This was actually modified from one that artist Mickie Muller came up with (she does beautiful artwork, one of her more well-known works are the pictures on the "Well Worn Path" deck.)
You will need:
-1 rough quartz crystal
-earthy incense (I suggest sandalwood or patchouli)
-a green candle (for healing and peace)
-some sort of offering (if you wish to stay elemental, I might suggest water or milk, but fertilizer is also a great offering for this particular ritual)
Now, this ritual is great for trees or plants in your area that are a bit on the sickly or ill-tended side. The tree I worked with is a huge oak that's right outside my bedroom. It houses plenty of birds that wake me up in the morning, and the wind through its leaves helps me fall asleep on hot summer nights. I've used its fallen branches as wands, and used its leaves and acorns far too many times to count in my workings. All in all, me and this tree have quite a bond. Now its my turn to give back.
Firstly, You'll wanna gather all your equipment and set up around the bottom of the tree (or near the plant, ect.). Light up the candle and burn the incense while you begin a rather deep meditation.
Personally, I did the whole "I am a tree" visualization, where you let go of the things around you and imagine taking root into the ground below your butt. Your body becomes a tree trunk, and the rest of you expands out to be branches and leaves. On Earth Day, this was particularly fun because it was sunny and beautiful and it literally felt like my "leaves" were sucking in all that yummy vitamin D. Anyway, make sure you're in that state of mind, you know what I mean. wink
Next, take that pretty little crystal, and imagine all those good vibes pushing themselves into it. This is going to be a catalyst of sorts, a seed of health and thankfulness (cause without the trees, we'd be pretty asphyxiated!). When you're ready, dig a small hole near the tree/plant and bury the crystal in, nice and snug. Hope you weren't too attached to it, the crystal is what you're giving back after all...
Now, say a small blessing over the water/milk/wine/mead/fertilizer/whatever, something nice and poetic about what the tree/plant gives to you, and how you wish to give back. If its sickly, imagine health being restored to its leaves and tendrils. If its about to be torn down (and you better have fought whomevers doing it to the death scream ) wish its spirit well in being reborn again...Overall, just extend those good vibes over to the tree/plant, and subsequently pour the offering over the crystal (unless its fertilizer. If its a spike, stick it in the ground, elsewise, spread it accordingly).
Let the incense burn out (another small offering, least it was to me. My gods accept incense as an offering so...yeah), and if you want to stay for a while, the candle too. If not, safely extinguish it (and the incense if you wish). Around every month or so, usually during the full moon, I give another small offering (unless its the middle of winter and freezing cold outside...I find another way).

thank you for posting this.
My boyfriend's dad is cutting down a cotton wood in the backyard :[
My boyfriend is extremely allergic to it, and the rest of the family is just allergic to it. So they need to.
Its over 50 years old, so i am going to preform this for the tree. My boyfriend said that he would even join me :]
