Me and my flatmates and some friends headed out to the cinema today, and this was the film we saw. It was a 3d showing (and it seems that more and more films nowadays are starting to be shown in 3d). I tell you what, the 3D made a great difference in thsi film - it was excellent, giving a real depth to an already visually vibrant film.
The story is baically this:
Susan is on her wedding day, when a strange meteor essentially squishes her. She is thus truned into a 50-foot tall 'monster' and subsenquently carted off to a secret government facility to be imprisoned with the otehr monsters: Bob the blob, the 'misisng link', the cockroach doctor and the 300 feet tall 'insectosaurus'. They're watched oevr by the ever-entertaining General W.R.Monger (who while looking about 50 is apparently almost 90- years old haha) who 'lost his tearducts in 'nam'.
Thinsg change when aliens land and they're called to protect the earth in a monsters vs aliens showdown!
This was a great film - a lot of fun, with surprisingly rounded characters and innovative and good chunks of action, teamed with excellent animation. There also seemed to be a theme of female empowerment throughout it, mianly with Susan discovery of confidence, and a little scene where the classic couples-out-to-date-in-catand-find-aliens sceneario is turned on it's head.
The jokes were funny, and I especially loved the scenes with the government and the presidents and how it poked fun at 'em. Brilliant.
Probably not a classic, but definately worth a buy and i'm sure you'll enjoy it repeatedly. Amazing in 3d.
