in the pictures. Since he couldn't nurse and be nosy at the same time, it turned into just storytime. I don't know if that's the normal way to wean - he really is a very well-behaved child.
I agree with Black Presea about pinching the nose of a biter too. That really did work best for me as well. Any kind of reprimand or tap on the face just made my son so upset he'd clench his jaw...while nursing... crying
