Ink sighed. There was always a sort of peacefulness just before dawn. The soft darkness of nighttime, not a sound to interrupt the peaceful tranquility. When the mere foreshadowing glow of light at the edge of the horizon sent streaks of color across the indigo sky. The shimmers of light that chased the stars away. Until only one remained. A flicker of night in the predawn warmth.

Starlight, starbright, last star that I see tonight…

She concentrated for a second, thinking of a wish, any wish, that she could send up to the skies. But nothing came, her mind remained blank. And when she looked up to see the star again, it had vanished. Ink sighed, a soft sound escaping through parted lips. What did she have to wish for? She had long ago settled pm clinging to the stubborn belief that she had everything she wanted. She got to travel, see new things, without a care in the world. But it wasn’t truly happiness. As much as she liked to ignore that painful nagging in the back of her mind, it was true.

She took a few steps forward, navy gaze still trained on the sky. It was lighter now. Warm splashes of amber and gold stained the sky now, the sun itself just visible. Another night gone by, another day to endure. A monotonous cycle she couldn’t break away from. She didn’t just want to survive anymore. She wanted to live. To have fun.

She turned her face one last time towards the heavens, meagerly hopeful that she’d catch one last glimpse of her star. Now that she had something to wish for.

For some, the time was far too early to be awake. Many ignored the allure of sunrises for a few more moments of sleep, though it wasn't the sunrise that called Galahad. He had always been an early riser, no doubt all thanks to his parents lifestyle. His father, Crousader, was a trained warrior for Islagiatt - heaven forbid his children become idle with laziness and sleep the day away. They had been up and training or learning lessons even before the dew on the grasses evaporated, or the morning mists had burned away. As a colt he had secretly complained about such hours. . . but now that he was an adult, he could appreciate the quiet mornings.

Today was no exception.

Kaiya was still out and about. She had given him warning that she might linger away, working hard on a lost soul as well as needing to seek out an old companion of yore. The way she had spoke told Galahad not to press the issue; instead he had wished her well and the two had parted ways. He knew though to be patient and while she was away he could continue to practice what he preached. . . . Love all, judge none, and seek out those in need.

Step by step through the morning, the pale unicorn enjoyed the rising of the sun. Night was slowly washed away by violets, pinks, oranges than yellows. Every sunrise was as unique as the day it brought. . . what might this day bring? Turning his gaze away from the sun, the stallion only then noticed he wasn't quite a lone.

About a hundred feet away stood another soquili . . . a mare from the looks of it, and quite the colourful one at that! Surprised but pleased that his morning wasn't necessarily alone, the stallion wondered what the spirits had in mind. Continuing on his stroll, as he got closer, he gave a dip of his head. "Top of the morning to you, m'lady," he greeted amicably. He hoped he wouldn't disturb her, pausing just briefly so he wasn't construed as rude. "Forgive my interruption, but it's nice to see I'm not the only early riser in these lands."

Ink was oblivious, still caught up in the blinding colors of the sky, so at the sudden voice so near by, she couldn’t help but jump slightly. “And to you.” She stammered in reply, her audits flicking back and forth uncertainly, dipping her in head towards the gallant stallion. “I’m sorry, I thought I was alone here.” Usually she was. Even if another Soquili stumbled upon her presence, they turned their face away and departed quicker than they had come. And she was left alone again. A fact that bothered her more than it had in the past. Ink focused on the stallion, letting her navy gaze survey him. “No worries. You weren’t interrupting anything. Just me, being me, I guess.” A soft smile played about her features.

“I always wake up early to watch the sunrise. It eases the suffocation of solitude.” She brought her shoulders up in a half-shrug, casting a quick glance towards the sky. “I haven’t seen anyone here for so long.” Her voice held an almost wistful tone for a moment before she shifted into a more playful grin. “I take it that waking early is not a preferred past time of Soquili in your acquaintance?” She could almost imagine the luxury. But it had long since been hardwired into her mind that sleep was only useful to recharge the body and soul for the day ahead. She couldn’t quite understand why it would become a source of leisure for some. So much to do in what daylight hours they were given.

Above, the sun was rising ever higher. As it drifted above the horizon, the vivid colors of dawn had begun to recede. “What about you?” Ink tilted her head to one side questioningly. “Why would a stallion such as yourself be so eager for a walkabout this early? If not to seek out and catch all unsuspecting mares by surprise.” Her attempt as a hard tone failed and she slipped into a grin. Relaxing, she flicked her audits forward. “I’m Ink.”

Galahad inwardly winced as the mare jumped. He hadn't meant to actually surprise her, and wondered if perhaps he should have been more vocal about his approach. But what was done was done, and at least the mare hadn't actually bolted from fright at his sudden appearance. Green eyes sparkled with amusement, a gentle smile crossing his features as he glanced around. "Until I interrupted your view, you were quite alone. Once again, m'lady, forgive my intrusion." The stallion bowed his head, genuinely apologetic.

Galahad's ears did p***k forward as the colourful mare mentioned her reason for watching the sunrise. The suffocation of solitude. . .? Though kaiya always understood that every meeting, every moment was a gift and reason from the spirits above, Galahad had to wonder if perhaps this meeting wasn't just pure coincidence. Though the mare didn't appear to be aggressive, crazy or in any sense of the word broken like many soquili he'd met, he also understood that appearances meant nothing. Already she had given away a key that perhaps not all was right in her life. . . .

"Nature can indeed be a beautiful and a great comfort to the soul," he admitted, turning his gaze away from the mare only to peek up at the sky. The once vivid morning was fading in to more pastel hues, only to soon be burned away by the blue sky of day. A shame so many preferred sunsets to the much more forgotten dawns. He allowed a moment to pass, enjoying the view, before his green eyes lowered to meet her own once again. "Actually, many in my immediate family are early risers. My father is a warrior; as such, my brother and I never acquired an art for sleeping in." As such, it didn't bother the stallion to be awake during dawn. . . But it wasn't a luxury he had been allowed either.

"Perhaps, the good lady wouldn't mind a spot of company this morning? It's been too long since I've had the honor of sharing a sunrise," he admitted with another smile, giving his long tail a lazy flick. "I myself am merely passing through, allowing the spirits the honor of guiding my feet to where they are most needed." Kaiya was still away, pursuing her own feats, but it felt like ages. He'd grown quite accustomed to a friend. . . It was odd being without. Furthermore, many he'd met had been LESS than friendly. . . and the scars on his body proved as much.

"Tis a pleasure to meet you, m'lady Ink, I'm Galahad and it's truly an honor." He graced her with another great bow, genuine in all his movements and words. "Perhaps you may forgive me for my earlier start; I truly hadn't meant to surprise or intrude."

Ink nodded in agreement slowly. “A great comfort. Sometimes, its all one truly needs.” Nature was indeed a great comfort to her. Becoming whatever she needed it to be. A home, a friend. A future. Or maybe she was finally losing it. Withdrawing into her seclusion beyond the typical means. The very thought sent a shiver of fear over her body. After everything she’d been through, it seemed ironic that her self-imposed isolation could be her end. In her mind’s eye, she tried to throw the thought away, refusing to let herself dwell in any form of paranoia.

“I have to say, your family sounds… interesting.” She remarked lightly. A warrior father. It was like something out of a storybook. She paused, studying the stallion before her for a few seconds more. Come to think of it, he himself was like a fictional character. One of the gallant stallions of legend that always swooped down in the nick of time to save the fair maiden from the clutches of the diabolical villain. Hardly. She was no fair maiden. No villain sought to destroy her. Except perhaps, her own loneliness. “I could hardly refuse the company of a kind stallion on a morning such as this.” She said so graciously. She couldn’t bear to be left alone again, not yet. It had been so long since anyone had bothered to converse with her.

Again, the image of a storybook hero flashed through Ink’s mind, taking form of the white stallion. He seemed to wander much like she did, but in order to help others instead of for his own gain. Surprising. She had slowly become accustomed to the general selfish nature that tended to thrive in most Soquili who passed her way. Such an evident difference was refreshing. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir." She murmured with equal politeness. Galahad. Even his name seemed to remind her of chivalrous old-time mannerisms. The polite bows without any hint of false emotion brought a smile to her lips once more. Such actions were so often faked nowadays, losing their true meaning. But he seem to bring back the genuine feel of it all.

“Don’t worry about it. I should have been paying more attention to my surroundings. I just lose myself sometimes. I never can get over how big it is out here. Stretching out forever, like it seems to.” She gestured around them. The wideness of the sky would never cease to amaze her. She always felt like a child, as though seeing everything for the first time even when the scenery grew familiar.

The white coated stallion had no idea that the mare before him was standing on the edge of a breaking point. Unlike Kaiya, he couldn't sense such problems nor was he able to know those of which were 'off' . . . It wasn't an ability he'd been gifted with and it and it certainly wasn't something he'd ever truly master. Thankfully though, his great compassion and empathy allowed him to be cautious of those who seemed fragile or easily upset. Unfortunatily, once again, Ink had done nothing to warrent such concern. . . not yet, at any rate.

She seemed gentle and much more soft spoken then some of his sisters or the mutant he'd met by the sea. In fact, compared to Pascale Ink and she were of night and day~! But to each their own. . . .

For now, he'd enjoy his morning meeting a new stranger within the Kawani. A very colourful stranger at that, with her ebony splotches atop the assorted rainbow patterns. "Interesting is an understatement," he added with a deep chuckle, green eyes bright with amusement. "They're far from perfect but I wouldn't change any of them for the world." Which was mostly true . . . His father could tolerate to be a bit more compassionate but, rumor had it, he was trying. . . . "And if you think they're interesting, the lady should someday hear of the herd they live within. Now there's a varied group full of intrigue." Islagiatt was indeed something amazing. . . with Yei as the head, and the various families he'd had the great fortune to hear about or meet. . . . Ah, but someday he'd return for good. . . perhaps once he was old and grey and finished with his travels and mission.

Maybe. To save he world was a big task and the stallion understood that he would not complete it in his lifetime. . . .no stallion or mare ever could. But that didn't meant he couldn't give it his all and hope to serve some good by the end of his days. Only the gods would know exactly what hearts he helped to change in the name of good.

"It's easy to get overwhelmed by the vastness of nature and the world around us," the stallion agreed with a nod. "It makes one feel small and perhaps insignificant, for better or worse," he added, taking a moment to gaze up at the soft pinks and blues of the morning. With the open sky surrounding everywhere he looked, even the great knight felt overwhelmed. "But perhaps that's what makes it so magnificent. That no matter what worries and fears may haunt you, no matter what happens to us soquili, nature will always prevail. There will always be another sunrise, there will always be another day to enjoy." Perhaps the mare might find his words cheesy, but to Galahad such a view was hopeful.

No matter how bad or bleak things looked down upon the plains, there was always another day. Time stopped for no one and all one could do was keep on trucking forward, even when life seemed too difficult to bear.
