C’ren, be reasonable… Ceylith started patiently, in the sort of voice that meant she could go on saying this forever. You can’t possibly intend on staying in your weyr forever. It was a strange thing when a dragon had to be the voice of reason, she reflected, but it was a position she was used to now. It had taken Hers all of fifteen minutes to realize what sort of outbreak had occurred in the Weyr and now refused to leave his room, except for very brief moments of eating and drinking. And, even then, he normally snatched the food and retreated back to his cave. And the only reason he did even that much was because Vox wouldn’t do it for him.

She glanced outside the weyr towards the shelf, at the bright sunlight. It was such a nice day too. Far too nice to let Hers loll around indoors. For one thing, he’d get fat and then no one would want him. For another, he needed to actually meet people. C’reeeeeen! Stop ignoring meeeee! she complained, dropping her patient tone and going into something more whiny.

Her rider, naturally, ignored her more. That was the only way to deal with whiny dragons. Besides, he’d heard all of this before: go out, meet new people, fall in love, yada blah bla pbthh… quite frankly, he’d had enough of people for a while, a fact that Ceylith had conveniently forgotten since it had occurred over three days ago. The Greenrider glanced towards the little sandbox with the firelizard egg, just to make sure it was still there. Ceylith had a nasty habit of attempting to move it to her stone bed, so she could pretend it was her own. Very cute, but it took the egg away from the heat it needed so very much.

If he was to judge, he had a sevenday or two to go before it hatched. Vox had, for a while, been hopelessly ecstatic over it, as proud as a bronze father. Then he forgot and waddled off. Typical of him, really.

Ceylith, I’ve already told you. I’m not going out there until the problem is settled! I am not going to bring those… he shuddered slightly as a look of pure revulsion crossed his face Things back here. So, drop it.

Ceylith pouted mentally and folded her wings a little. Well… fine. If C’ren wanted to play tough, so could she! Well… I have been a little itchy lately…

Never before in his life had C’ren rushed out of his weyr so quickly. Well, maybe once or twice before. He stopped only long enough to send mental orders to Vox to stay and keep an eye on the egg and grab his cleaning supplies. Then it was off to the lake! He squinted a little in the bright sunlight and shielded his eyes. If anything could combat the lice, it would be the cool fresh waters of the lake.

Unless, of course, lice had evolved to an aquatic stage… C’ren stood at the edge of the waters, just staring at them as if he had never seen them before. On second thought, maybe he ought to just slather Ceylith in oil. Lots and lots of oil. Shooing the dragon towards the water, he hurriedly started washing her off, constantly asking her where she itched.

Meanwhile, Ceylith felt absurdly proud of herself. In a way that she hoped was furtive----it really wasn’t----she glanced around, trying to see if there was anyone else here. Someone, hopefully, that she could encourage C’ren to talk to. Maybe she could subtly move over…

“Ceylith, stop moving! I’m trying to get this done quickly!” before other people came. Or, more precisely, infected people came.

This 'lice epidemic' was really, really getting on Ialluth's nerves. There were very few things that could frazzle the experienced green, but these so-called lice and their strange effect on humans seemed to warrant F'sey's absolute isolation, much to her rider's absolute glee. He'd tried to explain once or twice, but Ialluth kept forgetting why this tragedy meant F'sey could stay in his weyr, but, for perhaps the first time in their partnership, Ialluth could not get Hers out at all, except for perhaps when Cloud and Song failed to bring him anything to eat.

It had gone on far, far too long.

F'sey, Mine. I need a bath.

So take Cloud and Song, you like the way they try to scrub.

But Mine, you are so much better and I really miss you and wouldn't some fresh air be-

Absolutely not.

Enough was enough. Ialluth snapped opened her wings as far as she could in her weyr and bellowed, eyes whirling as she stared down her stubborn male. Why had she ever chosen this lazy beast? Come with me. We are going to the beach right now and you will bath me.

I-

That was not a request!

F'sey swallowed and stood, doing exactly as the ill-tempered green said. He couldn't ever remember the last time he caught her in such a mood; was she due to Rise soon? Feeling mildly ashamed for neglecting his dragon so, F'sey gathered up his firelizards and allowed himself to be herded down to the- Was that another dragon?

HALLO THERE! Mine was wondering if Yours would like to chat! she bellowed to the green afar.

"Wh-what!? Ialluth! IALLUTH YOU DIRTY LIAR STOP THAT RIGHT NOW."

Ceylith lifted up her head at the friendly call and instinctively bugled a reply, trying to get a word in before C’ren had a moment to open his mouth and scare the others away. Well, hello! Yes, we would love the company!

“What the.. NO! Ceylith! Bad girl! Bad dragon!” C’ren attempted to hold back the Green, but it wasn’t exactly effective. When the Green wanted something, she wanted it now and, right now, she wanted to be polite and social. Judging by the other rider’s reaction, he wasn’t exactly eager to talk either. So there! It wasn’t like the dragons could force them to be social! “Come back this instant!”

But, the Green was in one of her moods right now and happily gamboled over to the older dragon. I’m Ceylith and Mine is C’ren. And he would love to talk to Yours.

“No, I wouldn’t! Ceylith, you said you needed a bath! Stop this right now, or else we will go right back up to the weyr! I’ll turn this entire trip around!” It was a hollow threat, though, and he knew it. Ceylith was normally quite shy and quiet, but she was around another dragon now, one with apparently the same goal in mind. C’ren brandished the brush, as if that would actually make him seem more intimidating instead of foolish.

Ialluth crooned loudly as Cerlith approached, tossing her head as she spread her wings out to the side. This was lovely, absolutely lovely; plans went so much better when the other dragon was a willing participant as well! The agreeableness of the rider mattered very little, Hers was about as pleasant as a tunnel snake Ialluth sometimes thought, though friendly people were easier to get to talk to him.

A pleasure, Ceylith! I am Ialluth and Mine is F'sey. He is very eager for some company, this...well, I'm not sure WHAT the problem with all the two-leggers, but it has kept Mine cooped up in his weyr. He has been very lonely. Ialluth made sure to play up the drama, trying to make him sound as pathetic as possible. Of course, the redhead wasn't exactly helping her case, cursing under his breath as he swatted his firelizards and tried to look as imposing as possible. She was fortunate he was a small man.

"Ialluth, you great green beast of a dragon, get your sorry hide back here!" F'sey yelled, near-shrieked would be more precise, but his words fell upon a deaf mind as his dragon happily babbled to the bright green she just met. "Ialluth! IALLUTH. WHAT IF HE HAS LICE, IALLUTH. BY FARNATH, I'M TRYING TO AVOID PEOPLE."

It was apparent F'sey was not going for the subtle approach.

Ialluth sighed as though a great burden had been put upon her and regarded Ceylith quietly. Mine would like to know if Yours has the 'lice'? she relayed, giving a little shake of her head. Honestly, I do not see the problem. Mine is a very odd sort. She loved him anyways.

Thank Farnath for that, F'sey thought dryly.

“Ceylith, come on! I’ll go right back up to the weyr if you don’t stop this and then you won’t get a bath at all! I will! I swear I will!” Honestly, did everyone have to deal with their dragons like this? It was exhausting! Whatever happened to working together as a team, as two halves of the same mind? C’ren grumped and then shoved at Ceylith once more, although it was about as effective as a herring attempting to tackle a shipfish. Perhaps less so.

For her part, Ceylith simply ignored C’ren’s squawks. Silly little rider. He never knew what was best for him. It surely couldn’t be healthy to stay all cooped up in that little weyr all the time. Everyone needed new friends. Oh, I can imagine, she said sympathetically to the other Green. Mine has also been keeping himself all cooped up, the poor boy, with only his firelizard for company. He was going out of his mind with loneliness.

“I was not, Ceylith! Cease and desist with these slanderous lies! What if he has lice?!” And, right at that moment, he heard F’sey’s own worries about C’ren’s cleanliness. The younger Greenrider’s eyes went wide with shock and revulsion. “I do not have lice! I’ve never had lice and I never will! How can you even… Ugh! Ceylith, come on! I will not socialize with someone like this!”

C’ren held the broom defensively now, half hoping it might serve to keep the other man away. Clearly, if he had lice, he must be out of his mind with anger and apt to attack anyone in sight!

See what I mean, Ialluth? Poor boy has no idea how to socialize these days. He says that lice is… it’s like tiny trundlebugs that bite at the hairs on his head, really. He says he doesn’t have any. Mine is very… picky about being clean. Now, C’ren…. Be nice. This is Ialluth and F’sey. Go on. Say hi to Hers. She says that he’s very nice. Ceylith turned her attention back to Hers now, nudging him in the back with her wedge-shaped head. It was a bit like watching a mother of some sort encouraging her offspring.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:53 pm

Ialluth continued to ignore Hers with ease; his prickly demeanor was so common, she'd probably be alarmed if the older rider started the behave civilly. It was absolutely amazing to meet someone with such a similar problem, though! Yes, it is absolutely pertinent that Mine and Yours meet, I think. They NEED each other, clearly. Hiding in their weyrs, what silly, silly boys.

"Silly!? Hardly, I- WHAT THE SHARDS IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN, 'SOMEONE LIKE THIS'?" F'sey bellowed, not unlike an angry herdbeast, and whirled to stare at the broom-wielding stranger head on. "Are you IMPLYING that I have lice, because let me tell you, you scrawny little excuse of a rider, I most certainly do not and I will NOT have you-"

ENOUGH.

The roar rattled through F'sey, silenced by his dragon the same way feisty weyrbrats are put in their place by firm foster mothers. Dumbfounded, he scratched his cheek with a finger and watched Ceylith push C'ren towards him and, before he realized what was going on, Ialluth had found her way over to do the same, finding Ceylith's idea quite brilliant.

Apologize.

What? No, I-

APOLOGIZE.

F'sey set his jaw and bristled for a good moment or two before forcing out something that might have sounded like "I'msorryIcalledyouscrawny," because honestly, the redhead didn't have a lot of room to talk.

Satisfied Hers had made nice, Ialluth backed off a step or two and focused back on the other dragon. Playing clutchmother with Hers was fun, but she wanted to talk with the dragons, too. I think that went rather well.

The younger Green agreed easily with a nod of her head. Oh, most certainly. It’s such a pity when these silly two-leggers get unsocial. It always takes so long to get them properly trained again. It was simply fascinating to find someone else with a similar problem to Hers. Perhaps they could be friends! It would be nice, Ceylith thought, if Hers could find someone nice again. They are indeed very silly little boys.

It was just… infuriating to listen to Ceylith carry on this little chat while this… this old man insulted C’ren in such a manner! And to imply that he was scrawny or had lice! That was simply unforgiveable! And to think that Ceylith had called this… this excuse of a man ‘nice’! Clearly, she simply had no taste.

“Scrawny?! A fine word coming from a man who could hide behind this brush!” he shot back angrily before he could stop himself.

Ceylith growled low in her throat and turned a glare on Hers. C’ren! Be nice! No, don’t you dare argue with me! Or else I’ll have no choice but to take your new flitt egg away from you! It was a very, very hollow threat, but it was certainly something that would work. The Greenrider was very protective of his new flitter egg and not eager to let Ceylith have it for any periods longer than a few minutes.

Back to Ialluth, she added, Such silly little boys. Whatever would they do without us? C’ren, go apologize to Hers. They’re being nice and polite to let us be here. Be nice…

“…’m sorry I insinuated that you’re infected with lice,” C’ren muttered in reply, still eyeing the other man’s hair uneasily. Well, he hadn’t scratched it yet, so it seemed likely that he was clean… Very slowly, the younger Greenrider relaxed. At least they had two things in common: a strong dislike of crawling things and a motherly dragon who wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. “So… you’re F’sey, then?”

Oh, yes. It’s going very well. They’re actually talking to each other now! So, tell me, Ialluth… is Yours always like this? I’m afraid Mine is. Absolutely nothing works sometimes! How do you get Yours to behave? Why, yes. They did sound like a pair of doting parents talking about their children. It was a role that came naturally to Ceylith.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 26, 2009 8:32 pm

F'sey ran a hand through his hair when C'ren mentioned the lice, twitching a little at the very thought of being infected. He KNEW what happened when you had lice and longer hair. "Yes, I am. And I do not have lice," he muttered unhappily, "I've been very careful to make sure of such." Ialluth rumbled quietly and F'sey cleared his throat. "And you must be C'ren. So what brings you out in public, in the middle of this horrible, awful epidemic?"

Ialluth settled quite happily when Hers took the hint and continued to be more social, actually striking up a conversation with Ceylith's. This could definitely work! ( And without her guiding him every step of the way, what a novelty! ) Hmm? Always. I am afraid so, Ialluth replied with a sigh, gaze drifting to Hers as she watched him stand around awkwardly. He wasn't always like this. Well, I mean, he was, but not to this degree. It was hard to explain and it was very foggy in Ialluth's memory. It wasn't even her memory, more like one they'd shared.

As if on queue, Ialluth stirred up something long-since buried in F'sey and the little green dragon started, surprised by the sudden relay of information. That's right. There was a blue. And His. And Mine. What was his name? Ialluth rumbled softly to herself, shuffling her wings as she focused on the very dull memory. She knew the blue was important, knew His was very important, to Hers, but. Name? Where? When? Mine was fond-

"Enough." A thought so firm it came across as a vocal order as well.

F'sey had turned to face his dragon, scowling fiercely as he insisted silently that she speak no more of the mysterious blue and His-who-was-important-to-Mine.

Rubbing his face, he turned back to C'ren and forced a tiny smile. "My apologies. My dragon has no discretion when it comes to topics suitable for discussion." F'sey's long dead mate was not something he deemed 'suitable for discussion'. He cleared his thought and shifted awkwardly. "She'd talk about anything. I usually prefer using as little words as needed."

Ialluth, still mildly stunned by the degree of sheer emotion behind the single command, sat in silence for a few moments before finally addressing her new friend again, still a bit distracted from the original question. Mine is always like this now, yes. Since...a very long time. I'm not sure if he ever really behaves. Much to her dismay.

There. Now this wasn’t so bad, was it? When F’sey combed his fingers through his hair, C’ren looked almost horrified for a moment, mistaking the movement as an urge to scratch. But the other man said he was lice-free. But wouldn’t C’ren make the same claim if he had lice? Aha! So, the older Greenrider was trying to be sneaky, now was he? Well, C’ren was smarter than that…

C’ren… he does NOT have the lice. Ialluth says so, and she wouldn’t lie, Ceylith rumbled patiently to Hers. Such a silly little lad… she gave him another nudge in the back to encourage him to talk some more. Go on, my dear. He asked you a question. It would be polite to answer…

Then she turned her attention back to the older dragon, listening with open fascination to this tale of woe. Oh… that is so sad… at least, she thought it was. For a moment, she wished that Hers had an excuse like that.

But he didn’t.

“This insane beast brings me out here,” C’ren said sadly, giving Ceylith an affectionate smack. “She said she was itchy. I thought she meant that she had the lice, but now I see that it was just a ploy to get me down here. I assume you were tricked in a similar manner? What is the world coming to, I ask you, when dragons trick their riders into leaving their weyrs in such desperate times?” Right, because an infestation of lice was totally the end of the world.

Oh? And what was so important that F’sey would suddenly quiet his dragon over it? C’ren sent a mental question to Ceylith, one that the Green ignored. The Greenrider scowled and leaned against the dragon as best he could. Sharding beast, never sharing when it was appropriate… “So… you have two flits?” he hazarded, waving a hand to the two blues that had followed F’sey here.

From the dragon’s point of view, this conversation was going extremely well. Why, C’ren hadn’t even threatened anyone yet! She was practically beaming with pride. Yes, I’m afraid Mine is usually like this as well. He’s far friendlier when he’s been drinking. A bit too friendly, actually… A mental prod from her rider quieted Ceylith for a moment.

But that probably wouldn’t last very long. We are both very sorry to hear about Yours loss. Oh wait! Now Ceylith remembered! It was very vague, but she recalled a similar story. Mine had one once, I think. Then he went away. To another Weyr, I think. Not nearly as sad as F’sey’s story.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 27, 2009 5:22 am

Ialluth crooned softly, just about to let the subject drop ( well, not really, but Hers was insisted with much more vigor than he usually did ) when Ceylith mentioned Hers had also lost a someone-who-was-very-important. Given, Ialluth was fairly certain F'sey's was gone, but gone to another Weyr was also pretty far gone. But this was Excellent! Absolutely perfect! Well, uh, I mean, it's not excellent Yours lost his person. That's not what I meant.

Ialluth took a very brief moment to look confused and allow her mind to catch up with her words; it wasn't like her to babble on without thinking about it.

What I mean to say is, how lovely that they've had such similar experiences. They can BOND over it. Mine will not talk about this whomever-he-is, but maybe if Yours knows what he means, he will talk. Ialluth nodded, glancing over to check on her rider while she chatted with the younger green.

"Ah. Ialluth didn't trick me into coming, she just didn't give me much of an option," he replied dryly, giving his motherly green a dirty look. "They clearly don't understand the severity of the situation. To get lice is-" F'sey trailed off, shivering as his skin crawled at the very thought of the nasty little insects crawling around in his hair; it was completely repulsive! He shook his head and made a face, that sort of thing was better to not think about.

Don't get lost now, Mine, you're doing Very Well! He's asking you a question.

F'sey blinked and refocused. "Oh, uh, yeah." He waved towards the small flits darting around over the surface of the water. "The bronze is Song. He is very loud and the blue is Cloud. He's a deadglow." No use sugar-coating those sorts of things. "I'm not really sure why I acquired them, but Ialluth likes the way they try to help scrub her when she gets a bath."

F'sey back under control, Ialluth ruffled her wings and turned his focus back to her new friend. (All this back-and-forth was getting tiring!) I think I should tell Mine of Yours and you can tell Yours of Mine, she said thoughtfully. Mine will probably be mad, but I'm sure he'll really be grateful. She twisted to catch Hers attention again. Mine, Mine love, I have something very important to tell you, about the someone-who-we-don't speak of, Ceylith's had one too! Just like you, Mine, isn't that fantastic! She'd have used C'ren as an example how F'sey should behave, but...they were too similar for that to work.

F'sey turned increasingly red as his dragon babbled, expression morphing between sheer outrage and absolute shock. What kind of stories were they sharing!? He stared blankly at C'ren and said "Kindly disregard anything she says, she's a fantastic liar," even though everyone knew dragons didn't outright lie. Would she twist the truth about C'ren, though?

Whatever. This had to end!

"Ialluth! Ialluth, YOU LISTEN TO ME. YOU CEASE AND DESIST RIGHT-"

MINE. You are making a fool of yourself, yelling right in front of Ceylith's! Let us talk, I-

I don't care, we speak nothing-

I HAVE HAD ENOUGH. I know what is best for you Ridermine, and you will listen and you will do as I say! I let you rot in your weyr and it is my turn to approach this problem! Ialluth's sheer verbosity was enough to silence Hers, the tone was only the icing on the cake.

Resigned, F'sey returned from that distant look and sighed at C'ren. "Sometimes I regret Impressing," he complained to the other greenrider. Damn nosy dragon.

Ialluth knew he didn't mean it.

Well, at least someone understood the severity of the situation! Ceylith insisted on pretending that lice was just a minor nuisance instead of the epidemic that it clearly was. While F’sey spoke, C’ren acted as a look-out, just keeping an eye out for anyone else. Between the two of them, they ought to scare away anyone who might have lice. They said it was more common on women anyway.

Ceylith nodded at Ialluth, agreeing completely. Oh, no, I understand what you mean. It’ll be good for them to talk about it. It certainly can’t be healthy for them to stay up in their weyrs all the time and never talk to anyone about it. It’s like a wound, you know? It has to be out in the open for healing to begin. She nudged C’ren in the back once more and then rumbled.

C’ren! C’reeeeen! Listen! Hey! Hey, listen!

“I have a firelizard myself. His name is Vox and he flies into things. Often.” C’ren made a face at that. When he was younger----ha! As if he was such an old man now at twenty-eight Turns!----he used to panic about it. But these days he realized that it really couldn’t do any harm to Vox. The flitt had a skull made out of stone.

“Not now, Ceylith…” the dragon was waved away with one hand. “See? I’m being social. Just like you demanded. Oh. Right… I know what Ceylith wants now. I’ve recently come into the possession of another egg.” Although he certainly would not go into detail of how he got it! No thank you.

Hey! Hey listen! Mine! Ceylith pouted mentally and then gave her rider another prod in the back, this one sharper. Ialluth says that F’sey also had a Very-Important-Person-Who-Is-Gone-Now! Isn’t that wonderful? I mean… well… you two can understand each other, right? He was a Bluerider and he was very, very nice… Ceylith would have happily babbled for several moments longer, but C’ren gave her a tap on the snout.

Judging by the sudden red on F’sey’s face, the older Greenrider had just heard the news. C’ren winced a little and waved a hand. “I know how it is with dragons. Every Greenrider has one.” Speaking both of dragons and Important-People-Who-Are-No-Longer-There, since it felt like every single one had some dramatic story of a lost love. “Ceylith, you shouldn’t say things like that. It’s not our business.”

Ceylith looked at Ialluth in awe as she took control of her rider magnificently. Teach me how to do that? Please? she pleaded, her eyes wide and swirling with fascination.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 27, 2009 6:31 pm

"Yes, I suppose, but it's so much more irksome when they're yours," he replied, giving his dragon one last dirty look before giving up his quest to put her notions aside. Whether he was referring to Ialluth or X'doc, he didn't clarify, but he supposed the specifics didn't really matter. Everyone did have a little heartbreak in their life. Just because X'doc was dead did not mean it hurt more than those who lost their mates to other people or a fight or a change in Weyr.

"It's...sometimes you just forget you are not the only one, living alone in your weyr," he finally relented, staring far and away as though this was some sort of fantastic revelation.

Ialluth gave a delighted squeal and stomped around, hardly noticing the little sand storm she kicked up until Hers started to cough and asked if she could stop trying to kill him. Considering he might have just finally realized something she'd been trying to impress upon him for the past....ten turns (though the time was completely unfathomable to the dragon), she didn't really want to kill him now.

Fantastic, fantastic, Ceylith! It's wooorking! she warbled. It felt wonderful to be this happy, it was like flying with Hers or something. Oh, hm? Teach you what? How to get their attention? The green swashed her tail and considered breifly. We respect each other so he knows. It's a tone I don't use a lot, so when I do, Mine knows. If he's being terrible, I just roar at him. I am bigger, after all. He is just like a naughty hatchling. Needs reminding. Ialluth rumbled again and bumped Ceylith playfully.

After Ialluth's dust storm settled, F'sey brushed out his hair and shook his clothes, making sure to sigh loud enough for the green to hear. "Wherrie," he muttered. "Say, you haven't trained your Vox to fetch food, have you? Song and Cloud never get it right, they keep bringing empty plates." He had quite the collection now. "There are so many people in there all the time and-"

F'sey's eyes bugged a little. "...do lice survive without their hosts? What if they can live in, say.....sand?" Lots of people came to the beach.

"FARNATH. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IALLUTH!?" F'sey cried, shaking his head wildly.

There were some three hundred pairs of riders and dragons cramped into the Weyr. Logic said that some of them had to be single. And a good number of those would be Greenriders. Although… everyone really did love Greenriders, hurrhurr. C’ren might have responded to F’sey’s fantastic discovery, but the dust from Ialluth’s delighted dance of joy caused a coughing fit for him as well. “By Faranth, that’s worse than Ceylith’s victory dance!”

My victory dance is glorious! Ceylith snorted at her rider before turning her snout up. Actually, she was very tempted to perform it here, seeing as she and Ialluth had been so effective in getting their boys to place nicely with one another.

She was a bit disappointed that the older Green couldn’t impart bits of wisdom to her though. So sad. Ah well… I really must try that with Mine then. He gets in these moods, you see, where he refuses to do anything!

C’ren attempted to ignore the motherly dragons. If you ignore them, they would go away. Like bullies.

“Food? No. I haven’t even bothered trying to teach Vox how to fetch food. He’d just eat it. His loyalty, I’m afraid, is most closely linked to whoever has fed him la…” Wait, what? WHAT did F’sey just say? It took a while to trickle into C’ren’s brain but, when it finally got there, it caused a systems-wide meltdown. C’ren cringed back from his newfound friend and went all wibbly-eyed. “DON’T SHAKE YOUR HAIR!”

Mostly because he was worried about the lice jumping onto him, of course. But, since he doubted that would work, C’ren bolted towards the water, deciding that the possibility of water-lice was better than dealing with the lice that almost certainly infested F’sey’s hair now.

Ceylith sighed. And they were getting along so well… C’ren! C’ren, you silly Mine! Get back over here!
PostPosted: Wed Apr 29, 2009 12:03 pm

"BUT I DON'T WANT THE LICE!" F'sey shrieked hysterically. "THEY AREN'T MINE AND I DON'T WANT THEM!" He shook his head again, running fingers through his hair trying to get the nasty bugs out before they had a chance to hang on and bury in. He didn't want to be bald! He loved his hair! Maybe not incredibly pretty, and only a dull shade of red, but he still liked it a great deal.

Mine! Mine, calm down, the lice-

F'sey wasn't listening, he was too busy shaking like a wet dog.

Ialluth sighed and turned to Ceylith. It looks like I will be giving you a demonstration, she said, mildly amused at the way the opportunity just seemed to present itself. Ridermine, she warbled, snaking towards her lifemate. Oh dear, your making a mess of yourself. Calm down, there are no sand lice. I would not give you lice! Mine, Ridermine.

F'sey still wasn't listening.

Ialluth gave a loud rumble, bringing her foot down within feet of her rider. F'sey jumped, startled out of his lice-induced frenzy. "...what?"

Call your friend back. Silly Mine, they are 'headlice' for a reason, yes? No sand.

F'sey blinked, growled and suddenly felt incredibly....dumb. His dragon was right. He was getting a little carried away, wasn't he? He was safe out here. They were headlice, right. They had to be on heads. Taking a deep breath, he turned, looking for Ceylith's water-gone rider. "Hey, dimglow! Come back out here! There are no lice, shardit!"

Ialluth sighed. What a foul mouth.

Poor F’sey. The only thing worse than getting lice was getting someone else’s lice. In the water, C’ren was washing his hair as furiously as possible. Hairwashing is one of the many activities that should never be performed ‘furiously’. Other things include eating and dressing. Very, very carefully, C’ren went over each strand of hair, trying to feel anything out of the ordinary. In other words, anything lice-like. This was problematic since he had never really encountered lice before.

“What is this?! IS THIS LICE?!” he’d say every few moments.

Ceylith sighed and followed her rider forlornly. And they were getting along so very well. It would be nice, she thought, if her rider had a Very-Important-Someone again. And that certainly wouldn’t happen if he kept running away from them! C’ren! Stop being so silly, C’ren! she called after him.

It didn’t work. With a sigh, she turned back towards Ialluth just in time to see the demonstration. Ohh… that looked like it worked rather well! I think my problem is that I started training him too late, she said idly to Ialluth as she waded out into the water. He does this all the time. C’ren! She attempted a footstamp, but it didn’t seem nearly as dramatic in the water.

Mostly, it just got water everywhere.

Well, at least it got C’ren’s attention. “For the love of Faranth, Ceylith, WHAT? Can’t you see I’m a little bus--”

Ialluth says there’s no such thing as sand lice. And I believe her, so you should too.

“…Are you sure?”

Fairly sure.

“…Oh.” Now the Greenrider just felt foolish. But, hey; at least F’sey had been acting like a fool too. It was very, very awkward, but at least there was plenty of awkwardness to go around. Far soggier than five minutes ago, C’ren walked back to F’sey, trying to wring some of the water out of his clothes. “…So. No lice then?”
