The wind rushed past Alyssum's blazed face as she cantered through the forest, her mane and tail twin plumes of cream streaming from her dark body. She had no particularly destination in mind, but now that the sun warmed the earth again and all the snow was gone, she could run as much as she wanted, chase whatever she wanted, was free to explore without fear of ice or snow.
She ran into an opening until her flanks were foamy with lather, and she finally dropped from a canter to a gallop, a gallop to a trot, and a trot to a walk so taht she could catch her breath. Still gasping, she lowered her head to nibble at some of the clover, satisified that this was going to be a great day.

While Alyssum ran far below, it was high within the sky that another mare flew. With the weather as warm as it had been, the coming of spring had lifted the pale mare's spirit to new heights. . . both figuratively and literally! Today was a day the pale mare had decided to spread her wings and fly.
Weaving high above, catching various afternoon thermals, the mare had no destination in mind. She was flying wherever the spirits decided to take her, still learning of the lands she had stumbled upon the previous fall. Perhaps she hadn't picked the best time to travel away from her herd, but there was something about these lands that beckoned her to stay and to explore. Glancing down at the world below her, the mare smiled. . . it was good to see green again. Green grasses meant life and new beginnings. . . ah but what joy to be found in spring!
Despite her joy of flight, the mare found her muscles straining. The winter had left her a bit out of shape and her thick hair had never helped. . . Goodness only knew how tangled it had become! It would take hours for even a master hair stylist raccoon or squirrel to preen it free. Oh well - such was the price she paid for being blessed with wings.
Circling lazily over the plains, Kalila dropped daintily not far from where another mare grazed. She offered a light smile to the brown one, not wanting to crowd the mare but not wanting to appear unfriendly either. Flipping back her great wings, she shook attempted to flip some of her hair over her neck before she too lowered her head to graze.

The first signs of the other Soquili's arrival was a large, swooshing sound, a whipping bit of wind that blew the eating mare's mane away from her face and half-guided her head up from the delicious clover just in time to see her very first landing. Her deep purple eyes remained pinned on the being of dualistic black and white, even when the other offered a small acknowledgement and turned her attentions to the grass. It... it had been amazing!
The black-tinged feathers of this winged one echoed the long, billowing hair that ended in black tips, the shadowy socks and muzzle. This was not the first winged Soquili she had met - Joseph's wings of snow and Cormorant's pink-lipped feathers remained steadily in her mind, but she had never seen them fly. Never seen them descend with a grace and care that birds lacked, hooves gently, so gently, kissing the earth before reuniting with it. The image burned fresh in her mind, and Alyssum found herself blurting out an exclamation before even offering her name, "That was incredible, Sky Dancer!"

The pale mare blinked at the exclamation, turning her soft, green eyes on to the source of the sound. Sure enough, it was the brown mare that she had witnessed from high above and it seemed as if her landing had been rather impressive. Kalila found herself smiling at the title, her wings shuffling lightly in a moments self-consciousness as she dipped her head politely. "Ahhh," she started, attempting to find her voice. Honestly, it hadn't been anything truly splendorous. . . . But the wind was touched nonetheless. "I'm glad you found it so enchanting. . . . Though I promise I wasn't trying to show off." The pale mare didn't want the other to believe her vain or in need of the limelight.
Deciding it inappropriate to shout at one another, the pale wind moved from where she had landed, bridging the distance between Alyssum and herself. It wasn't often she found amicable companionship, and the fuzzy mare wanted to make sure she enjoyed what company she was given. Dipping her head, this time in a courtly bow, the young mare responded, "I'm Kalila, and tis a pleasure to meet you. It isn't often I get to perform for another," she admitted, eyes bright with pleasure.
Strange how some could find her aeriel display so amazing. It just made the wind realize what she frequently took for granted, the art of flight. Not everyone was gifted with a set of wings; not everyone could let their hooves kiss the clouds. Flight was something the mare thoroughly enjoyed, even with the tangles it caused in her mane.

Alyssum tilted her head, puzzlement on her blazed face at the other mare's words. Why wouldn't she show off? Had the chocolate mare possessed the gift of flight, she was failry certain she'd be twisting and weaving through the clouds or swooping just above the heads of others, out of reach but close enough to converse, joke, before zooming out of sight! Not out of meanness, of course. Just out of a desire to experience the magic, to never waste a second.
When she saw the monochrome mare coming closer, she helped close the space as well with an easy trot, the turqouise and purple dreamcatcher bouncing lightly against her chest. Eager ears caught hold of the name as soon as it was thrown - Kalila. Kah-lee-la. Somehow, the chocolate mare was disappointed. It was stylish, appropriate, but... Sky Dancer seemed much more fitting for someone with such grace. Nevertheless, she drew her head high and gave a toss of her creamy mane. "I'm Alyssum. You can fly for me anytime! I'd love to see more... it looks like so much fun. Just skimming along... looking over everything. Like... like a bird!"
