Whats your favourite dream theater song at the moment? It always changes because there are so many great songs, though.
So whats your current no.1 ?
Why?
What do you like best about it. =)
Currently mine is :
Solitary Shell from the 6o Album.
Why?:
I really like the lyrics, and the acoustic style through most of the song. It ends with quite a good climax from electric guitar instrumental to piano. It has a good vocal range on it, and James LaBrie really does do an awesome job on the singing, Pitch perfect.

I tend to love all DT albums at one time or another, but right now Root of all Evil from Octavarium is my favorite. It's just a great song from start to finish. I think my favorite part of the song are the vocal melodies, which give me goosebumps everytime I hear them. They were brilliantly written. 3nodding The lyrics, the melodies, every part of that song rocks. I love how it revisits it's earlier counterparts both lyrically and musically...
Favorite line: "...I can feel my body breaking, I'm ready to let it all go..."

I LOVE the heavy riffs, the lyrics from when he reads the 'suicide note' and Our deeds have travelled far, what we have been is what we are...
I just can't get enough!

I agree about both tracks.. Every song has so many amazing features to them.. which Is why I think DT are a band you can never truly get bored off.
I think because i've been heavily listening too 6o recently, my fav. track has changed too War inside my Head... X_X
I love singing along to this one. It's heavy, dark, desperate sound keeps me hooked. pirate
I think, also because I put awake on at a point today, thats going to be my next album to love again. xd

For such a short track, it has a big impact. smile

At the moment I've been listening to the Octavarium album most, so my favourite song is I Walk Beside You. The guitars at the start give it a really tense mood, then the chorus just lifts it up.
Over all the time i've been listening to Dream Theater though, my joint favourites are Through Her Eyes and The Spirit Carries On. The bass at the start of through her eyes is amazing, and it's one of the few times the bass really stands out. A lot of people say Petrucci's guitars are too technical and cold, but the solo's in both of these songs just drip with emotion. I think James Labrie's got a wonderful voice for singing slower songs like this, but he is my favourite singer ever, so i love everything he's ever sung 3nodding

I listened to Scenes from a Memory again last night, and found out i'd remembered Through her Eyes slightly wrong. The bass runs through the whole song apart from the start xp The little bass fills really help the mood. I don't think any instrument sounds as sad as a bass guitar.

I just can't seem to get enough from Honor Thy Father.
It has really nothing amazing in it (if you don't count the intro) but it just keeps me entertained day after day. Well I can remember when I first heard the intro. Just blew my mind away. But it's not really that amazing in the end.
Great song, though.

My current favorite would have to be "As I Am" from their Train of Thought album. It was a fresh kick in the sack. From start to end I was blown to bits. The guitar solo was outstanding. Fast, hard, and melodic. Very nice. I also liked James' vocals, and he even said the "F" word in it, and when I first heard it I couldn't even think for a few moments. Did he really swear? Hell yeah! I continued to headbang.

Currently my favorite would be Endless Sacrafice.
Why? Well, the main reason is because I really like the lyrics. The first time I heard the song the lyrics made me think of someone very special to me. I also really, really love the instrument parts.
I have a few more reasons but I'm pretty sleepy right now so I don't feel like explaining more.

Like funny red text up there (I don't remember your screenname offhand, sorries D:), I'm going with The Root Of All Evil. I'm absolutely addicted. :] I especially like the introduction, but the entire song... eee, it's great start to finish.

Yeah, the Root of all Evil is great from start to finish. It's over 8 minutes long yet it doesn't seem to drag on at all. It takes a really good song to be that long and still feel short.
