Cullan was strolling about the island, completely unaware of where he was going. It had become somewhat of a routine for him to take a walk every day. He found the nice, light breeze comforting and was able to relax easily during his strolls. He had found that he made some of the best discoveries while on his afternoon walks. It was while Cullan was remembering this that he wandered into a clearing in the middle of the forest. He was then distracted by the wonderful floral smell in the air and the beauty of the clearing he'd found.

The forest was peaceful and quiet, void of any movement or so it seemed. This was the perfect place for Irisa to relax. She lay on a rock, half asleep, taking in some sun. Normally she would never be this calm, in fact usually she'd be pacing nervously somewhere. But when she was this deep in the forest she could let her guard down, or so she thought. Irisa was pretty skilled in running away though she even if something did find her she could easily escape right?

Cullan wandered a little farther into the clearing, not even noticing Irisa laying on a rock. His coat shone in the light of the sun. It was after a few moments that he finally laid eyes on Irisa. He looked at her for awhile, wandering whether or not he should disturb her because it looked as if she were sleeping.

Irisa's ears twitched before she lazily yawned and opened her eyes. She was in mid-stretch before she realized she was not alone. She froze looking at the brightly colored individual in front of her before scurrying, or rather, falling off the rock. Landing flat on her face Irisa struggled to get to her feet. "P-please don't hurt me, p-p-please." She puffed up her body as much as she could in an attempt to look big and tough, though it was obvious this Palui was not tough by how much her body was shaking.

Cullan watched as she fell off of the rock, afraid to help her because she already seemed scared. He was shocked by the fact that she thought he would hurt her. "Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you," he said, trying to be as comforting as possible, she seemed really shaken up. "Why ever would you think such a thing?" he asked, wondering if someone had hurt her before.

"Y-y-y-you mean you're not going to eat me?" Irise perked up, dropping her "tough" act. She climbed back onto the rock she had sunned on, still shaking, but obviously calmer than before. She moved her face closer to Cullan's, giving him a quick sniff before backing away again, clearly unsure about what to do next. She gave Cullan another quick glace before looking away again quickly, blushing. She had never been this close to another Palui before, mostly because she was always hiding from anything and everything that seemed like it could be a threat to her.

Cullan chuckled a little at her question. "Eat you? Whatever gave you that impression?" He thought about it for a minute. "No, I wouldn't eat you, you're much too pretty. Now, for some of the other palui I'm not so sure I could say the same," he said, attempting to be funny, but probably failing. He was slightly taken aback by her sniffing him seeing as how shy she seemed to be, but he, too, leaned in towards her and sniffed, trying to make sure he didn't make her uncomfortable. He didn't know why, but he felt as if he should get to know this palui and befriend her.

The brightly colored earth Palui fidgeted while the other sniffed her. She was completely still, not wanting to make any sudden movements that might startle him into eating her. Though he really didn't seem like the type. He ears perked from their normal drooped position as he spoke. "Y-y-you mean you don't plan on eating me? N-not even once I've let my guard down?" While it might come across as rude Irisa never trusted anyone nor thought anyone had good intentions. Why would someone want to befriend her when Palui to meet?

Cullan didn't think that Irisa was being rude, she was just a scared palui. Although, he didn't know why in the world she would be scared of him, he would never hurt a fly, unless someone he loved was in danger. He looked at Irisa, "Of course I won't eat you, not even when your guard is down. I promise." He didn't know why, but he felt like it was now his job to protect her.

Irisa perked her ears up again. "You promise, promis-" CRACK! A nearby branch gave out under what was probably just a small animals foot. This didn't cause Irisa to stop from panicking though. "Oh my god, oh my god it's coming to eat me! EAT ME!" She shot under Cullan's feet or rather, pushed her way under them since he wasn't much bigger then her. "Save me please!" She looked up at him with tearful, scared eyes. At least he had gained her trust.

Cullan quickly scanned the area after hearing the crack, wandering what it had been and zeroing in on the area it had come from. He puffed up a little, ready for anything, but not really worried. He looked down at Irisa, "I'm sure nothing is coming to eat you. It's probably just a small animal or something." And, sure enough, as soon as Cullan finished speaking, a small squirrel came out of the trees near the area where the crack had been. The squirrel was carrying a little nut. Cullan sighed with relief, glad that it wasn't something bigger, and looked down at Irisa, "See? I told you so."

Irisa let out a small sigh of relief when she saw the squirrel. She had been so sure it would have been something far bigger and far scarier then a squirrel. Not to say squirrels didn't scare her, she just knew they couldn't really harm her.
"A-are you sure that its not just a trap?" "M-maybe something big and scary was c-chasing the squirrel!" Irisa looked up at Cullan with her big, watery puppy eyes and clung closer to him. "P-protect me please..."

Cullan chuckled as the squirrel scurried off quickly. The little fella must've noticed him and Irisa and decided he didn't want to be eaten. "I'm sure it isn't a trap. Nothing big and scary ever comes through this part of the forest, even to chase squirrels." He looked down at Irisa, seeing how scared she was and, for a split second, getting lost in the beautiful colours of her eyes. He heard her ask him to protect her, and at that moment he wanted to do nothing more than be her protector, the one that she could lean on and trust. "I promise I'll protect you. Don't worry." He looked down at her again and wondered where in the world these emotions were coming from, but there was no doubt that he didn't want them to go away.

Irisa looked up at her protector, quickly looking back towards the ground upon meeting Cullan's eyes. A light blush crossed her face as she crept out from under Cullan, feeling somewhat safe for the first time in her life. Though her body was still shaking it was clear that she was much more comfortable than she had been earlier.
The brightly colored Palui glanced back up at her protector, a blush still crossing her face. "T-thank you.." she glanced down again before continuing, "O-oh I'm terribly sorry...I haven't even introduced myself. I-I'm Irisa." She gave a small smile at Cullan, awaiting her protector's name.

Cullan smiled at her blushing, deciding not to say anything about it. He was glad to see that she seemed a little more relaxed around him than before. That was definitely a good sign.
He nodded in response to the thank you. "You are most welcome," Cullan said. "Don't worry about it," he replied, "I didn't think to introduce myself either. I'm Cullan." He stared at her for a minute, smiling back at her, "It's nice to meet you, Irisa."
