Would it be productive to have a thread purely for ranting?

A rant thread would be nice. That way we don't have to deal with a bunch of individual rant threads. XP

Only if people decided to attack said arguers. If we could leave it as a rant thread, where people get things off their chest without attacking other users for/through their rants, then it would be fine.

I don't know about anyone else, but it'd definitely help me after I get home from school on Thursdays because I always seem to need to rant about the class that comes after my last class.

Yeah.
It's letting go of an emotion you have.
Perhaps productive isn't the right word, because if you want to dissect the definition of it, 90% of the threads in this guild aren't productive. The entire website could be considered non-productive.
The thread was turning into a fight. It wasn't making any situation better - it wasn't improving anything.
When you're upset, there are several things you can do.
You can a) keep it bottled in, which typically only makes it worse later on. b) You can work off the energy in a negative manner. c) You can work off the energy in a positive manner.
Bitching and ranting is a very effective way of coping with a situation without causing destruction (to furniture, a wall, yourself, or other peoplee). There are more positive ways, sure, but this was the most immediate. Literally NONE of my real life friends are available right now, so I decided to make a thread to just spew out my thoughts. "Rants are for journals" isn't the greatest advice. When we're upset, we want SOMEONE to listen to us.
Edit: I think I interpreted your question wrong. >_> I'm in a defensive mode right now.

I'd have a lot of rants about politics, society, religion and my mother though...

I think it would be helpful. But it would probably start arguments.
Today has just been nothing but fighting. D:

Keeping stuff bottled up makes things spill out in ugly ways... with me, usually it spills out with me yelling at someone for something they haven't done, just because I'm so frustrated/pissed off/upset, and NO ONE will listen to me. Sometimes all we need is for someone to listen, and nod like they agree (whether they do or not is irrelevant, the action of showing like you agree helps)

Launch the polaris, The end doesnt scare us!
That's the first thing I thought when I read the topic.
When will this cease? The warheads will all rust in peace!

Blood Assassin 32 Launch the polaris, The end doesnt scare us!

When will this cease? The warheads will all rust in peace! The fights only come when one person antagonizes another person spewing out their feelings. If a person sat in the 'official' rant thread and waited for people to post, then called them out . . . well . . . they'd just be a bully and THEN those fights would start.
