A motley gang of palui stood by the beach. The lions were terrorizing the doggy types in an obvious example of sheer intimidation in numbers. An earth and ice stood idly by. Still, the waters were clear and alive with potential meals and it was a pleasant, uneventful day. A tall rock gave them shelter and a place to store their fruits.

((We don't have to RP with all of my palui. I just wanted to give you a choice))

A trio of Palu made their way slowly to the sandy shoreline for an afternoon of sunbathing. They were an unlikely group, comprised of a normal, neutral palu male, a meek tigress half-breed female, and a multicolored panther-spotted male.

While the female hung back and seemed to keep to herself, it was obvious the two males didn't get along; at least, it was obvious that the neutral male harbored some sort of grudge against the other. While the panther-spotted male trotted on ahead with his head up and his chest puffed out confidently, the brown male slunk behind him with his ears flattened and his tail hung low behind him.

Trailing the two was the tiger-striped lioness; larger than the other two, she appeared to have the least amount of fight in her as she gazed shyly about the beach. She was the first to spot the rather large group of Palu crowded beneath the shallow rocky overhang. "U-hm... Guys..." She began quietly, lowering her ears and picking up the pace to catch up with them, "m-maybe we should slow down... a bit... or.... or change directions... or something..."

The brown male, Tanuki, stopped first to look back at her with a bit of annoyance in his green gaze, "Kitoko, what's the matter? Would you just spit it out already?" His response made the tigress stop short and look at her paws uneasily. "Well, you see... I... um--" Her response was cut off by the sudden, excited cry of the multicolored palu ahead of them.

"Hey, check it out!" Hunter called, deep purple gaze locked onto something a little further down the beach, "Looks like we've got some company!" His long tail waved jubilantly behind him as he waited for the other two to catch up. "I wonder if any of them are females?" He mused aloud, grinning excitedly, "Let's go introduce ourselves!"

"Ah! N-no! Hunter... please... Don't!" Kitoko tried to stop him, but to no avail; the spotted male was already making his way over to the group, so she and Tanuki had no choice but to follow after him and make sure he didn't get himself killed. "Tch.... Idiot..." Tanuki growled lowly as they trailed after.

Hot Chocolate and Gesar were always the odd ones out. As a result, they politely removed themselves from present company as a ruckus, as always, was about to erupt. They came to the beach for a reason: to relax.

Slinking off, Gesar lay on the shoreline half submerged by the incoming tide and the non-loquacious Hot Chocolate followed. Gesar began a tale of mythic proportions and as she listened intently, she buried him with the wet sand. There was an easy friendship and it didn't hurt that she also liked mushrooms. Despite his role as the storyteller, Gesar was the first one to notice the intruding trio, and nudged Hot Chocolate in their general direction. The shared a secret smile. The cats and dogs would notice soon anyway. Sighing, Gesar started up his tale again.

True to any spry youth, Ankimo was the one leading the playful attack against the dog palui, Siats and Kefka. Behind him, in an effort to fit in, was the newest addition to their group, Shabu Shabu. She was the second female in the group and despite that fact, she aligned herself more with Ankimo because of their shared lion traits instead of the other female, Hot Chocolate. Antagonizing others wasn't her thing as she was more of a schemer but in time she would realize that. From an outsider's perspective it seemed like the lion and dog palui never got along, but it was just friendly competition.

It all started when the gluttonous Ootoro suggested a fishing game. Whoever caught the largest would win a most special prize: fresh strawberries stolen from a nearby coalition. Cause they all knew food tasted better when stolen.

Siats and Kefka, never willing to back down, were an easy target for the lion palui. But their diligence and devotion compensated them. For the lions were cunning and sly, but oh so very lazy.

"Hey, my fish is larger than yours." Siats said.

"That's not a fish but a cluster of barnacles"
Ankimo tried not to laugh when he said that.

"What does it matter? It's still edible."

"Hey guys, I caught something, too"

"Shabu Shabu, darling, seaweed does not count."
Ootoro shook his head while mentally facepalming.

"Yes it does."

"Oh no you didn't" Kefka interjected. And so the fight began.

Ootoro finally noticed the impending trio. He chuckled slightly to himself. In a way, the tigress lion, raccoon looking neutral and rainbow panther neutral were in the same surreal world Ootoro and his crew were. Ootoro was a fish looking lion; Ankimo another fish. Shabu Shabu was a lion inspired from a cheetah, another feline. As for Siats and Kefka, well, he liked to think of them as wolf-like types.

He welcomed the trio, a sly look on his face. Eventually the others in his group would notice.

"Hello, would you like to join our luau?" he asked.

Heading the trio, Hunter eyed the male that spoke up first, a lion-type like Kitoko was -- except he seemed a bit more confident. Offering a smile, equally as confident in his own mind, the leopard palu responded cordially, "Yes, that would be lovely, thank you!" His attention was soon captured by the brown and white ice palu near the water. Without a second thought, he veered away from the lions and dogs and headed straight for her.

Meanwhile, Tanuki and Kitoko were left to stare down the rest of the group of unfamiliar palu and acknowledge their 'brother's' actions. "Tch... What a moron; doesn't he think of anything else?" Tanuki began in a quiet hiss, laying his ears back and avoiding eye contact with the others out of shame for the leopard.

Kitoko shuffled her forepaws in the sand quietly, and ducked her head shyly before glancing back up at the other group. "...Thank you..." She mewed softly to the lion who had first spoken to them, "it would be... um... l-lovely... erm... we would like to join... I mean... if you don't mind, that is..." Her fur warmed considerably, making the meek female drop her gaze again and stare at her paws. She felt perhaps, that her fur would burst into flames and that she would attain a miraculous attunement right there.

The brown male ceased his flustered glowering for a moment to stare at the tigress in bewilderment. He could feel the heat radiating from the striped female and it made him slightly uncomfortable. "Geez, what's gotten into you all of a sudden?" He asked rather tactlessly, "They just asked you a simple question... You're gonna freak them out. Knock it off, Kitoko." Being the oldest, Tanuki often felt burdened by the other two, but he sighed and smiled despite himself.

"So, what are you all doing out here?" He asked the lions and dogs before them, his ears still tilted back at a slight, uneasy, angle.

Meanwhile, Hunter, his chest fluffed proudly, had made his way over to the fluffy brown and white female and was admiring her burial of the elder male. "My, what a refreshing vision of beauty to find on such a stiflingly warm summer day!" He sighed dramatically, grinning down at her softly, "My dear, pretty, lady, would you be bothered by my joining you this afternoon?" His tail waved sensuously, high in the air behind him as he spoke in a gentle growl.

Gesar's harmonious voice was disrupted when one of the OTHERS came by. An unwelcome intrusion. Hot Chocolate glared as the platitudes rolled over her back like the nearby waves. The sensual tail movement did not go unnoticed. "Go away or sit down and be quiet. We can talk later," frostily commanded Hot Chocolate. She wanted a relaxing day at the beach and this highstrung walking rainbow might not be what the shaman ordered. Actually, at the front of the agenda was her desire for Gesar to finish his story. This one was typically engrossing. If the leopard was still around afterwards she would talk to him. Weren't there others for him to be Chatty Cathys with?

Gesar nodded at the other youth and continued his story.

Ootoro noticed the exchange between the tigress and the raccoon looking one. The latter must be the eldest. He also smirked at the leopard's gallivanting ways. Kitoko, the tigress looked uneasy. Stepping inside her boundaries he shoved a strawberry in her mouth. Girl needed to loosen up some. "Food is good" he eventually said, looking down to inspect his claws, the ever present grin creeping up to new heights.

By that time Siats and Kefka had noticed. Siats had been with Ootoro the longest and was used to his quirks. "The MORE the MERRIER," Siats offered. "We're having a luau and we have the tastiest strawberries" he looked away into the horizon. Things were going to get boring quick. They had enough strawberries for all of them but it would run out soon and then what will they do?

Taking his father's lead, Kefka walked up to the other male, hoping to appear more welcoming to compensate for Ootoro's delicate way of dealing with things. "Hi, I'm Kefka. And my father there is Siats. Today's a regular day at the beach. Are you up for a swim?" Kefka pawed at the sand while waiting for an answer, his tail occasionally flicking his tail back and forth.

Shabu Shabu and Ankimo stared at the new palui. Shabu Shabu hid behind Ankimo's wild hair, holding her tail in between her mouth. There was a new girl. Ankimo moved toward the large rock. Shabu Shabu followed, wary of the newcomers.

The female's frosty disinterest washed over Hunter like a wave and his fur seemed to deflate as his ears fell back slightly. Lowering his tail in a pensive curve, he glanced over at the geezer and could feel his displeasure as well. As the old palu resumed his story, the spotted youngster began to inch away from them.

He had been completely dismissed.

Meanwhile, Kitoko released a startled squeak, that was quickly muffled by the strawberry being popped into her mouth by the strange-looking lion. Getting to her paws quickly, she stumbled back away from him, and bit down on the juicy strawberry in the process. She chewed it up thoughtfully and swallowed, but didn't say anything immediately. His grin freaked her out a little.

Tanuki tilted his head at the canine palu and took a sidelong glance at the waves lapping the shore. "Sure, a swim sounds nice. I'm burning under all this fur!" He noticed the look of surprise on Kitoko's face and shifted his gaze from her to the lion. "You okay, Kitoko??" He asked, a grin making its way to his face.

Kitoko nodded rapidly and lowered her ears. "I...I'm fine!" She pawed at the sand a little, glancing back to Ootoro, "um... That was.... tasty...." She flicked her tail with interest and her gaze traveled behind him, searching for more of the delicious berries. "Oh yea!" Catching herself, the tigoness fixed her eyes on the male before her again. "My.... my name is Kitoko! Ah... can... can I have another?"

Tanuki, realizing his mistake as well, smiled sheepishly back at Siats, "That's right! My name is Tanuki, and the moron bothering your companions over there is Hunter." A spotted tail thumped him on the head at the completion of his introduction, and his head shot up to Hunter's slightly irritated face.

Who are you calling a moron, Tanuki?" He growled, his mood soured from the cold rejection, "I'd rather my first impression wasn't ruined by the likes of you."

"Nice to see you, too, Hunter..." The coon-masked male responded. Just as he was about to leave the presence of the other male and head down to the surf, a light jingling sound caught his attention. Brown ears angled toward the sound, and he gazed further up the beach curiously.

Sprinting down to the beach as fast as her legs would carry her, a light, buff-colored Cocker Spaniel sent sand flying in huge plumes behind her. "Wait for me!" She barked shrilly as she came closer to the group. Tanuki, Hunter, and Kitoko all watched her curiously as she made her way to them. Sending a spray of sand flying at the others as she skidded to a stop before them, the young female wagged her stub of a tail furiously. "Hello! I'm so happy I made it!" She barked excitedly, her eyes dancing.

"That's great... but who are you, exactly?" Tanuki began, uncertainly. The pup's ears fell back and she seemed to adopt a displeased expression. "I'm your new sister, duh~!" She responded impatiently, "My name is Takara! You guys can call me Tak or Taka or something though, I don't really care!"

This earned her surprised looks from both Hunter and Kitoko as well.

Ootoro grinned. He had a convert. Yes, the lure of the ruby jeweled fruit was mighty. Furthermore, the other group was ready to play. Ootoro glanced at the ice and earth who isolated themselves. They were oblivious to everything but their story, even the new addition to the other's group. Ootoro wandered to where other strawberries were, getting an additional one for the tan colored palui.

Kefka and Siats immediately shifted attention to the new canine palui. That shrill was unmistakable. That ears and coat, undeniable. It was a cocker spaniel type. Kefka looked to her father with excitement, waiting to take his cue from his father. Siats nodded mid-stride. Barking, he galloped gaily to the newcomer. He abruptly stopped a few feet away causing a fast foot Kefka to stumble into his backside. "Takara, I am Siats. And this here is Kefka. Welcome to our luau. Would you like some strawberries."

Ankimo rolled his eyes. Dogs were so transparent. They never left anything to the imagination and were so straightforward. Ankimo was more interested in Hunter, Kitoko and Tanuki's reaction.

Shabu Shabu shrieked. There was a large shadow encroaching the shoreline from the waters. It was surrounded by a pool of what seemed like blood. Tiny things were sticking out. "SHARK. SHARK ATTACK" she yelled.

Instantly, Takara's attention was grabbed by the two canines that came up to greet her. With her ears perked attentively, the Cocker female smiled brightly and wagged her little tail. "Siats and Kefka. Interesting names; I like them!" She yipped excitedly, "A luau sounds super fun! Count me in!" Her new 'siblings' completely forgotten now, Takara trotted right up to the other two puppy palus and sniffed at their muzzles eagerly, "I've never had strawberries before, but they smell good!"

Meanwhile, Hunter, Kitoko, and Tanuki blinked at one another with bemused expressions. "Did you know about her, Hunter?" Tanuki chirred quietly, fully aware that the leopard male was holding the same blank look as he.

"Are you kidding? The only reason I'm out with you two today is because you wouldn't let me go see Akiko..." The multicolored male responded with a slight glare, "That human you interact with must be behind it..." The tiger-striped lioness didn't say anything, but she did keep an eye on the pup as she padded away from them to interact with the dogs from the other group.

The sudden shrieking yowl from the other lioness startled Kitoko, and she looked out at the water in alarm. Sure enough, something seemed to be making it's way towards the shore. "Ah!" She gasped, realizing that the palu who chased Hunter off earlier were still over there, "L-look out! You have to get away!"

It was the loudest either of the males had heard her speak before, and Hunter reacted immediately. Paws carrying him down the beach swiftly, and long tail streaming out behind him, he locked his eyes on the submerged shadow. "You heard her! Get back away from the water!" He growled at the brown female and the old geezer she was with as he passed. Water sprayed over his fur as he splashed into the surf and lunged for the creature that posed a threat to their new acquaintances.

Kitoko's tail lashed behind her as she watched the scene below anxiously, and Tanuki could only sit back uselessly as Hunter took action. Not completely certain of what was going on, Takara glanced over as well and tipped her head to the side slightly; did leopards know how to swim, she wondered.
