There was a sort of easy nonchalance involved in taking Fish to the beach. When Ophelia had been this small, Prosper hadn't been able to take his eyes off her for a minute - he was constantly terrified she'd wander into deep water and drown. But Fish - Prosper had accepted the silly nickname long ago, despite Phineas sounding far more dignified - could be allowed some autonomy. He was a strong swimmer and was hardly in any danger of drowning.
It was low tide, and Fish was splashing about in the tide pool, a bucket in hand.
"M looking for hermit crabs!" he called out to his father, and went on wading.
Oh to be young and easily amused! thought Prosper, resuming his hunt for sharks teeth.

Three. There were three children tagging along with her - and she was covered from head to toe with sun block, a floppy hat, and an oversized T-shirt. Really, who would ask a fair skinned Welsh woman to go out in the blistering sun and risk a sunburn? Oh. That's riiiight. Serra.
"Mommmy!" Serra called, tugging on the shirt, "Can I go in the water?" She'd gotten quite a bit bigger - she was no longer a toddler, no longer a baby. Not in her eyes. She could do things big kids did...right?
"Take Nerissa with you and keep an eye on her." Addie answered, laying down her towel and unfolding her umbrella which was stabbed down into the sand. "But first..." Sunblock was pulled out and she tugged her daughter down onto the towel, slathering her with the white substance quite literally.
Landon sat down beside her, completely content to remain in the shade. Too much sun. He liked sun, but he did prefer the coolness of a shadow. Besides, after the incident with the gold fish, he was no longer allowed near sea life.
As soon as Addie was done with her lotion, Serra got up and picked up the baby, carrying her (Rather, half dragging her) to the wet bar of sand. "Look, Rissa!" she told her sister, "He looks like you!"
Nerissa turned her green eyes over to Fish and smiled warmly. He didn't really look like her, but he looked more ocean like, at least, than others she'd met.
"Hey! You! Come play with my sister!" And Serra took off into the water, leaving a very confused mermaid sitting on the wet sand, blinking.

Fish's curiosity about the girl with the fin-tail and his dislike of being bossed around waged a short war at the back of his head, the result being his curiosity won. He dropped the shell he was inspecting back into the water, for it did not contain a crab, and skipped happily over towards the girl, sending a wave of splashes ahead of him as he ran.
"Hi," he declared. "'M Fish. What's your name?"
The other girl had already gone, and he was glad for it. She seemed far too bossy for his liking.

Nerissa watched with wide eyes as her elder sister ran off and left her alone with the boy. Absolute panic ran through her for several reasons. One, she couldn't walk or move on her own really - unless she wanted tired arms. Two, she didn't usually talk to people. Words were not something she liked to use!
So when her name was asked she looked shyly to the sandbar and bit her lip, letting silence hang there for a moment.
"Ris." She answered, not fully able to communicate all that well herself. But she was good with hand gestures. "...Sit?" It was a soft question, completely contrary to the demands of her elder sibling.

"Ris?" asked the little boy. Huh. Weird name. He shook his head. "No," he declared, indicating the sandbar. He did not want to sit, and although the smaller girl was not nearly as bossy, he was not keen on potentially being taken advantage of a second time.
"Wanna swim," he insisted, pointing back into the slough.
"You can swim," he asked warily, squinting at her. She had a fish tail! Of course she could swim. "Righ'?"

Oh, she could swim. Kind of. With her floaties. Actually, Addie never let her go very far from the shallow end without them when they went to public pools and the kiddie pool was, well, a kiddie pool. Green eyes moved to the vast expanse of water and scrunched her nose up, "Little." she answered, reaching out to poke at the water as the waves rode up the sand bar. Then with a little bit of reluctance, "Can't move much."
A very large, unhappy glare was given to her tail then and she flopped it around, "Help...? I'll try."
It was officially the most words she'd spoken in a string to...anyone but Serra.

Fish wrinkled his nose, slightly wary of girl cooties, and offered her his hands. "I pull," he explained, "Kay?"
He gave her a gentle tug, and then a harder one.
"Water is not too deep," he insisted. It was only about up to his chest - then again, he didn't have to worry about drowning but he had no idea if this girl did or not. She looked pretty fishy, but one couldn't be sure.

"Kay." Small hands fit into his and she allowed him to pull, helping as much as she could with the twitching of her tail. She DID manage to get up onto it, though was rather wobbly with the entire balance thing.
Theoretically? She didn't have to worry about drowning either. But she'd never tested that thought, and the one time she'd snorted water up her nose in the kiddie pool had not been pleasant. But she'd been smaller then.
Wobble time! She twitched her tail with determination, then, trying very hard to move forward on her own. Nerissa had managed slightly with Landon and Serra's help at one point, but she hadn't tried much since then. It had been rather disappointing to fall.
"Like water." Came after a moment, a small smile tugging on her lips.

"Me too," agreed Fish, bouncing a little bit. He looked around, and then at the girl. This had seemed like a good idea but now he wasn't so sure what to do next.
Maybe she'd know.
"Whatcha wanna do?" he asked, lips puckering in curiosity.
