Self RP Log: _ p a o cx Today he was alone - again. By now the crimson pelted juve was used to it, so instead of the former frown that would be on his maw he wore a more neutral sort of expression. Phaethon gave a yawn, wiping the water from his eyes afterward. He'd gotten a lot of sleep the night before, but believe or not boredom for him is exhausting. Mentally, for the most part, since it brings out his whole other side of him that isn't present when he's with others. His twitch also comes about, but luckily it hadn't been that long since he was left alone.
"More friends would be nice, I think.." he mused, kicking a pebble from one paw to the next. "But then it means I'd have to get used to having company? Maybe.."It'd been a few hours since Tumaini had gotten back to the pride. She already reported to the Mwezi, Moto, and was ready to leave again. No one in the pride actually knew who she was, and it was too risky to run into any of them, so to relax she had a tendency to skirt the borders of the pride. It was far enough from the heart of the pride where everyone was, but close enough to where she could go back without taking more than a few minutes if she ran. Along the way to her soon-to-be relaxing spot though, Mai caught sight of a young lion a small distance from the path she was currently taking. She recognized him as a current member of the pride, adopted son of the Mwezi. His name was unknown to her, of course.
Interaction was unavoidable in this situation, obviously because for one so young and inexperienced being this far away from many of the other members was dangerous. With that thought in mind, Mai made her way over, a kind yet disapproving look on her face.
"Hello there," she called while still at a safe distance. The last thing she wanted to do was scare the young one into scampering out into the roguelands, so it was best she approached slowly. "You know you shouldn't be this far away from the rest of the pride alone."A female voice interrupted him from his current thoughts, and Phae looked up to see a pale brown lioness approaching him. Her words confused him somewhat, since she sounded nice enough but it seemed like she was scolding him at the same time. He glanced around a bit and only then noticed exactly how far his little walk had gotten him. Upon that realization he gave small frown. "I know.." he muttered, though whether she heard his exact words he didn't know. He sure hoped not. The juve shuffled his paws a bit, the pebble forgotten, and looked down at the ground, a little embarrassed. "I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going. I didn't know I'd gotten this far.. ah, sorry.." he apologized, voice quiet and near inaudible.Mai sighed, shaking her head at his reply. Of course she'd run into a juve like this during one of the very few breaks she ever really got. Still, as one of the pride members, young ones were her responsibility as well. She couldn't, and wouldn't, leave the juve alone. "You should be more careful then, don't you think?" the femme said with a small frown. She took a seat right in front of him and used her paw to lift his head so she could see his face clearly. To her surprise he held the gaze well enough, and at that she smiled. Most, she expected, would've looked away after a few seconds, but his eyes stayed focused on hers. A good sign, no doubt.
"Might I ask your name?" she continued, taking her paw from underneath his chin. "I'm Tumaini, Mai for short."He was, of course, surprised when she suddenly lifted his gaze to meet hers. Phae was no coward though, so he forced himself to look right back at her, not wanting to avert his eyes in case she'd scold him about that too. It came as a sort of shock though, that what he saw didnt' reflect anger or anything of the sort. Instead he felt as though she was searching for something...but whatever it was, the juve was sure he didn't have it. There was nothing special about him, except maybe his weird visions. Those didn't seem like they were coming up this time around though.. thankfully.
After she let him go he tilted his head curiously at her question, not really wanting to answer since he didn't know who she was. Somehow a part of him said that it was alright, so after a moment more of hesitation he finally answered. "Um, Phaethon - Phae for short," and then his need to be polite came up. "It's nice to meet you Mai."

She nodded at his introduction, a small smile on her maw. He didn't seem the type to be lying, so the lioness figured she could let him off the hook this one time. "And you, Phae," she replied as she stood up again. "Anyway, I can't very well leave you out here on your own, so how about I go with you on your way back towards the others." It was more a statement than it was a question, and with that she started walking, scooting Phae onto his paws as she went. The rush was mainly because she wanted to go rest, and the longer she chatted with this juve the less likely that was going to happen. "C'mon then," she called, having already gotten a few feet ahead of Phae before looking back to see if he was actually following.
"I'll go about halfway with you, since that's close enough to at least be seen by most of the others. Then I'll be leaving again, alright?"
Phae was on his paws again, not quite sure how he'd gotten onto them, but followed closely as the female led him back to the pride's heart. His attention moments before he was swept into a standing position had been on the little pebble that he'd abandoned when Mai first showed up. In the rush he completely forgot about it, so instead he focused on the ground underneath him, idly listening to what she was saying. After her last statement the juve stopped walking, a little more confused than he'd been since he met her.
"I don't get it.." he said quietly, raising a brow yet again. "Why're you leaving?"
At his question the lioness sighed, not quite in the mood for answering any questions. To indulge him, though, and to keep suspicion down, she figured it would probably be best if she gave some sort of answer. "It's my duty to the pride," she said, and that was that. There was nothing more that needed to be said about it, really, since that was true enough albeit a little vague. "Just like yours is to not go wandering without an adolescent or adult with you." Mai grinned down at the juve, shaking her head a bit in slightly amusement.
At her joke the juve laughed a bit before shrugging. "I just wasn't paying attention," he replied, looking down a little dejectedly now. "It won't happen again, I promise.."
After a bit of silence between them Phae lifted his eyes so he could get a better look at Mai, a small smile forming on his maw. "Anyway, so what exactly is it that you do?" he asked, wanting to know more about this female. Now that he'd given it some thought, this was the first time he'd seen her at all since coming to the pride. He knew most of the others, their ranks and even their extended families to some degree, so it was a little weird for him to not have met her.. or heard of her, even.
She stopped walking when he asked his question, frowing a bit (though it wasn't directed at Phae). "That's something I can discuss only with our Mwezi," she said, her tone of voice dropping the subject. At that she looked down at the juve, scooting him forward a bit more again since he'd stopped walking as well. They'd already reached the halfway point, and had he been listening (which, from the look on his face he probably didn't) he would've known what that meant. "I can see the others well enough, so this is where we'll have to part ways for now I'm afraid."
She offered him a smile, then gave him one more little scoot before turning and walking in the other direction. "Don't go wandering again, Phae," she called back, turning to see if he'd started walking on without her. "I might not be there to guide you back you know.." And with that she faced forward, starting once again to head for her place of relaxation. If she was lucky she'd get there by sundown and could use nightfall as an excuse not to keep on moving.
She seemed to pause when he asked his question, which made him a little suspiscious. Once again, though, the thought was pushed to the back of his mind when she suddenly gave him a little push forward, though she didn't go on with him. He looked back at her, clearly still somewhat confused until she explained. Phae glanced at where the pride was settled on the lands and noticed that they were indeed close enough to be seen by all the others. After another little push Phae started walking on without her, glancing back to see if she was following or heading off in the other direction. When he saw that it was the former, he frowned a little, enjoying her company moreso than he ought to have been. He was lonely though, so anyone's company would've been nice to him..
When she called back he glanced to look at her one more time, staring for a moment as though it would help keep her image in his mind. It was at that point that a thought came to him, pushing all else aside. He remembered her.. though he wasn't sure from where exactly. On the rest of his little walk it was all he could think of. It would be until the next he saw her.. probably.
