Lately the guild has been plagued by a variety of misplaced threads- and when confronted, the author insists that were he or she to put the thread in the correct subforum, it would go unnoticed. But if we each were to pledge to check each subforum (or at least the main ones- Outside World, Gaia by Gaslight, Tea Party...) each time we visit our beloved guild, this problem would be all but solved! Perhaps we could even pledge to post in the subforums on a daily basis.
As a childhood hero of mine once said- the power is YOURS! *extends a powerful finger in your direction*

Yeah I was starting to wonder why 'Gaia EI' threds were popping up in the Central Section, when they should be in Gaia by Gaslight. Same with the 'Look at my Avi!' threds. I don't know how running a Guild Goes, I'm new to the whole thing, but does the captain have forum moderators? because with a couple hours and some help this could all be Organized.

I believe our good captain has mods, but he's in the process of searching for more. I think it's also a matter of sympathy- people don't post there, because their posts would be neglected. He dismisses the problem, because he understands their concern. If people checked the subforums, this would be a non-issue.

I, admit I am one of those who is guilty of this for the reason stated above, it just feels like it'd get ignored.

That's true, I do check the subforums obsessively and it doesnt seem like there is a lot going on. BUT if everyone posted the right thing in the right place, there wouldnt be much going on in the Central Section and everyone would be forced to check the subforums. If everyting was organized, then no one would be neglected.

Hear, hear!
I must admit I've been leaving 'lost' threads where they lie; not just because there are so many, but because some people object to their moving. However, spurned on by this, I shall begin to shift misplaced threads I stumble across.
I, for one, am very enthusiastic about subforums - and think that if they are checked more often by more people, this guild will be much the better for it.

Aye Captain, I'll try to do my part.
Would be helpful if the subforum icons blinked with new posts, as I don't know if it does that.

Kurisu of the Hellfire Aye Captain, I'll try to do my part. Would be helpful if the subforum icons blinked with new posts, as I don't know if it does that. Regretfully no, it does not. Which is part of why people are so leery about using them.

I honestly think the subforums would work just a wee bit better if there were an appropriate but short description by each name. When I first joined the guild, I had no idea what was in each forum, and was highly confused by the names and trying to remember what went where. As the central section seemed more active, it was just much easier to place threads there since I knew they would be looked at more often.
Yes, I am aware there is an announcement with a description in most of them, but most people do not think to look at them first thing. For example, one could look like:
"Fabrication District (Steampunk Arts & Crafts, Fanfics, etc.)"
Or: "Tea Time! (The Anachronism's Chatterbox/GD)"
I am making a point lately to look through the subforums I like looking in each day that I visit, but they move so much more slowly than the central section (as many have stated).

Subforums are a problem in EVERY guild, and it's mostly Gaia's fault. You ever notice that huge, empty white space to the right of the subforum names?
Well, most big forum sites use that empty space to provide useful information like a smaller-text description of the forum, the number of posts in that forum, or most importantly: Most recent post, in which thread, and by who, and when, in that forum. This is so that people will see "oh, look, someone posted in the subforum!" without even having to bring up the subforum's index page, just like how each individual thread gets their own little info column on the right. Gaia is well aware of the problems with their poorly designed and outdated Guilds system and with the regular forums, but has frequently chosen to crank out more cash items and push advertising rather than actually improve the site.
But, since we can't change how Gaia works, I do agree that our subforums need description tags. I can never remember which subforum is for what, myself, and some of the names are a bit ambiguous. I try to do my part and check through the subforums, but as part of a sneaky catch-22, the subforums see even less traffic when people intentionally don't post there... Fewer and fewer posts in the subforums means fewer and fewer people checking there, and they grind to a halt. Usually, I check EVERY subforum once a day, and after about a week, I just stop checking because there aren't any new posts and it starts to feel like a big waste of time. A better pledge wouldn't be just to check the subforums, but to use them as they are intended to be used! (as in, check them AND post in them)
I'd gladly do some moderating or crew-work. I'm on here at least one hour out of every day, and I've been here long enough to know (for the most part at least, haha) what goes where and why.

You're right there, the names of the subforums do need a bit of clarifying, to say the least. Yet another thing on my to-do list, I suppose.
I am, however, loathe to put a description as a name (a nifty, smaller description would be much better). I'll see what I can do.
EDIT: I've changed the names of the subforums a bit, I hope they are clearer now (if they're not, do say [think of a better name for 'Geographical'?]). I've tried to make them clear, without them being little more than a list. I hope I got the right balance. :/ If not, do yell

can you use bb code in the names? if you could use say a title - [size=x]description[/size] to provide a small and obviously not part of the title description it would be pretty nice. And i agree with both points XD a description would be extremely useful but don't really want one to be part of the title I know i don't post very often, but ill try and do my part with regards to the subforums

Alas, you cannot use BB code at all. Seems the guilds system is a bit outdated.
