Spring had sprung. With the return of warmer weather many more Soquilis were out and about. Echo's Song sighed briefly as she stared at her reflection in the stream she had found. Her long white mane and tail looked like they could join the clouds reflection from the sky above. The mare kicked a pebble into the water which sent ripples through the image of herself - distorting the image.
That was how Echo felt - distorted. New to the land she hadn't had the time to socialize and make friends. That would change - in time. Lowering her head to the water Echo took a few long gulps of water before folding her legs underneath her for a long deserved rest. Socializing would come after.

A cheerful tune filled the air around the stallion as he seemingly pranced about, jumping into the air and fluttering back to the earth. It wasn't very often that he was found doing this, and he'd surely be ruined had a mare seen him. He was on his way to see an old friend, only for something to catch his eye.
Immediately, Amitola's frolicking stopped, and he wandered closer to investigate, only to grin to himself. A mare. Oh joy. A cheery voice rang out among the sweet spring air, directed at the mare. "Hello, there, miss! Lovely day, is it not?"
She looked rather tired, and he wasn't sure if it was such a great idea to be bothering her. Too late.

Echo's ears pricked forward as the sound of singing reached them. It was only a few minutes later when someone spoke from behind her and Echo raised her head to glance at the speaker. She couldn't help the reaction that followed next. Giggles erupted from inside and she struggled to contain them.
Even with her odd appearance there was something out of this world about the stallion standing nearby. Bright colors, wings and a horn met her gaze as she managed to control the laughter inside.
"It is a lovely day I suppose."
Rising to her feet Echo's Song glanced around her before eying the stallion once again.
"And who might you be?"

As if a dying flower, Amitola seemingly drooped at the mare's reaction and let out a sigh. Trying to shrug it off, the stallion perked up once more, a confident air surrounding him. He fluttered his wings a bit to shake the bad feelings away and smiled.
"Well, I might be a two-legger, or perhaps a figure of your imagination. My name, however, is Amitola." A smug grin replaced the smile before he asked, "May I have the honor of learning your name?"

Echo's laughter had dried up it seemed. As she watched Amitola flutter his wings she suddenly became very curious. All thoughts of sleep fell to the wayside. The mare supposed that she was grateful for the stallion for showing up when he did. Her gaze locked onto Amitola's as he spoke and she gave a half-smile.
"I doubt that you are a figure of my imagination. It would have to mean that I am having auditory hallucinations as well. Therefore I tend to believe that a rainbow stallion is standing before me and seeking my name."
Echo took a breath after this. She wasn't used to such conversation. "You ask of my name. It is Echo's Song. If you want ... you can call me Echo though. However, I haven't been entirely kind to you though Amitola. I must apologize for that."

Amitola grinned. "Hallucinations aren't all that bad, are they? Besides, only my front half is rainbowy." He winked at her and fluttered his wings a bit out of habit. He really did need to break that.
The stallion smiled warmly at the mare. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Echo. And no hard feelings. I can understand your amusement. It's not every day you see one as... Oddly colored as me. The color comes from my father, the wings come from my mother. Quite the colorful combination, they are."

Echo looked Amitola over once again before grinning as he spoke. The wings the stallion possessed intrigued the mare as they moved of their own accord and although she wished to ask about them she managed to hold her tongue this time. She smirked at the stallion before speaking.
"I think your assessment of your rainbow-y parts needs a little evaluation. I think you missed out on your tail. It's certainly got multiple hues to it. And you are right. I haven't seen one as oddly colored as you appear. That may be of my own fault though as I have been a little anti-social since I came to these lands. I myself seem to be rather oddly colored as well."
Echo lowered her head to grasp a few tender shoots of grass in her teeth. With a quick jerk she tore the grass upwards and munched silently on the vegetation as she waited for Amitola's reply.

Amitola waved his loin's tail in front of his own face and examined it before smiling and nodding. "Well I suppose you've got me on that one, Miss Echo. My tail does have more color than I've given it credit for." He was tempted to spit out a remark like, 'Would you like to see what else is colorful?' or, 'I bet you I could make you see colors for a whole week,' and he would have if it weren't for him wanting to change his ways. "Time to grow up," he'd told himself. And this is what he'd been trying to accomplish.
"Well then welcome to the Soquili Lands. And miss, please do believe me when I say you're not nearly as much of an outcast as you set yourself up to be. There are many who are much less fortunate than you when it comes to colors. I find your appearance to be quite lovely." The stallion smiled and nodded politely.

Echo finished chewing the grass that she had torn from the ground as she listened to Amitola. Her ears flicked back and forth briefly as she mulled over his statement. The grass she had just finished chewing though nearly came right back up at the thought that this stallion found her lovely. The mare knew she was blushing at that comment. Echo could feel the infusion of heat and she mentally scolded herself to stop acting like a filly with her first crush. She hoped Amitola wouldn't see the empirical evidence of his words among her darkened coat.
"I thank you for your welcome Amitola and also for the compliment. But I am an outcast of sorts. I reacted very poorly when you came upon my resting spot. I just do not feel I have the right social niceties required for interacting with others."
Pondering over her own words Echo was quick enough to add, "and I'm not usually this downcast about the matter either. It's just a sad state when I believe I can't go and make acquaintances with the chance of being ridiculed."

Amitola didn't notice the mare's flustered reaction, and nabbed a mouthful of grass for himself while listening. Usually, he'd never eat in front of a female. He considered it to be rude, and wouldn't want to risk his chances of getting laid. But he'd changed his outlook. Females were equals, not toys. Besides, he was rather hungry.
He hurried himself to swallow the nutrients when the mare finished her thought, and tried to reply without looking as if he were hesitating. "There's no need to thank me for good manners. 'Specially since I usually wouldn't have them anyway." The stallion let out a quick chuckle before promptly adding, "Well then perhaps you shouldn't believe that? Seems like a simple solution enough to me. It's not exactly the first time I've been laughed at for my appearance. And why be so worried? If others don't like you, they don't. Simple as that. Nothing you can do 'bout it. Just be yourself, and things should go along well."

Drat.
Amitola had made a reasonable observation that she had clearly overlooked. Why should she have to worry about others opinions and if they wanted to be friends? Echo paused briefly before replying and merely watched the stallion before her. There had apparently been no notice of her earlier mishap and now she was content to try and keep it that way.
"I guess in a sense you are perfectly right Amitola. I shouldn't have to worry about what others with think of me. If they do not like me it will not be my fault."
With that being said the mare fell silent again and reached down for another quick mouthful of grass. She chewed it as she waited for any response from Amitola.
It's not like either of us has objected to eating in front of the other. Besides I'm suddenly very hungry.

Amitola merely grinned. "You see? Life's so simple when you don't care. Well... Some parts of it, anyway. Please don't take it too far on my account." He chuckled softly and took another bite of grass. It didn't seem very filling, but it was sweet. One of the many things he loved about Spring.
The stallion grunted quietly to himself as he swatted a mosquito away from his ear with his tail. One of the few things he disliked about Spring. But everything came with its ups and downs... Including mares. And himself. His thoughts started wandering and it wasn't until his wings fluttered unvoluntarily that he snapped out of his daze.

Echo observed Amitola for a moment before she paced towards the stream she had been lying next to before the stallion had appeared. Her thoughts raced as she took a few long draughts of the cool liquid and she tried to make sense of what she had been told. It seemed to be an interesting idea - this not caring too much about what others might think. The mare glanced up quickly before noticing Amitola's far-off look.
She snickered softly to herself as her mischievous side arose in her. Lowering her head to the water Echo took another long draught of the stream but she did not swallow the liquid. Slowly she resumed a position where she was able to see Amitola and she flicked her tail idly. How odd she must appear. But if this worked it would be priceless. A low nicker drifted from her body as she tried to catch Amitola's attention.
