Voldemort, as usual when he went basically any place in the daylight, looked very out of place. He was wearing his black cloak, as always, and in the harsh sun he stood out like a sore thumb. But not many people had access to this island, and he had just Apparated there to continue his documentation of the local reptile species.
He pulled his hood up to shield his sensitive red eyes from the sun. He was near blind in the light if he didn't use a proper Charm, so the hood was a necessity more than a "fashion statement". Same went for the long robe; his almost white skin did not take kindly to sunlight. If the price for a new body and immortality was a black cloak, he would gladly take it.
Just a nice relaxing day, no one to bother him, no distractions. Except he had brought Godfrey along.
Voldemort thought of it spur of the moment, and had just wanted to do something with Godfrey away from the mansion. it wasn't planned, and it was very out of the ordinary...
Voldemort stood with his bare feet in the sand with the young boy besides him, soaking in the sight for a moment and wondering just what in the name of Merlin he was doing here.

"Mmmm..." Godfrey tilted his face up towards the sky, soaking in the sunlight. It was an extraordinarily beautiful day today, but the warmth of the sunshine, the feel of the sea spray on his skin, the feel of sand under his- Godfrey pulled off his shoes and dug his toes into the substrate - under his feet was wonderful, but nothing compared to the fact that Voldemort had invited him along to help with a project of his.
Godfrey laughed in delight, unable to help sprinting down towards the water until the waves could lap at his feet and ankles, cool water washing over his skin. He wanted to go swimming, but maybe they would get a chance to later, when they were finished.
"So... what do we need to do first?" Godfrey turned, letting the water wash over him still, and crossed his arms behind his head, clasping his hands together.

Voldemort smiled slightly, watching Godfrey enjoy the sunlight, the sand. He knew it would be nice to get away from the mansion- it did get rather dreary, and ever since Godfrey had broken up with Josh he had been rather uninterested in lessons. He was just starting to warm up again, so a little "vacation" seemed like a good idea.
Voldemort blinked against the light, adjusting his hood so it was more in the way of the sun. He took a deep breath of the clean, salty air, glancing over his shoulder to where the trees were. He looked back to where Godfrey was, shoes discarded in the sand, enjoying the ocean. "Well. You could see if you can spot a seasnake. Extremely poisonous but very docile in nature."

"What do they look like?" Godfrey asked, unafraid of the mention of poison. He knew Voldemort would keep him safe.
Godfrey released his arms and looked around himself, hoping to spot something. "Do they like the shallow water?"
Maybe he'd get to go swimming sooner than he'd thought!

"They are black and white striped with flat tails for swimming. Very abundant around this island since the water is so warm. They do stick to shallows because it's warmer and easier to catch prey there..."
Voldemort smiled a bit, but only because he knew his face was hidden in shadow. It actually was rather nice to have someone along for once. Voldemort did enjoy his solitude but it was growing boring, losing interest. But with Godfrey things always stayed interesting, exciting even, and it was a pleasant and much needed change.

"Okay!" Godfrey nodded, sharply, turning to scour the water in front of him. The water was crystal clear, so it wouldn't be hard to spot any creatures.
Unfortunately nothing was likely to be out in the clear shallow water in the middle of bright daylight.
"What are you going to be looking for? Or..." Godfrey waded a bit deeper into the water, and then paused to roll his jeans up to his knees with some difficulty. "Or are you going to come into the water too?"
He didn't think so, not with that heavy robe. Maybe he could make some sort of sun lotion for Voldemort, so that next time he could leave the heavy robes behind.

"You looked like you wanted a swim. I was just going to stay here and watch for now... enjoy the warmth for once." As if to prove the point he sat down in the sand, legs crossed. He dug his fingers into the warmth, letting the sand slip through his fingers.
"Unless I was mistaken and you weren't looking to swim at all?"

Godfrey blushed, reaching up to scratch at the back of an ear. "Was I really that obvious?"
But in the next moment he'd peeled off his shirt and thrown it towards Voldemort on the beach, then turned and splashed into the deeper end of the shallows. He put his hands together and dived down into the water, kicking hard with his feet and spraying water up from the surface.
Godfrey frog-kicked under the water, squinting at first at the sting of the salt, but then started to look around and below him for signs of animal life. He came up a minute or so later about twenty feet away from where he'd started, taking a deep breath as soon as he broke the surface, wet curls plastered to his forehead and clinging to his back and shoulders.
"There's some coral down here, and small fish. Think I should check there?"

Laughs a bit, the wet Godfrey looking rather pitiful and cute with his furry ears wilted rather than perked up as usual. Voldemort took out a small notebook and a pencil, scribbling something down and looking thoughtful.
He shook his head, yelling so he was sure he would be heard. "Whatever you like!" Chuckles and looks back down at his notebook, tapping the end of the pencil against it. He felt truly content here. Godfrey often made him feel this way; at peace. But being here in the sand with the warm sun beating down, absorbing into his black robes like it had a hunger to heat him, was just blissful. He had a moment of self doubt to wonder what he had done to deserve moments such as this, but beat the thought back stubbornly. He was done with the self loathing.

Godfrey shrugged, kicking his feet and treading water. He took another deep breath and dived down, kicking hard to go down ten feet, fifteen. The small clumps of coral- as big as a small car but looking more like scattered rocks from above- were teaming with more life than they'd appeared to from the surface.
Tiny fish swam away and hid between flowing strands of underwater plants and anemones. Careful not to be stung, Godfrey tried to peer into cracks to see if he could find a snake-
-oh! He thought he spied one, darting back into a hole. But upon closer inspection it turned out to be just an eel.
Eventually Godfrey returned to the surface for more air, and splashed around a bit before diving again, exploring the small clumps of coral and sea life.
After about fifteen minutes he finally saw something- a black and white creature winding in-between the rocks. He tried to hold his breath for as long as possible, following it, and eventually coaxed it gently away from its hiding spot.
It started to swim lazily away, but Godfrey followed, even though he knew he only had about a minute left before he had to go up for air. Gently he swam beside it and put his hands under its body, lifting it up to the surface. It didn't really protest, and Godfrey made sure to keep his hold loose- trying to tease it to move upwards, instead of grabbing it.
"I found one!" Godfrey shouted as soon as he caught his breath, coughing a little on some sea water but otherwise alright. He held the snake- it wasn't a long one, about four feet- in his hands as he swam on his back towards shore, not stopping until he felt his shoulder blades dig into beach sand.
"He's pretty, isn't he?" Godfrey pushed himself a bit further up the beach with his feet, letting the snake slither lazily on top of his chest and weave through his fingers. He tilted his head back so he could get a better look at Voldemort, even though water then sloshed in his ears.

Voldemort waited, watching diligently from the shoreline. He glanced down at what he had written and frowned a bit, putting the scrawlings away and standing up so he had a better view. Godfrey wasn't that far out so he could still make him out since the water was so clear. There were plenty of things in the water that could hurt the boy, but nothing that could hurt him before Voldemort could stop it, and certainly nothing that could hurt him passed Voldemort's ability to heal. Still... he took a few steps forward so his bare feet just touched the edge of the beach where the sand darkened from the constant waves.
Voldemort relaxed visibly as Godfrey surfaced, supporting the small snake in his palm. Voldemort crouched down again, putting his hand into the water so the snake could swim up over his fingers. It seemed to have a natural attraction to him, as most snakes, eagerly leaving Godfrey to get closer. "Very pretty." Smiles, keeping his hand in the water underneath the snake and running his other hand over it's scaled back. "It's good you found one so quick, they're probably still abundant around here. Clean water, lots of hiding spots, food. It's nice to find a habitat with it's wildlife intact..." Trails off, the snake absently weaving in and out of his long fingers.

Godfrey smiled, turning on his side so he could watch Voldemort with the sea snake. It really was a beautiful animal- Godfrey reached out and lightly stroked its flat tail, briefly touching Voldemort's fingers as the snake slid around.
Nearly twenty minutes of diving wasn't enough to really burn off all of Godfrey's energy, but he felt content with the sun on his skin and the water lapping over his legs.
"Would you teach me to say 'hello?'" Godfrey suddenly asked, propping his head up on his chin. "You know, in parsletongue?"

"Well, it isn't something that can be taught, really, as you probably already know. When you speak parseltongue you don't do it consciously, more your lips translate what your mind is saying without any will of your own. Wizards are born with the ability, not taught it" He trailed off for a moment watching the seasnake, the sleeves of his robes getting wet now as he was leaning in the waterto be able to handle it without taking it out.
"It isn't a matter of listening and copying. Your vocal cords simply wouldn't be able to mimic it in a way that would be understandable to the snake." He spoke this factually, his eyes on Godfrey now. The snake seemed content to stay nearby without any coaxing from either of them, though it could have easily slipped away.

Godfrey frowned, furrowing his brow. "But I can try, please? Maybe the snake would like it anyways..."
Godfrey pushed himself up, scooting further up onto the beach and out of the water. He wanted to at least see if he could maybe say something. "...if I could say hello.. say anything... I bet the snakes would like it."
He leaned back on his hands, frowning pensively and absently digging his heels into the wet sand.
