Ha! She had did it. She finally won over the dual devils. Try though they might to find her, the blonde had scampered free from their clutches.
Which meant that they’d be running around like beheaded chickens, trying to find the girl and trying to avoid Varu at the same time. That was the perfect revenge. They’d panic trying to avoid the wrath of the cat-man, who would certainly behead them if he knew that their little princess had escaped.
Middling was the same as she had left it, before her powers had awakened. The trees were still there, the park was still brimming with kids, and her parents were probably still too busy thinking about themselves to care that their daughter was in the care of a man participating in a life or death battle over the fate of the world.
Well… It didn’t really matter, anyway. Tepin was in that same battle, even if she didn’t intend to play.
The park… didn’t really seem as inviting as it had before her change. She looked over at the swings and jungle gyms, which had been such a source of entertainment for her-- but now, they simply looked lonely. Without a Varu… she didn’t really think she could have fun anymore.
She stood as an outsider, watching the kids her age play with once another, yet feeling so entirely different from them.
After all, they didn’t have a God of War talking to them in their heads.

No - but one of them had a very persuasive woman constantly pushing Zyanya to do things that she didn't want to do. So at least Tepin wasn't alone. Today, however, Zy was doing something that her mother had asked her to do - and for once, she didn't mind. She liked her little brother. He was quiet, for the most part, and tended to listen to her. It made for a decent past time and it took so little to make the two year old happy.
Currently, she was sitting on a bench with the two year old in her lap who was playing with the feathers that had been braided into her hair and giggling up a storm. For the first time in a few days, there was a sense of peace about the ten year old.
"Be careful with the feathers, Danny." she murmured, one hand idly stroking the snake draped over one of her shoulders - situated to keep herself out of the two year old's way.

Admittedly… Without Varu or Sydders, she was lonely. Maybe she should have asked Seamus to come along. (She was, quite honestly, a little scared of Murphy after all the events that he had caused thus far). Still… She looked at the children spread out along the park. Some had engaged in a game of soccer, while most the older kids were either picking fights with one another or trying to look like they were too cool to be playing at the park. None of that sounded horribly interesting.
She wondered why they had even bothered to go… They didn’t need to bother to look cool if they stayed at home and played video games.
Still, she noted as she made her way over to the swings, dropping onto one unceremoniously and kicking her feet into the woodchips underneath, she wasn’t much different from them. She was here. She wasn’t a little kid, and yet she was here. She was even on the toys, she noticed with a sardonic smile.
Alright, so maybe she wasn’t an adult. But at least she was better… Different, at the very least. She had a God! She was a Player! That meant that the gods had picked her over every stupid kid in the park! They were all bints!
That’s right!! Bint children!! Running around like idiots! Only she knew what was really going on! She knew about the game! She was superior!
…..Even if she didn’t want to play.
Kicking off of the woodchips once more, she brought the wide arc of the swing into motion. She’d have to think, really. She needed to decide what she was going to do… How she was going to deal with this…. A quick and repetitive pumping of her legs kept her in motion as her mind focused elsewhere.
Was she going to play? Did she have a choice? What about Varu….? She didn’t want to fight him… But maybe she could back him up! Maybe they could form some kind of team… Even if she had to back down in the end, she’d do it. She could surrender… She could just give up, couldn’t she?
So… Why didn’t she do it already?
The swing reached the height of the arc, and where swings were prone to do when naughty children got too high, it jumped. Lost in thought, the girl could not comprehend this-- her grip loosened from the shock----
---And she went tumbling to the ground with a loud thud.

Zyanya had been too preoccupied with her little brother to notice the thud of the girl falling. It was a commonplace thing in the park to have children falling. It was even more commonplace to have them crying due to it and Zy had long ago learned to drown out the screams, cries, and general noises of other children that didn't belong under her care and protection.
However, Chalchiuhtlicue wasn't one to ignore certain things - and one of those things was other players in the game. She sensed it, and she could tell. An impatient hiss escaped the goddess as her attention clamped onto Tepin and didn't let go.
A player is right under your nose and you can't even tell. Do you have any idea how important it is to know who is playing?
"And do you have any idea how annoying you are?" Zyanya answered, furrowing her brows. "Who?"
Annoying?! Now she was annoying? The goddess made a displeased noise. The one who fell off the swing. You need to pay attention to your sixth sense. You have one, you know. You just need to learn to use it.
Zy rolled her eyes and carefully stood up, shifting Daniel onto her hip as she made her way over to the girl who was now laying in the woodchips, "Are you all right?" She asked, offering her free hand to help her up. Yectli looked displeased at the disturbance. She could deal.

She pulled herself up, woodchips sticking to her face and blood dripping down from her nose. It… hurt. Not so bad as some of her other injuries, but it wasn’t pleasant.
Still, it wasn’t anything to cry out about. Just something that happened.
But a girl had approached her. She was pretty, and she had a kid that looked around Sydni’s age. And a snake…? She looked a little bit older… But she was so much prettier than Tepin was! That wasn’t fair! Plus, Tepin didn’t have a cool pet like a snake!
Out of sheer jealousy, she dismissed the girl’s hand, opting to pull herself up and plopped onto her bum at the edge of the woodchips. Frowning down, she could see that while woodchips had stuck to her face, knees, and arms, she was otherwise unharmed….
Well, other than the blood slowly dribbling out of her nose.
“Yea.” She began her bothersome task of pulling the woodchips free from her skin-- the sweat quickly releasing them at the lightest of flicks. “I’m good. This is nothing!”
Fine! If that girl was going to be prettier, she’d just have to be tougher. It wasn’t anything all that special, being pretty, anyway!! Being tough was where it really mattered, when you weren’t a bint child, and when you played the game.
But, as if Varu was there frowning at her, she did something completely out of character. She had to be good if she wanted to live with him.
“Thanks, though.”

...Ugh, blood. That was not something that Zyanya really liked to deal with. It was gross, it smelled bad, and it stained. "I suppose," She said with a small shrug of her shoulders, "I suppose it wouldn't be as bad as you'd get in The Game." Head tilted forward, looking at the girl pointedly. She was younger than Zy was, but that hardly meant anything. If the kid didn't flinch over a bloody nose and wood chips in the skin, then...Well, yeah, it didn't mean anything at all.
The baby was shifted on her hip, both hands now holding him rather than extending one for help since it had ultimately been ignored.
What do you think you're doing? Chalchiuhtlicue hissed out as Zy mentioned the game. What part of incognito do you not understand?!
The Godling decided to ignore the goddess ranting in the back of her brain. It was unpleasant.
"I have a a baby wipe in Danny's bag if you'd like to clean up." They were expensive and she probably shouldn't offer them out, but really, blood. Not fun.

She grinned in spite of herself-- This girl was making it all too easy for Tepin to slip into her tough mind frame. Of course she’d have worse, even if it wasn’t during her time playing in the game.
“Nah, this is nothing big.” She wiped at her face with the back of her arm, before rubbing that on the grass in front of her. She wasn’t a baby! She sure as all heck wasn’t going to accept baby wipes! “It’s good.”
Wait!! The Game?! She had mentioned The Game! Tepin had heard her clear as crystal. Did that mean…. She had face marks, too… Her face instantly darkened into a glare. This girl had to be a player, if she brought that up.
“Do you play?” If she did-- they had to fight. That was how the game worked. The girl had a snake… Whether or not that was part of the fight didn’t matter. Tepin had to fight.
Even if all she had was her fists-- she had used them many times before-- and they hadn’t failed her yet.
But she had a snake… And a baby.
But that didn’t matter-- It was The Game. She’d figure something out.

"I wouldn't call it playing." Zyanya answered with a small shrug of her shoulders, turning her back and starting toward the bench again. If the girl wanted to continue to talk to her, she could follow her. But Daniel was heavy and she needed to sit down. Her form lowered onto the seat and the baby was once more settled down in her lap, petting at the snake who seemed to be enjoying the attention.
Tepin may have had it in her brain that she had to fight - but Zyanya wasn't willing to do that. She didn't want to fight. And she wouldn't unless she had to. Mostly because she didn't know how.

“But you’re a player, right?” She was following, alright, fists clenched together in a responsive anger. She had learned from Quinn’s words and Varu’s rage. Players were destined to fight. Even Varu and Quinn-- lovers doomed to fight to the death.
Even… Even she and Varu would need to fight once the time came to it.
So there was no reason why this girl had to be special. She had to find a way-- there had to be a way to get her somewhere, without others to interfere. Even if she had to fight her with the snake, and with the baby, she had to get away from all the others.
If she was a player, she must know. If she really was a player-- then she had to know that it was her fate to fight!! That’s why they were chosen! No matter how much they hated it, no matter how they were tricked into playing, they had accepted the responsibility. They were no longer children, they were players.
Tepin’s happy and painless childhood had been ripped from her so suddenly, learning that she had to fight her loved ones. There was no way this girl was going to get away with being seemingly unmolested by the Gods and their painful and heartless decisions. She wouldn’t stand for being the only one hurt because of this Game.
She wouldn’t let someone go unharmed, when she had to bear so much pain in her heart.

Brown eyes turned to the girl, trailing down to the clenched fists. "Yes." She said simply. There was no getting around it now - and she would never let Chalchiuhtlicue she was right. "But if you are looking for a fight, I'm not interested." There was only one reason for balled up fists when Zy had been nothing but kind to her. Sure, she'd provoked - but what kind of clues could she get otherwise? Not that the girl was offering clues as it was.
Besides, she wouldn't be attacked when she had a baby...right? The coral snake lifted her head to look at the girl who had followed her mistress, tasting the air and attempting to see what she could about her. Nothing. But really, she didn't seem like much a threat. So she remained being lazy.
"Would you like some crackers?" Hey, she was trying to be polite.

Her cloudy red-blue eyes glared back; she really was a player. That meant that they had to fight. She was around the same age… So there shouldn’t be a problem.
“I don’t want any stupid crackers!” She spat out, glaring down at the other girl seated on the bench.
How stupid was she? Crackers?! Seriously? Was she supposed to just drop her fate for some crackers?
Crackers would not pacify her!!
“Don’t be so naïve, you bint! You know what we have to do. Don‘t pretend like you don‘t!”
She was glaring her down now, waiting for some sort of a response, there was no reason why they shouldn’t fight. Not after the hell she had been put through with Varu and Writ. Now that she knew how scary the game was… She had to try her best too. She had to become just as scary as what she had seen all those days before.
She didn’t want to fall behind. She didn’t want to be abandoned.
She had to do this.

Bint? What the hell was a bint? And when did someone turn the 'crazy' switch on this girl? Zyanya blinked, staring at her with this dumbfounded look. "I don't know what you're talking about," she answered, "I don't have to do anything." Which was true. While she knew, in the end, it would come down to a physical confrontation...right now was not the end, nor the time for it. Especially when she had her little brother right there.
This girl is crazy.
Get used to it, Conetl.
"And your insulting me is not helping anything at all." No, Zy was completely determined not to let this escalate. Actually, she was feeling fairly uncomfortable. So, instead of remaining in her seat, the girl pushed herself up, adjusting Daniel and picking up the small diaper bag. "So I'm going to leave."

If there were less people-- that would have been that. She would have been on that girl like fire to oil. But there were too many witnesses. Too many eyes to see the game. And that… that was bad. That meant that there were too many people that would be all too willing to tear them apart…. Or worse, to give them to the police.
Being a missing persons and being involved with the police were not a good combination, not in the slightest.
“Fine-- But you might as well give up completely.” She snorted, her eyes lit with a fire of resentment, “Because there’s no way a pansy like you can even hope to win! Why do you even bother? Just go drown yourself already!”
The girl was so stupid! They had been blessed by the Gods and commanded to fight… And yet she refused to? Was she going to go up against the Gods like that after they had given her as much as they had? After they had made her special?!
She had no hope of winning-- not if she was going to be like that.

One thing was for sure - Zyanya didn't like this kid. She'd been fairly lucky in who she'd met so far. Everyone had been decently pleasant - even if Writ had made her dine and dash so long ago and Rafael was a dip, but well, she knew that long before the Game started.
Everyone has their way of playing, right, Chal?
There was a silence before a tired female voice came, Yes, conetl. Everyone has their way of playing. But today showed me how unprepared you really are. I think it's time for some training. And a bit of a boost as well.
I don't know if I like the sound of that.
You will not like a lot of things in days to come, conetl. Such is The Game.
Zy rolled her eyes. She already knew that much. But she had her own strategy, even if it didn't appear to be so just yet. I'm not going to lose.
And Chalchiuhtlicue hoped she was right.
