Welcome to the Discussion Thread. Here, we will talk over aspects of the game, our characters, and the story. Important Terms (I will add to this list over time) The Bull of the North - Yurgen Kaneko, an Icewalker tribesman who Exalted as a Dawn-Caste Solar. He united many of the tribes and forged them into a weapon of conquest. His armies conquered several nations in the North-East and defeated 5 Realm Legions belonging to House Tepet. Icewalkers - The nomadic tribes that inhabit the taiga of the central North. Many tribes now follow Yurgen Kaneko. Halta - This large nation in the far North-East has been at war with the Linowan for centuries. They are allied with the Bull, and are providing the bulk of the occupation forces for Rokan-Jin. Their military is not well trained for fighting outside of forests, but they can call upon Fair Folk, beastmen, God-bloods, and intelligent animals for aid. Rokan-Jin - A small nation to the south of the Linowan, it was conquered by the Icewalkers and Haltans. It is known for its mineral wealth. A small resistance movement seeks to rescue its imprisoned queen and free their country. The Linowan - A confederation of river tribes, the Linowan are allies of the Realm and Rokan-Jin, but bitter enemies with Halta. When the Bull invaded, they tried to defend their neighbors, but were no match for the might of their Exalted foes. Whitewall - Though smaller than its neighbors in terms of population, this Northern city-state is a prosperous and safe trading hub. It is ruled over by a triumvirate of gods, who govern it fairly and justly. The Haslanti League - Surrounding the White Sea are several city-states that have forged a close-knit confederation. The Haslanti maintain excellent trade routes, and have a formidable military, made possible by their rediscovery of lighter-than-air vessels and steel-bladed iceships. Topics of DiscussionFor our first topic of discussion, I'd like to know your thoughts on the following story start: Quote: The story begins in a small village on the border of Rokan-Jin, where the player-characters have been brought together by a loose coalition of Northern factions. Certain, safely-anonymous officials from the Haslanti League, Whitewall, the Linowan, and others, have sent covert support to the Rokan-Jin resistance. If a powerful enough group could free Rokan-Jin from the Bull and his Haltan allies, the factions might be willing to openly discuss an alliance. Until then, they don't dare to make any antagonistic moves, for fear of the Icewalkers attacking. The resistance members have led the PCs to their local hideout, and are ready to brief them on the state of Rokan-Jin's occupation. Each player is encouraged, but not required, to give a brief background/explanation of how and why their character arrived here. Were they sent by a party that they are loyal to? Did they come for their own reasons, and conveniently found the Resistance? Did some organization promise them a reward for aiding in this task? Complaints, questions, or suggestions?

Testing...
*Edit: My work often blocks sites of threads of a certain nature, had to make sure before I really posted something longer. But on to serious stuff.
There will not be any hidden agendas among those they gather? They know they are gathering Celestial Exalts or just an army of able-bodied mercenaries?

I'd like to check whether or not *we* know we're Solar Exalts, especially those of us with 0 dots in Mentor.

GS Sailor Saturn I'd like to check whether or not *we* know we're Solar Exalts, especially those of us with 0 dots in Mentor. Or anybody who doesn't have some combination of points in cult, lore or any other ability/background that could represent this. My character has a 4 dot mentor who is a decently high-essence god. I also have significant occult and lore ratings. So suffice it to say, I will be covered. With high mental traits and decent performance ratings, my character will also be thoroughly equipped to inform the others about their "condition".

Fluffy is covered, mix of Cult and Lunar Reputation...although it'd be hilarious to have a Solar try to inform a Lunar, that he beleives is a Solar, of her "condition".

My default assumption was that every player-character already knows that they are Solar Exalted, though how much they actually know about what a Solar Exalt is supposed to be, would likely depend upon Lore, Occult, Mentors, etc.
As for the Resistance and their shadowy backers, it can be assumed that the Northern factions are aware that their chosen envoys (if any of you choose to be said envoys) are Celestial Exalted, or at least that many of those gathering at this place are. By default, you can assume the Resistance thinks you are simply a powerful God-blood come/sent to their aid. However, if your character wishes to reveal their nature, the Resistance will be even happier about their chances for success.
Aside from your definite allies (The Resistance, their anonymous supporters), maintaining a low profile is advised, if only because a large gathering of powerful beings will attract the Bull's immediate attention. However, I know that not every member of the group is capable of being low-key.
For that reason, it might serve the group's interests (and ease play) to split up and hit two separate objectives. One as a diversion, and the other to carry out a major operation, such as the aforementioned rescue attempt.
I would also like to mention that Seph Baelzara, one of our prospective players, has been out of contact for a while, and will probably not be joining us.

Iron Soul tried once to approach the Bull and talk with him about his tactics, about how he should avoid replacing the Dragon Blooded as the next oppressor. Due to a lack of social ability, he failed. So he needed to try and find a different way. Thinking, and thinking, and analyzing he determined the only way was to bring the Bull down...as much as he would hate it, taking arms against another Solar.
So he began to search for those who are going against the Bull...a search that due to a lack of social skills was difficult. Either people tried to kill him for rising against the realm or they were unwilling to talk. But finally he found the resistance, or rather they probably found him due to the fact that he is not particularly subtle at times.

Perfected Immance of The Glorious Fall is there to decide if she's choosing a side at all; her 'reputation', as such, is that of a folk legend- not a god exactly- more of a saint. She is known to be a celestial exalted more or less widely, but part of her Dogma is that she is an 'Anathema among Anathema', which has more or less confused the Wyld Hunt (since she's still alive).
She is aware of her anture, and of Sol Invictus, but has been forced to largely invent precisely what that means in practice.
She is attempting not to hold an opinion on the occupation until she has sufficient information to make an informed decision.

Excellent, those are exactly what I was looking for in terms of how characters arrived in this situation. If no one has any problems with this starting point for the story (if you do, then please post them), then I will post a new question for discussion momentarily. Player UpdateIn other news, I was recently contacted by both Seph Baelzara, and The Lobster Queen. Both will, for different reasons, be forced to bow out of this game, but we still have 7 players remaining. I have character sheets and backgrounds from the following people so far: Abel Caldeira Arthera Cogwheel GS Sailor Saturn Nightstriker Sprainogre and magefrog3 are working on their characters right now. There is still time for revisions and modifications to your characters, so don't feel like they are set in stone now that they've been sent in to me.

By the way; bonus points spent on Abilities grant dots in addition to the standard twenty-eight, rather than allowing the twenty-eight standard dots to be spent to raise an ability above three; correct?

The points given at creation are used to buy dots UP TO 3. Bonus points allow a player to go above 3 in an ability. Only favored abilities cost 1:1 bonus point to boost at creation. Un-favored cost 2:1 bonus points per dot.

Bonus points don't have to be spent on raising abilities to above 3, if you wanted a few more 2's and 3's, you can spend them on that, too.
