In this issue of Air Action Weekly, we explore the lives of the vicious air pirates of the sky. Since 1931, these villainous men and women have crawled out from everywhere and anywhere, attacking shipping zeppelins left and right, looting and killing whenever they feel like it, even kidnapping, if it tickles their fancy. These seemingly random attacks have prompted the creation of many air militias, which help out the already overwhelmed armies of many of the nations of North America. These militias include famous aces like Loyle "Show Stopper" Crawford and Aaron "Easter" Whittacker, and will stop at nothing to remove this scourge from the skies, no matter where they are, from Pacifica down to the Confederation of Dixie. But there has been a rise recently in the number of pirates, increasing the need for more of these "sky police". It is an all out war up there for control of the shipping lanes, and only one side will remain when it is over. We here at AAW do not take sides, although if you ask around, many will side with the good guys.

The Rise of Air Piracy and the Fall of the United States. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, many factors led to the crumbling of the United States of America. After a post-war flu outbreak that caused a bit of a stir with the isolationist movement (Convinced returning servicemen brought the disease from Europe), Prohibition was put into effect. After a bit of political uproar and some armed conflict between West Virginia and Kentucky, things settled down. The post-war flu returned in '27, ravaging the nation. This was believed by many to be the start of air piracy: When borders closed because of the outbreak, rum-runners took to the skies to avoid the border hassle. Things began to go downhill from there. After the stock market crashed and the economy shredded to pieces, Texas seceded from the United States in 1930, closely followed by California, Utah, the Carolinas, and New York. These separations of states continued until 1935, and a new North America was formed. Border conflicts erupted, and during this time, bootleggers and air pirates thrived. Before the settled down in 1936, most highways and railways fell into disrepair or where the target of sabotage, prompting the use of aircraft such as gyrocopters and zeppelins. These were the targets of the air pirates.

The Setting It is the year 1937. Air piracy has been on the rise. More than a few North American nations are at war with each other, and their governments will not hesitate to hire air pirates to shoot down, sabotage, hijack, and otherwise disrupt the shipping aircraft of enemy nations. In the air, pirates and militias fight for dominance of the airborne shipping lanes, and despite the good fight the militia puts up, the pirates all too often win the battles. With the nations of North America in turmoil, empire-seeking Russia and Britain have turned their sights on the east-coast and west-coast nations, and zeppelins belonging to these countries have been reported in the area. The new North America Throughout the years of 1930 to 1936, North Americans have been forced to constantly buy new maps as borders changed and nations sprang up, and others died. At this time, the map is as follows: New North America

The Common Laws PLEASE READ ALL RULES BEFORE CONTINUING.
1- Obey me. If I tell you to do something, do it. If you don't you're gone. 2- Don't godmod. If I catch you, you will get only ONE warning. After that, you're done. If someone else catches you, I will check to make sure, and make my own verdict. 3- Tying in with 1, my word is law. All verdicts on disputes given by me are final. End of story. 4- All that being said, please try and have fun. I don't want to come across as a dictator here, but I want the rules followed. 5- Literacy here is the quality over quantity rule. If a post is well written, it can be as short as you please. That being said, 2-3 lines are the minimum. On the other hand, if you are a 5 paragraph roleplayer, you WILL be asked to tone it down. I don't care if you're capable, not everyone wants to read that big of a post. Basically, don't post too short, don't post excessively long. And I will determine what is excessively long. 6- Use the profile skeleton provided. 7- Don't post until I give you the go-ahead. 8- If you don't post within 1 week of your last post date, you will get one (1) warning. If I don't get a response, you have an extra three (3) days to post. If you don't, you get a second (2) warning. If, after an additional 3 days, you have not posted anything, you will be removed from the RP. However, if you give me notice beforehand to not being able to post, or give a reason for not being able to, I will accept it. Also, if you ARE removed, you can come back. Finally, warnings do not carry over. If you got 1 warning and gave me a reason to why you couldn't post, the warnings are reset. 9- Romance is ALLOWED. In fact, its encouraged. However, don't think that just because someone says they love you, they really mean it. Pirates can be ruthless. 10- Don't auto-hit. Our combat system takes care of that for you. 11- In the same vein, do NOT kill a player-controlled character without permission from them. Also, BOTH players MUST PM me with the decision. 12- Please, please, PLEASE check out how manoeuvrable your aircraft is in its description and ABIDE BY IT AT ALL TIMES. I don't want to see Balmoral bombers doing extreme turns and stunts. 13- Rules CAN CHANGE at any time, and can be ADDED at any time. An announcement will be posted whenever they do.

Character profiles PiratesUsername: DemonDays2 Name: Louis Cartier Age: 25 Gender: Male Nationality: French Louisiana Allegiance: Pirate Appearance: Louis C. Bio: Louis was born around planes, literally. His father was a pilot and his mother was a mechanic, one of the few female mechanics in the area. Nobody cared, because if Marie couldn't fix it, it didn't exist. Louis started flying as soon as he could, getting odd jobs with the farmers around Goodwill, where he grew up, as a crop duster. When the world went to hell, he found his skill in need. He became a mail courier, but when he and his father (Both in the same aircraft) got shot down over the People's Collective, they both swore to get back at them. And they did, both of them going on to become fighter pilots, but in different ways. While Louis joined the Fortune Hunters, his father joined the air militia of Louisiana. Ever since, Louis has enjoyed his life. He loves the excitement of evading the law, and on occasion, downing their planes. Personality: Louis is a carefree person. No matter what situation, he'll have a smile on his face. He jokes around a lot and isn't one to take things seriously. He fancies himself a ladies man and a gentleman, and though the second one is spot on, his luck with the ladies is hit and miss. He loves flying, and is from the school of thought there's nothing a good, lazy, sunny day flight can't cure. Aircraft: Peacemaker 370 "Bayou Surfer II" Crew: Fortune Hunters
Username: Asuka_Layne Name: Katherine "Kat" Morceau Age: 23 Gender: Female Nationality: Republique de Quebec Allegiance: Pirate Appearance: Kat Morceau Bio: Katherine wasn't the type of girl who would sit around and conform to what men thought was a 'perfect home wife'. That life wasn't appealing to her. Instead she became somewhat of a fortune hunter, jewels and money, wealth appeals to her. Katherine didn't know her parents very well, she was sent to live with her grandfather instead becase apparently she was too much for her parents to take. Her grandfather loved her with all of his heart before he died when she was fifteen. Katherine pilots her own aircraft and doesn't take sexist garbage from other men. Personality: Katherine is fiery and tempered, she speaks her mind and isn't afraid of the consequences. She would be known to be a sort of seductress of sorts, doing whatever necessary to get what she wants. It is known that she is somewhat of a tomboy-ish figure but she can make herself desireable if she needed to which is something she did on an almost regular basis, men are easy to manipulate if you wore a short enough skirt and said the right words. Katherine can be compassionate though...if you've gotten her drunk and into bed that is. Aircraft: Ford Hoplite, A.K.A. Hummingbird, yes it's a little girly, get over it. Crew: Fortune Hunters
Username: dragonhealer Name: Jenny Drift Age: 24 Gender: female Nationality: ISA Allegiance: Pirate Appearance: Jenny Drift Bio: Jenny grew up working of planes, her mother was a mechanic for the Medusas. She knows her own flyer like the back of her hand and can fly it any which way upside down and half asleep. She quickly ranked up and is now pretty high up there, but she seldom works with her crew, preferring to fly solo, and make up her own flight plans. Personality: Outgoing, flirtatious, loud, optimistic, emotional, feminine. Aircraft: Hughes P21-J Mk. 3 Devastator Crew: Medusas Militia Username: Name:Skye Cage Age: 22 Gender:Female Nationality: Arixo Allegiance: Freelance/ militia Appearance: Skye Cage She has a small, black star burst shaped tattoo on her left shoulder Tattoo Bio: Skyes father was injured in the war, he went out of flying and into business, procuring a zeppelin and a small crew. Cage Enterprises is moderately successful, and most move separately goods. Skyes mother died in the second flue outbreak. Skyes father buried him self in work, ignoring Skye for the most part, except to see that she learned how to fly. Skye was making small solo flights by the age of 15, and by seventeen had several lucrative contracts. Skye Mostly transports small shipments of valuables such as fine jewelry for merchants who don't trust it on a regular zeppelin. In order to keep her businesses going the way it is, Skye is trying very hard to stay off the radar of pirates and militia alike. She dose a lot of tree top flying. She will transport small amounts of what ever the client wishes, no questions asked,as long as they pay her enough. Although her home is near her fathers, although she rarely speaks to him, both of them aren't much for conversation. Her fathers business is located out side of phoenix and has a small airfield. Personality:Skye is quiet. When she dose talk it is blunt and to the point. Her mind is logical, and she isn't prone to flights of fancy. It is very hard to get a raise out of her. Skye has a very dry wit, and it is often hard to tell when she is being sarcastic. She could care less about her looks, and rights them off. She can be a bit indecisive, not that she will ever let on. She forms opinions very quickly, and its hard to change her mind about things. She is very stubborn, and its near impossible to stare her off her path. She has an odd air of innocence about her, that seems to almost contrast with her hard as nails attitude. She was raised mainly among males, so is very much the tom boy, and dosen't care about getting her hands dirty. She enjoys soft fabrics like silk, her one indulgence. She dosen't get close to people often, and likes to be on her own, although it dose get lonely sometimes. Aircraft These aircraft are some of the best around. Each comes loaded standard with a rocket-and-gun loadout, with a different weight class depending on the plane. Refer to the loadout section later for more information. Hughes Bloodhawk: A fast but lightly armoured aircraft with high manoeuvrability. Has a light standard loadout, and 3 gun sets, 2 on the nose, and 1 on the wings. Curtiss-Wright P2 Warhawk: A rather well armoured aircraft. Not terribly fast and with below average manoeuvrability, it has the firepower to dish out a lot of damage, and the armour to take a lot. Comes with a heavy standard loadout and 2 gun sets, both on the wings. Grumman E-1C Avenger: Another well armoured plane that isn't exactly nimble. It has good speed and average manoeuvrability. Has a heavy standard loadout and 3 gun sets, 2 on the wings, and one on either side of the nose. Hughes-Lockheed Firebrand: Slow with below average manoeuvrability, she has above average armour. Has a heavy loadout and 3 gun sets. McDonnel S2B Kestrel: Fast but with a strangely low manoeuvrability, she has above average armour. Comes with a medium loadout and 3 guns/2 gun sets + 1 gun, all on the centre nacelle, as well as a turret. Fairchild F6II Brigand: A good anti-zeppelin plane, with a fast speed and good armour but low manoeuvrability. Has a heavy loadout and 2 gun sets, plus a turret. Focke-Wulf Hellhound: Below average speed and below average manoeuvrability, but with above average armour, she also has a turret. Has a medium loadout and 2 gun sets plus a turret. Sanderson FB14 Vampire: Slow but well armoured, the Vampire has below average manoeuvrability. Has a heavy loadout and 2 gun sets. Curtiss-Wright J2 Fury: A beautifully balanced aircraft. Above average speed, manoeuvrability and armour. Starts with a medium loadout and has 2 gun sets + 1 underbody gun. Bristol Balmoral: One of the only bombers available, she's very slow and has low manoeuvrability, but is extremely well armoured. Has a heavy loadout, and 2 gun sets + 2 turrets and 4 1,000 pound bombs. Hughes P21-J Mk. 3 Devastator: Another balanced aircraft, above average across the board. Has a medium loadout and 3 gun sets, 2 on the wings, one in the nose. William and Colt Peacemaker 370: Light, fast, and very manoeuvrable, she has average armour. Has 3 gun sets and a light loadout. Ford Hoplite: Extremely fast and very agile, she has the best manoeuvrability but suffers from very little armour. Has a light loadout and 3 gun sets.

Loadouts and guns Loadouts:Please note that although the standard loadout has specific guns, they can be changed out. Check the gun section for heaviest calibre mountable on your airframe. Standard:Light: 2-4 rockets, depending on wing size. Guns are either .30 calibre or .40 calibre. Medium: 4-6 rockets, depending on wing size. Guns range anywhere from .30-.50 calibre. Heavy: 6-8 rockets depending on wing size. Guns range between .40-.70 calibre. Specialized:These loadouts replace the standard. Bomber: Wing mounted .50 calibre guns, 6 rockets, and 4 1,000 pound bombs. Balmoral ONLY. Fighter-Bomber: .40-.60 calibre guns, 4 rockets, and 2 800 pound bombs. Medium and above only. Fighter: 2 missiles only, but allows you to upgrade your guns up by 1 calibre (.30s become .40s, and so on.) Interceptor: Removes all missles but allows for the use of any gun (.60 and .70 calibre guns reserved for heavy and medium fighters only.) Long range fighter: 6-8 missiles depending on wing size, but only .30 calibre guns. Guns, guns, guns. There are quite a few choices for guns, and they are all here. Remember a few things: Gun SET means that you MUST have 2 of the same calibre guns. There are exceptions. For example, each of the Kestrel's centre nacelle guns can either be different calibres, or have a set of the same, and one different. Also, the Fury's under-slung gun can fit only 1 gun of any calibre. The guns: .30 Calibre "Zephyr": Fast but not very damaging. Lots of ammo here though, and can be loaded onto any aircraft. .40 Calibre "Ranger": Average gun, slower than the .30 but faster than most. Average damage and quite a bit of ammo, and can be loaded onto any aircraft. .50 Calibre "Dragon": Good damage but a little on the slow side. Average amount of ammo, and can be loaded on any aircraft. This gun is the heaviest that can be loaded onto light loadout aircraft. .60 Calibre "Crusader": High damage but slow. Not much ammo so make your shots count. Can only be loaded on medium aircraft, and is the heaviest that can be loaded onto medium loadout aircraft. .70 Calibre "Goliath": Highest damage gun and very slow. Ammo is a premium with this gun. Can only be loaded onto heavy aircraft.

Combat system Lets get down to brass tacks. This is the meat of our RP, the fighting. Except lots of it. The system is simple. Each aircraft will be listed below with a number. That is their armour, aka HP. Once you begin a fight, that number is at its max. Every time a person fires, he must roll a 20 sided dice. This is his chance of hitting. Odds are misses, evens are hits. On the next post, if the first dice roll comes out to a hit, the TARGET must roll a dice specific to the calibre: Roll 1 for 1 gun, 2 dice for 2 guns. 6- .30 8- .40 10- .50 12- .60 20- .70 20- Missile The result is subtracted from their HP total. Confusing? Here's an example: Pilot 1 fires at Pilot 2. Pilot 1 rolls a 20, coming out to a hit. He fires his .50 calibre guns. Pilot 2 rolls 2 10 sided dice, because Pilot 1 fired 2 guns. The roll totals 15, and Pilot 2 subtracts 15 from his HP total. The battle continues. One more thing. You must let the other pilot have a chance to fire. This means that battles will get a little complicated, but this should be the outcome of a standard battle: Pilot 1 fires. Pilot 2 rolls damage (If needed). Pilot 1 does no action, instead RPs his reaction to the hit and any manoeuvres. Pilot 2 fires. Pilot 1 rolls damage (If needed). Pilot 2 does no action, but RPs HIS reaction. Pilot 1 can now fire at will. If that all seems confusing, PM me for a more detailed explanation. Gun use *NEW* I don't want people spamming one gun calibre over and over. For example, if you have .70 calibres on, I don't want someone firing that over and over again. So, I'll start a small cool down system. It is as follows: .30/.40- Can fire instantly on the next post by you. .50/.60- Must wait one (1) post before firing. For example, after you've fired this gun on one post, you must wait at least one of your own posts before firing. .70/Missile- Must wait two (2) posts before firing, as above. HP: Once you're out of HP, your plane is effectively destroyed. You punch out and safely land. The plane is out of commission for a while. HP levels: Lightly armoured: 900 Below average armour: 950 Average armour: 1000 Above average armour: 1050 Well armoured: 1100 Combat and non-combat:Yes, I realize this RP will be about fighting. That being said, I do NOT want fighting ALL the time. I want some backstory going on here, I want pilots hanging out, chatting. There's a time for battle and a time for rest, remember that.

DecalFortune Hunters: A strange gang of pirates. These guys go for the hardest targets, and always attempt to make off with the highest profits and lowest loss of civilian life. They have no base of operations. DecalMilitiaHollywood Knights: A group of pilots equally at home at social parties as they are in the cockpit of their aircraft. Based exclusively out of the Nation of Hollywood. DecalBroadway Bombers: Another social group of militiamen, the Broadway Bombers are know for their rivalry with the Knights. They will not hesitate to attack them, unless a truce needs to be called to take on pirates. Based out of the Empire State. DecalConfederate Air Force: The defenders of the Confederation of Dixie, this used to be a segregated squadron, but their new commander put an end to that. They fly out of the Confederation of Dixie. DecalPeople's Collective Air Corps: A militia with low resources and a lot of enemies, they fight using fast-attack and hit-and-run tactics. They are based in the People's Collective. DecalWind Warriors: A deadly but lesser known Navajo squadron, they fly in 2 man mini-squadrons when fighting breaks out, and use the terrain to their advantage. However, the Navajo Nation terrain interferes with radio communication every now and again. Based out of the Navajo Nation. DecalBlake Aviation Security: The first air security miltia, Paladin Blakes' Blake Aviation Security is one of the best around. There are many tales told about BAS, although more than a few are fiction, paid for by the BAS. Based out of both the Empire State and the Nation of Hollywood. Decal

[Lets get this show on the road. I should probably mention that by default I've written everyone down as aboard their crew's zeppelin. For those not versed in the lore of Crimson Skies, these are massive zeppelins (airships) that can launch aircraft as well as pick them back up, and each can store a large amount of aircraft. Simply put, they drop from the belly of the zeppelin and start the engine while in midair, and they are brought back aboard using a hook coming out of a hatch in the zeppelin. The hook is caught by another one that retracts out of the aircraft's wings, or the top of the propeller in the Hoplite's case. All aircraft have folding wings to fit inside.] ------ High over the mountains of Pacifica, clearly visible against the clouds, a stark-white zeppelin lazily floated across the sky. The zeppelin was known across North America with its distinctive red tail fins and 4 playing-card motif on the front sides, a skull and crossbones on the back sides. The zeppelin was once known as the Fulcrum, a cargo zeppelin belonging to Empire Air of the Empire State. Now it belonged to the Fortune Hunters, and was now a deadly ship named the Pandora. And aboard that, in a side cabin in the forward gondola, a man slept soundly. To anyone looking into his room, it looked like it had been the setting of a wild party. Clothes were strewn about (All Louis') and the bed was rather messed up, as if two people had been having fun in there recently. But that was because Louis Cartier didn't feel the need to clean. He was asleep, and there were no partners with him in the bed, just a lazy beagle aptly named Mutt. Louis woke up slowly, looking around the room slowly. He was still a little tired, but that would change. He shook his head, trying to wake up some more, before standing and quickly dressing, then looking outside the large window into the cloudy sky. A storm had been brewing but died off, but the clouds remained. Despite that, it was still hot, and humid. Louis shuffled out into the hallway, yawning widely. He wondered if anyone was awake after their last heist, stealing from a small Russian passenger zep in midair. Likely they were still all sleeping soundly. He wandered down the corridors of the airship, his destination the lounge, but not making a straight path toward it.
