My betta (Who I got last week) has been doing just fine. Yesterday he seemed a little stressed, was hiding a lot, but now he's out in the open again playing with his reflection. But I noticed that his tail is frayed, it's got one long cut in it and a couple of smaller cuts gonk I'm not sure if it's because of the new plants I put in there, (They passed the panty-hose test!!) or what... How long does it take to heal? Should I put some Melafix into his water? sweatdrop

ok
first
take a deep breath XD he will be perfectly fine. it was probably the plants. i think a bettas fins are more delicate than panty hose. i have had betta practically DESTROY their whole tails but it eventually grew all back
so a few frays arent gonna do much

just keep an eye on it and make sure it either gets better or stays the same. if it gets worse and the frayed parts look dark it may actually have fin rot

fish are VERY fast healers so as long as you keep the water clean he will be fine and heal quickly

melafix is for open wounds. if you feel like you MUST add something add some stress coat

Sorry, first time owning a betta and I always feel guilty if a fish dies. lol sweatdrop
He's acting very lethargic and hiding behind stuff and just being all lazy. It's making me feel sad and lazy, too, considering I liked watching him.
He even quit making his bubble nest and didn't eat last night when I fed him.

What does fin and tail rot look like? Is it a splotchy blackness?

how often do you change the water? and what do you treat it with?
has he always been shy? or is he NOW becoming shy? did you change his food?

I changed it about four days ago, on Tuesday. I use Aqua Plus tap water conditioner. I have PRIME too, but I use that for my 88 gal.

Sometimes he's active and then he just hangs out in the little rock formation or behind plants.

I just got a little filter from Doctor's Foster & Smith website, and it's an amazing little filter. It doesn't make a current and it was really cheep and very very quiet. His next water change is next Tuesday. I read that you should change it once a week if it's filtered (since it's a small tank)

This is the filter I bought: AZOO Pam filter It's amazing. I actually got up last night to make sure it was still working it's so quiet XD

He's in a 6 gallon with 3 little neon tetras. The suvivors that weren't eaten gonk The filter is really small and doesn't create a current.

i think that tank is too small for him and the tetras
tetras should be kept in groups of like 6-10 and you cant keep that many in that small a tank
they should be moved to a bigger tank and more should be added so they will be happier ^^

It's only right now until I can get rid of my fish that eat them gonk
I used to have 7 in my 55g but 4 got eaten.
He seems fine with them.
