Rarely this is touched in any guide- much less the beginner's guide. However I find that it is important to understand the role that you have chosen, as well as any tools you may have and things of the sort. Therefore this is something that is going to be definetly part of the beginner's guide.

In the case you feel as though you want to post your opinion, please include what you think people often do not understand and give them tips on how to play that role better. Every post is likely to be included in the guide, so don't hold back.

Dismissing Common Misconceptions #1

Too many times do I see a samurai played incorrectly, and demons all too happy. So I thought I'd dismiss some common misconceptions to help people understand the role they play better. Firstly, I want to cover the samurai.

The Samurai were highly intelligent warriors on and off the battlefield. Unlike their knight brethren the samurai had many different techniques of slaying their opponet, and should they be disarmed had developed their own martial arts technique for combating an opponet who still wielded their sword.

The anime samurai, no matter how intertaining, often draws misconceptions of the samurai. Yes, I'm blaming you, Rurouni Kenshin. You too, Samurai Deeper Kyo, and most other samurai anime out there. A samurai did not waste their time in pointless sword duals, in fact the most exact form of samurai-ness that I currently know of is Samurai Champloo. Sure, there was no breakdancing back then- nor did people equip their geta with metal soles as far as I know. However, Bones Studio showed the samurai's technique as should be shown.

Most fights were ended in one strike. This was instantly illustrated in the first episode as Jin and Mugen slain many people with one strike. That is because, no matter the technique the samurai used, it was designed to end the fight quickly with one strike. The superior attack does not mean flashy names and movements like in Rurouni Kenshin- it means defeating the other opponet's technique instantly.

The absolute samurai technique is a technique which is able to get under any other strike swiftly and deliver an instant death. Remember that during character creation. If your samurai is truly a master you need to keep in mind the technique's core.

This is how the saying that truly elite samurai could defeat eachother without even swinging their sword came about. Without making a movement they could analyze echother's technique stance and understand their victory, or defeat. It's not just samurai mumbo jumbo.

NOTE: Now, keep in mind, I'm not saying that one hit KO's are okay. Role play battles are much too deep for that. What I AM saying is that if your samurai is truly a master samurai, he will not be used to his strikes being avoided.

Dismissing Common Misconceptions #2

Hell and demons, Heaven and angels. Let's cover what we all know, shall we? Demons are creatures of darkness shunned by the Gods and damned to Hell to repent for their sins. Well, that is what commonly is thought at least. Go to hell, you are a demon.

This is infact incorrect. Hell, no matter how it is portrayed, is a place of punishment for the mortal's immortal soul. (Does that make sense?) A place which tortures the soul for thousands of years for the sins commited. This means that if you go to hell, you will not have your sanity with you for long. I don't care how hard a character is, even demons returning to the underworld are probably scarred depending on their actions on the surface.

Sadly, I see people who say that Hell is no big deal- treating it as though it is no different from the 'hell' that is the mortal realm. Demons are nice, and loving without a emotional or physical scar on them most of the time as a result of their stay in Hell. No matter how you look at it, this is simply impossible. The Gods of the underword will make sure that their torture for you increases if you adjust. You forget they are not limited to physical harm. They can inflict pain upon the soul, show scenes of a life long forgotten- tease you with your desires or cave to their own and.. Use you to indulge themselves. (Cesored for the more sensitive users.)

Hell is not happy fun place. In the case even the hardest character is sent downward, they will not come back so hard.

With that said, let's look at the creative of a demon. According to Catholic/Christian relgion (Or whatever..) Lucifer and his followers were banished from Heaven thousands of years ago, and thus Hell was created. In this respect, there are the 'original' demons which would be the good ol' devil himself and his followers. Let's apply this to all religions now and say that the devil/satan/Lucifer/Hades/whoeverelse had himself a few helpers in the beginning. That means that the demon hierarchy is perhaps like royalty. There will be those who were there for the beginning, and they will always be on top.

From that point, there will be the lower demons who came after the first ones. Mortal souls which have evolved within the dark abyss and have become demons. However becoming a demon is not so easy. In the case a person becomes a demon, it means that they have finally broken. Their will to continue gone, even if it means that their once believed to be immortal soul becomes dust.

Broken, the soul begins to reconfigure itself. Darkens, so on and so forth. Over hunreds- if not thousands of years- a demon is made. That means compaired to the mortal race, there are simply NOT many demons, unless they can reproduce like mortal creatures.

Well, in other words, demons have been played incorrectly for the longest time.

Now, we move onto Heaven and angels. There are two ways of viewing Heaven. A place of purity without corruption or other things we mortals suffer from. Everyone is happy and pure without an imperfection. Sadly, this image despite this is what it's 'supposed' to be is incorrect. This is first shown when Lucifer (Sticking to what I know people, and it's not even that much.) rebelled against Heaven.

That means that angels are NOT perfect and are perhaps the most decietful of the two. They have holy properties, granted, however their 'goodness' is likely to end there outside of a few exceptions. In other words, Heaven is full of elitists. Angels are going to think they're better than you as they're in the V.I.P room of the afterlife. It's not much of a stretch to think that they are arrogant.

That aside, the angel's story is probably much like the demons. There is a social hierarchy which puts those who were there from the beginning on top and the 'newbies' on the bottom.

In the end, we must not forget what properties they have. A demon - whether it be the soul of a beast of humanoid - is going to have dark properties; such is the same case for an angel. Each is weak to the other, and it is an ongoing battle without an end. Demon and angel when slain respawn in their place of origin.

Dismissing Common Misconceptions #3

Demons, monsters, and beasts. All three are often confused no doubt as a result for anime and Japanese influence. They refer to things confusingly. Sometimes things which they cannot explain which is violent in nature either a demon or monster. Beast should be obvious, however we will be covering it here none the less.

Certainly, the demons are the top in rank if we're looking at vulgarity and obscene behavior. From that point we have monsters and beasts. However, what is the difference between a demon and a monster? Quite a bit. Let's look at a demon first, shall we?

A demon is a creature of religious origin. Something which has spawned in the underworld, Hell, Hades, whatever you want to call it. Some believe as a result of the evolution of a soul.

Next, we have a monster. Rather than religious it comes from the imagination most of the time. Therefore, it is possible that it is more powerful than a demon as a monster can also be something that came from a demon's imagination. There is no way to tell if a monster exsists or not, and there isn't proof aside from the fear that we all have.

So, what is a demon? A demon is just that, a dark soul which has evolved in Hell. It takes many shapes ranging from humanoid to a demon as a result of a beast being sent to Hell. These are likely rare as animals can do right nor wrong, they just do as their instincts tell them. As such, the only way a beast will be sent to hell is if it was a sacrifice. In other words, a demon is a dark soul refined in Hell.

A monster? Things which do not have an explanation for their exsistance. This is likely to include vampires, werewolves, and halfbreed creatures such as nekojin (Cat person), inujin (Dog person), and kitsunejin (Fox person.). I'm sorry, all you vampires out there. You're not a demon, you're just a monster.

A beast? A beast is a vicous animal. Lions, snakes, so on and so forth. This also includes beasts of fintion such as dragons, and things of the like.
