And by crazy, I don't mean a bit strange. I mean all-out, brain-warped, living-in-a-floating-castle schizophrenic.
My aunt has been mentally unstable for years. We just dismissed her as being a bit wonky at first, but about three years ago she really went downhill. Now she's completely mad. She's claimed that she can see people in alternate dimensions. She tried to send pain to my mother over the telephone. She thought she had a disembodied head shaking in her freezer. And lately - although this one is absolutely hilarious - she spent several minutes in a grocery store trying to convince my mother and me that there's a conspiracy to shrink the quantities of food we buy and that we've been brainwashed by the grocery stores.
And they just let her out of the hospital.
The only hope at this point is for my mother to get guardianship of her and either get her into a group home or get her treated for her mental disease (which we are fairly sure is schizophrenia). She can't take care of herself; she lives on chicken and cookies even though she's diabetic, and every spring she ends up getting into some kind of accident and needs rescued.
And they just let her out of the hospital.
Her caseworker is at her wits' end. Nobody can stand to stay at her house and help her, because even when she's not delusional she's screaming about random crap. The hospital won't keep her, because eventually she manages to feign sanity long enough to escape. And the police can't do anything because she isn't technically endangering herself.

Sucks to be you. I don't have an insane relative. Closest I've got is an father with a temper shorter than his d**k and a sister with an EQ of kid in second grade. Which I have test results to prove...
