† Biography

† A small three year old was staring into the cold fireplace. A log sat there but it was cold. “Mommy?” she called.
“Yes, Albany?” A woman about the age of thirty walked into the room.
“Can we have a fire?”
The woman smiled. “Only if you can talk your father into it or you manage to without hurting yourself.”
Albany pouted. Her father hated fire and having one in the house. He had taught her how to open the flu and make sure the smoke would exit the house. It was open and she just sat there staring at the log; wishing that it would catch fire. She made a flicking motion with her hand that looked similar to striking a match. All of a sudden, the log was blazing and the fire flew out and licked her arm before she could move.
Of course, the girl screamed which had her mother running.
“Albany?”
The little girl was crying. Her arm was red and splotchy from the flame. Her mother put up the grate in front of the fire place before gathering her into a hug.
“You shouldn’t play with fire, dear.”
Albany nodded as her mother wrapped her arm carefully in gauze. Her father was furious with her for starting the fire. Afraid that she would be in greater trouble next time, she didn’t attempt to set anything else on fire.
A year later, when Albany was four, her parents decided to go on a trip.
“What are you doing, mommy?”
Albany was standing in the door frame; halfway in, halfway out.
Her mother seemed to fumble over words. “Your father and I are going on a trip but we need you to watch over your grandparents while we’re gone, okay?”
Albany nodded and almost whacked her head into the door frame. “Okay. Where are you guys going?”
Her mother came over to her and bent down almost to her height. “We’re going to go to Hawaii. We’d take you but your father is afraid that the fire dancers will scare you.”
"Okay," she looked a bit sad and her head hung a bit.
Her mother put her finger under her chin and raised it till her eyes were level with her daughter's. "I'll get you something if you don't pout."
That had Albany smiling. "Okay." She grinned and ran to her room and jumped onto her bed and grabbed her stuffed rabbit. "We're going to Grandpa's house," she told her bunny excitedly.
Her mother stood up and walked to watch her daughter's excitement. Albany told her bunny everything they would do with Grandpa and how Mommy would get them something. She just kept talking making up elaborate plans and ideas. The bunny remained silent but then again, stuffed bunnies don't talk. They only listen.
After an hour or so, Albany was lying on her bed asleep. Her bunny in a tight hug. Albany's mother walked in quietly and put together a backpack full of her clothes. When she finished, she set the backpack next to the door.
Albany woke up the next morning and she went with her parents to her grandparents house. "Be good," her mother told her.
Albany smiled broadly and nodded. She held her bunny tightly and stood slightly behind her grandpa's leg.
((It's not finished yet. At least now it's up. I'll definitely finish within the next three weeks.))
