(( Aim log between Kairi and Kim ))
Ka'ohu padded wearily across the sun-backed ground of the savannah. Her pelt was covered in dust, her belly matted with dried mud. dry grass had torn and caught between her toes and stuck in the tangled mass of fur between her ears.
She didn't groom. She just didn't.
What was the poitn of making oneself look pretty when the wind and dust would make you dirty again in a matter of seconds. No. Ka'ohu did not care about appearances. After all, it's inner beauty that counts, right?
After a moment she paused, lifted her head to blink through the straggles of fur and sighed. Without warning she flopped to the ground, summoning a great dust cloud that swelled up around her. She choked, smacked her tail against the floor in agitation and let herself roll onto her side.
She released a long, noisy breath and closed her eyes.
What a day.

Duma was bored. He was always bored - but there was nothing to do! Murdoc, the usual recipient of his snide comments and teasings, was off hunting. Doing something useful, for once. Dumanla hoenstly didn't know why he was still here. He'd made the cheetah's life a living hell - how was the so called 'step-dad' still willing to stay with what he'd referred to as 'the demon-child'? Did he really care about Duma's mother that much? Pff.
The dark adolescent stalked across the savannah, aimlessly swiping any beetles or rocks he passed out of his path, perhaps playing with them for a few moments before remembering someone might be watching. He was an adolescent now - and he had to start acting like it. To attract the pretty ladies and the like.
But...what was that? Up there? A big lump in the middle of the savannah, brown-y coloured. Was it a rock? No, wait...it was moving! Was it Murdoc, playing a trick on him!? Teeth bared, Duma gave an irritated bark, soon followed by a snarl as he leapt at the lump, hoping to land on top of it. "Get lost, Murdoc!"

Unaware that she was currently being stalked by a strange creature, Ka'ohu shifted a little, trying to make herself comfortable on this stupid, annoying ground. A stone was pressing against her shoulder and she couldn't seem to make it go away...
Then it hit her...literally.
Something landed on her, something big and heavy and...whoa, was she being attacked?! Her claws were out in seconds as she tried to gain purchase on the ground, scrabbling madly to her paws. She was thirsty, tired, but heck, she was not going to go down without a fight!
"Wha' tha bloody 'ell?" She saw pink. Pink!? "Wha're yous doin'?!"

WOA, wait a sec! That wasn't Murdoc! Murdoc was..a cheetah. This was a lionness! Scrambling backwards, claws scraping across the rocky terrain, Duma gave a confused yowl, forehead creasing in confusion.
"Who're you!?" he spat, although he didn't quite intend for the amount of venom in his voice. He watched the strange lionness, severely confused as he glanced around him and behind him, sure of Murdoc's smug face. Surely he'd planned this, to make Duma look stupid? This was just the stupid sort of prank his step-dad would pull...

Her lips pulled back into a kind of grimace and she shook the straggles of fur from her eyes to see him better. What an odd looking thing. He certainly was a thing! She'd never seen anyone quite like him! Such pink fur! What an odd sight! She could have laughed -- if she wasn't so annoyed that he'd just pounced on her, that was.
She bristled. "Ah know wha' this is all about." She replied, stepping towards him. "Yous think yous can beat on me cos I'm a girl, right? Well not right! Imma not like those other girls." Girls who groomed and preened and pranced. Girls who were slender and delicate and pretty.
Ka'ohu was stocky, large, burly and quite capable of standing up for herself. All she lacked was an adult male's size and a mane...which was probably for the best considering her grooming habits were non-existant.
"Yous pounced me. Yous be'er 'splain yerself." Her tail flicked from side to side and an incredible itch sent her shoulder into a spasm.

What was this girl on? Duma bared his teeth in an attempt to seem threatening, taking a step back as she came towards him. She was...bigger than he'd expected. Being a Leotah, he was a little on the small side, with leopards and cheetahs both being agile rather than bulky. But he didn't care - that meant her was agile times two! He could climb trees and run fast! So who needed strength and bulk? It just made you uglier - he thought he was quite handsome, if he did say so himself.
He snorted, hoping he annoyed her. He liked annoying people - seeing them get angry and erd and the likes was just so amusing! "I pounced you 'cause you were moving and I thought you were food!" he proclaimed proudly, puffing his chest out in an attempt to make himself look bigger.
"And I don't have to explain myself to anyone! Especially not you!"

"Fine." She snapped, pausing to scratch vigorously at the spot on her shoulder. The effort rocked her sideways, so much so that she almost landed sprawled on her side. But she managed to maintain her balance until the itchiness had subsided, leaving her free to talk again.
"Darn fleas." She hissed, shaking herself in an attempt to free any fur that had come loose.
Then her attention was back on this rude little pink male. "Look at yous, acting all tough. Yous a big pink girly boy. That's what yous are." She jabbed a paw at him. "Come on then tough boy, fight me."

Duma narrowed his eyes, watching her carefully. Scratching? What had Momma told him about scratching? Stay away from it, or if he was scratching go see her 'cause... He hissed suddenly, skidding backwards. Fleas, that was it! Ugh. He certainly didn't want them, even though it was fairly likely he already had them. But if he didn't, he didn't want to risk the chance!
Was she insulting him!? He growled deeply, flashing his teeth again as he crouched down low, an offensive stance. "Yeah, but my pink makes me handsome. Unlike you - you're just boring and brown. Who cares about some boring brown lionness?"
She taunted him, so he replied with one of his own. A smug smirk on his face, he didn't try to fight. He didn't need to, since in his own mind, he was already the winner.

If she was effected by his sudden retreat she didn't seem to show it. Most people tended to have this reaction around her. She assumed its because they were just afraid of getting beaten up by a girl. Not the fact that she was flea-ridden.
"Handsome, eh?" She laughed, snorting. "Yous think what yous like, girly boy. Yous can't hurt me wit' those stupid insults. Yous think I care bout what yous thinks?"
She sat then and glared at him. None would have believed her if she'd said that her mother was a beautiful, elegant mistweaver. She'd gained none of her mother's attributes, taking her looks and behaviour straight from her father's side. "Yous don't need to worry. I won't tell no one yous was scared to fight a girl." She smirked. "I know how to keep secrets."
Her ear dipped sideways. "Wha's wrong wiff you now, eh? I ain't gonna bite yah, not unless you keep shootin' off yer foul mouth."

Duma's upper lips curled, the male flashing his teeth in a small growl, claws digging into the dirt a little. He wouldn't get angry and lose control...no. That was just what Murdoc always teased hm about, and what his mother told him to control. He couldn't give Murdoc another excuse to mock him!
"I wasn't scared to fight you, stupid! I could take you on easily!" he snapped, growl deepening to a snarl again as he crouched down, looking ready to pounce once more. His tail flashed around up in the air, and his hind wriggled a little, as if he was preparing to leap right then...
"I just don't wanna get near you 'cause you're all...gross and stuff. Look, you've got fleas all over you! Mama said to stay away from strange lioness' with nasty coats that looked like they had fleas."

She flinched, face creasing, ears pulling back. For a moment she looked almost...hurt? No, her feelings had casing of steel, nothing could possibly get through them, could they?
"Fine." She spat after a moment. It wasn't the jab at her apparent lack of physical strength, nor even the jab at the fleas. She knew she had fleas. That was why she itched. That's why her pelt was thinning - because she'd scratched at it so much. It was the fact that the world seemed to care so much about outer beauty. She realised it was the same with Ahnik, though he'd been less hurtful.
"Go away then. Leave me tah sleep." She turned away, padded a few steps and then flopped down onto her side again, releasing a long, held breath.

Duma watched her carefully, poised to leap but not choosing to just yet. She looked...offended? No, that wasn't quite it. he couldn't quite put his finger on what it was, but whatever it was it was her own fault! She'd started all of this, by being mean to him and his pinkness. He actually quite liked being pink.
She spoke, and he snorted, relaxing his position and getting to his feet, before lowering himself in a sitting position and proceeding to clean a paw in a somewhat disdainful manner. She'd told him to leave, and he couldn't wait to do so, but this paw really needed cleaning first. He watched her out of the corner of his eye, as she flopped onto her side and sighed. ...Had he actuall hurt her feelings?
Knowing he'd regret it later, Duma took a step towards her, cocking his head tot he left. "...Who are you?"

She wouldn't turn to face him. She wouldn't give him that satisfaction of knowing that she wasn't as tough as she made out. Well, Ka was a tough girl. She knew how to handle herself. Or she thought she did. It hurt now, but in an hour or so the hurt would be a faded memory and by tomorrow, forgotten.
She growled.
"Pretendin' tah care? Ah'll pretend tah answer, then." She huffed. "Me? Ah'm a lioness with a nasty coat. Yer'd better go now, pinky baby, 'fore the nasties get yoos too." With another growl she draped a paw across her face, blocking out the light, the sky. The world.

Duma watched her curiously, head cocked inquisitively as he awaited an answer. He thought she wasn't going to, when suddenly she growled, before speaking. A growl of his own began to vibrate in his throat, especially as she began to speak. He wasn't a pinky baby!
"Fine!" he snarled, claws beginning to dig into the ground again. He'd only been trying to be nice and polite, like people told him he should be! In the future he just wouldn't bother! Snarling, snapping his teeth once more, Duma snorted as he turned around, racing off back home. Even his siblings were better fun than this stupid lionness.

She heard him leaving. Was he leaving? It sure sounded like he was. An ear rose hesitantly, listening to the thump of his paws fading. Then, it flopped lifelessly back to her head.
She didn't move for a long moment. Her body very still, her side quivering only slightly with every breath. Then, when all was silent and she knew she was alone, she pulled herself up onto her rump and spent a moment scratching at a flea wriggling around in her neck fur.
She turned her head to glance in the direction the other had gone. But there was nothing. She was alone.
So...where to next?
She stood, shook a cloud of dust from her fur, and moved slowly on.
