Ceres laid curled up in the grass, a gentle breeze blowing over her just enough to keep her at a comfortable temperature here in the shade. The waterfall and dens could be seen in the distance, and if one focused on it, they could hear the constant roar of the rivers. A perfect white noise, especially for one who had lived here ever since they could remember. Ceres roused from her sleep by nature, her nap complete. The juve stretched and yawned, claws extending as she did so. She looked around as she sat up, checking for one of her sisters, or any other pride members, but she didn't see anyone nearby. The girl decided her best course of action was to head towards the river, the cool water would help her wake up. Plan in-mind, Ceres rose to her paws and padded off that way, tail swishing just slightly with each step.

Slipping from the coolness of the dens, Kiuma padded towards the river with much the same purpose in mind as her unseen daughter. Red eyes flickered around the area, a habit she'd learned on her journeys, and caught sight of the bright red and black body that preceded her towards the water.

"Ceres." She called in greeting to the juvenile, her head lowering to be more on level with the her daughter's. "Where have you been hiding today?" The queen teased lightly, easily catching up to pace beside her down the pebbled beach.

At the water line, she bent low to lap up the cool liquid, slanting a glance at her daughter as she smiled slowly. She couldn't have been prouder of the two litters she'd born in this place, one raised to strong young females even as the other grew stronger each day.

The girl perked up at the sound of that voice, she could never mistake it for any other's. It was the queen's- her mother's voice. She turned her head around with a smile to face Kiuma with a smile. "Hi mother," she said brightly, starting to wake even before she'd gotten some water in her. "I've been hanging out in the grass today," Ceres said with a nod. "Just woke up, actually, so I'm feeling recharged and ready for action!" she said, adding a little pounce-hop to her stride onto some imaginary foe.

"You have anything going on today?" She asked before dipping her own muzzle into the river when they reached the water's edge.

Kiuma laughed as she rose from her crouch, water dripping from her chin in bright drops. Her red eyes were mischievous and teasing.

"I'm going what has become routine for me." She said as she eyed her daughter. "You however... did you decide you'd had enough of Kannon's tender care? I didn't expect to see any of my young daughters off by themselves this time of day."

At the least, she thought, they should be within sight of the nanny, even if she wasn't actively entertaining them. Not that she blamed Kannon at all for this wayward daughter. There was quite a group of younglings in the pride now and she had her paws full of keeping track of them. One or two sneaking off might not even be noticed at first, in the hustle and bustle of small bodies seeking mischief wherever their attentions led them.

Partly, Kiuma encouraged independence and curiosity, as well as willingness to handle things themselves, rather than hiding behind someone supposedly stronger. However... those with authority should be obeyed and she would brook no breach of that from her young.

Time to see what Ceres had to say for herself, then decide what she thought of it.

She swallowed another big mouthful of water."Ah heh..." she uttered at first, not having expected that from her mother. Certainly, she had a good point, but it wasn't something Ceres hoped to discuss. Her ear twitched. "Well, uh..." Just say it, she figured. "I wanted an adventure, and to get out and see some of the pride's lands on my own, which I couldn't do if I stayed with Kannon, meandering around her way. Not that there's anything wrong with how she plays with us, or where she takes us-" she interjected, wanting to make that point clear. She really liked Kannon, and enjoyed hanging out with her, "I just wanted to go one way and she was heading another. So I just went my way." She concluded, hoping that she'd said the right thing. The words "and then I fell asleep over there" were left hanging unspoken in the air.

Regardless of whether it was the right thing, that was her story (and the truth of the matter) and she was sticking to it.

"Its not a bad thing, to go your own way when others are going another." Kiuma said as she settled back on her haunches, her tail snaking over the pebbles behind her with its end gently twitching. "But! If you are following someone because they have charge of you, it is inconsiderate and bad judgement to leave them, even if their path doesn't appeal to you. There are reasons for how they do what they do, and reasons why you should do it too. Do understand some of what I'm saying?"

The red queen kept her voice firm, though its claws were concealed in velvet pads. She wasn't trying to scold her daughter, not for a first time mistake.

"Next time, perhaps, we can find something for you to do that keeps you more occupied, so you don't go wandering off alone. Its dangerous for a girl of your age to be alone. If you need help, there will be no one there to give it and you could be seriously hurt..." Feeling herself start to lecture, Kiuma cut off and just blew air through her nose in a soft snort.

Ceres gave a small, hopeful smile after her mother had started, which vanished to a somewhat blank face at the "But!" that she had been expecting. Her ears folded back a bit- not completely- as she listened to what her mother had to say. She mulled over what her mother was saying, actually making sense of her logic. She hated that her mother seemed to be always right, as every child does. "Yeah, I understand," she said. The words were strained, she hadn't wanted to have to say them, but there was no way around it... Her mother was right, she'd been wrong. "I'm sorry, I'll think things through more from now on" she said, resigned to being wrong on this one. She made a mental note to herself- apologize to Kannon when she got the chance- she could tell that that was a task that would need to be done. The down mood, though, didn't last too long- she hoped that topic was done.

"So... uh... can we hang out?" She asked hopefully, "If you're not too busy, that is," she added quickly, not wanting to get in her mother's way. After all, being Queen of a pride certainly came with some business, as anyone could imagine. Still, the girl was hopeful, and didn't want to leave things awkward with her mom- Ceres liked to settle her problems as quickly and efficiently as possible, it seemed.

Kiuma lifted a paw to drop it on her daughters head and ruffle the fur there. Despite the gentle gesture, there was still strength in her paw.

"Thought before action is all I ask for." She said, though she recognized the irony of it when compared with her own past. Only Hippolyta really knew about that, since she would be the one to carry on the care of the pride. She needed to know what was out there and what had led her mother to do what she did when she came here. Ceres though, she didn't need to know the sordid details of her past. Better, that she just be the strong figure in her life, guiding her towards adulthood.

The red lioness softened at the hopeful note in her daughter's voice, her paw ruffling her again before dropping away.

"You may come with me, if you like. I want to look around a bit before anyone else gets up, and see what there is to see. I want to be sure nothing happened during the night and that everything is as it should be." She smiled as she bent her head down, letting her daughter in on a secret. "I was also thinking of going to the top of the den cliff today and taking a good look around from up there. Perhaps you can come with me, hmm?" She said softly.

Ceres blushed a bit under her fur at her mother's request and nodded. "I'll try to think more before I act next time," she promised. Ceres did seem to charge headstrong into situations too often. It was a new personal goal.

Ceres perked up more and more, looking more excited with each thing her mother added to the list that she had to do today. And then going to the top of the dens at the end of it all! It was the frosting on the proverbial cake, and she jumped to her feet immediately. "That sounds like fun, I'd love to come!" She couldn't form a wider grin.

And with that, she was determined not to get in her mother's way. She would hopefully be a help, not a hinderance, today. No, she would make sure to help out!
