No.
I believe that sexual orientation is determined after birth. People decide which they think is best for them based on different situations and experiences.
I've known plenty of people that have decided to change their orientation which, I think, disproves this theory.

What do you think?

I don't know if people are born gay or not. However, just because some people choose to be gay doesn't mean that's how it works for everyone. The evidence for one does not automatically invalidate the other. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Absolutely! I don't think people would chose to go through the hell that gays are put through. I mean come on, they can't get married (at least not where I live) they are CONSTANTLY called perverts, they are often disowned by their family, the church says they are going to hell if they don't change their sinful behavior (while ignoring their own behavior)

Do i need to go on?

Well, a person doesn't necessarily choose who they fall in love with. Saying that they were born that way is like saying that one was born loving a certain person. People grow into liking a person, again, through different circumstances.
It may seem like they can't help heir feelings, but I still don't believe they were born with these feelings.
Feelings change over time.

I'm gay, and I do not believe that I was born "this way". I'm not sure whether or not I believe that people are even born with sexual preferences at all. As a matter of fact, I can pretty much pinpoint WHY it is that I'm attracted to other women. *shrug* I think that the people who say that they are gay or straight or whatever from birth just haven't psychoanalized themselves... which isn't really a bad thing. Our expiriences make us who we are, as well as the environment we grew up in. This applies to gays as well as straights, and everything in between.

i beleive people are born the way they are, gay straight or bi. recent studies have shown a physiological difference in the brain which determines sexuality - try changing THAT by yourself razz

Ya, I think you have a physiological predisposition to everything in life. It's part of your personality and you can't change your personality, you can only control how much power it has over you and the choices you make with it.
I, myself, have never had a powerful sexual attraction to either sex. Even in my relationship I still don't.
But I could choose anything. How happy it makes me and how easy it is to accept that decision is up to my predisposition.

I think all of us are gay/lesbian, because you really cant help who you fall in love with, and if it just happened to be with someone of the same sex, that's how the dice rolled. Attraction and love, like real love, is not based on what gender or what a person looks like, but more on what their soul and heart contain.

Yeah, it actually is the person's choice to be straight or gay. They just make that choice when they are young and don't know it's wrong in other people's eyes.
My first crush was a girl. I found out that was wrong 5 years later and I still feel awful toward that. Especially from my best friend always picking on me for that. sweatdrop
But gee. I doubt its something to whine about...
lol she likes to argue about it!

captain isen
no.
i dont belive you are born with what "sex" you like. i belive whether you choose to be gay or not begins in the home an mostly comes from the parents or sometimes the schools. an how people say that gay is a sin in the cristian religion an others i dont belive so cause the bible says liking/loving another man is not but he only consiger the gay's unclean so they were banished from heaven so there is nothing wrong with being gay but no you are not born gay i think its all your choice...

Who are you, a straight person, to tell me, a gay person, what I have felt?
I grew up in the country, in a quiet town. I went to church, had a strict upbringing and my family and friends made fun of gays and openly resented them.
So, may I ask you, why at the age of 5 did I know I liked the same sex in a "different" way. At that age of course I had no idea what sex was, but I wasn't attracted to them physically (at least not until the teenage years) All I knew is that I had a different emotional attraction to them then all my other girlfriends had with each other.
How could a child choose?

For that matter, if us homosexuals "choose" our orientation, by theory you're saying so do heterosexuals.
So, do you remember how old you were when you DECIDED to like the opposite sex?
Didn't think so.
My brain is chemically different then yours causing me to find the same sex attractive.
I wonder how I did that by myself...

well i dont know how it works for lesbians but...
a gene has been found in a male homosexuals that differs from straight men. it was said to be linked many characteristics that alot of gay men share. For example the way they walk (kind of loosely) and the way they talk.
therefore, they must have been born that way. Though the environment can play a role, by keeping men that are supposed to be gay straight.
Also i know a man who grew up will two fathers and he is straight. the environment did not affect him to be otherwise.

Now how can one argue with science?

I believe that all people are born BISEXUAL. No one can say they are gay or straight untill they have had an experiance. After that experiance, they can look back and see how it made them feel, and this will be the ultimate determination of sexuality.

@Aserla: I hate to disagree with you on this, but I must. Our Genes determine WHAT we are, not WHO we are, and I view sexuality as a part of WHO we are. "WHAT we are never changes, WHO we are never stops changing."

I dont think the environment determined my gayness.
If someone changed orientations just like that, I think they're bi...
Yes, i chose who to love, but even if i try, falling for a girl would be fake and forced.
I dont think i have a gay gene, but i do believe i was meant to be gay xD like err destiny o.O which would be another debate xD
