The Story Thus Far....
Thousands of years ago, the Angel Raziel mixed his blood with the blood of men and created the race of the Nephilim. Human-angel hybrids, they walk among us, unseen but ever-present, our invisible protectors.
They call themselves Shadowhunters.
The Shadowhunters obey the laws set down in the Gray Book, given to them by the angel: their mandate is to protect our world from the interdimensional parasites they call demons, who travel from world to world, razing and destroying everything in their path. Theirs is also the task of keeping the peace among the warring Downworlders: the human-demon crossbreeds we know as warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and faeries.
In their duties they are aided by the mysterious Silent Brothers. Their lips and eyes sewn shut, the Silent Brothers rule over the City of Bones, the necropolis below the streets of Manhattan that holds the dead bodies of slain Shadowhunters. The Silent Brothers keep the archival records of ever Shadowhunter ever born. They also watch over the Mortal Instruments, the three divine objects the Angel Raziel gave to his children. One is a sword. One is a mirror. And the last is a cup.
For a thousand years, the Nephilim have protected the Mortal Instruments. But that was before the Uprising, the civil war that almost tore the Shadowhunters' secret world apart. Though Valentine, the Shadowhunter who started the war, is long dead, the wounds it left behind have never healed.
Fifteen years have passed since the Uprising. It's August in New York; the streets blistering with heat. Rumors run rampant through Downworld that Valentine is back, at the head of an army of Forsaken warriors
People are beginning to notice some changes in their world and more Downworlders are beginning to rise. The Shadowhunters have their work cut out for them, keeping the world in check and balance. Power is slowly turning to Valentine...
Meanwhile the Clave, a selected council of Shadowhunters who uphold the
will of Raziel, want to rid the world of Valentine...easier said than done. They are willing to go to any lengths to get rid of him....even sacrifice Shadowhunters for the cause. Some say the Clave is corrupted...some say they are trustworthy. Who knows....but they suspect Jace as one in league with Valentine....will they track him down and kill him or will they use him to get them close to Valentine. Jace is the only person Valentine confides to...again, who knows?

For several years now, fifteen year old Clarissa (Clary) Fray has thought her brother Jace Wayland has been killed. It turns out that he hasn't, Valentine had taken him captive and he has escaped. Now he makes his way back to Brooklyn to inform Clary that he is alive. He wishes to inform her as well as the Lightwoods who have been worried sick about him. Valentine prepares to attack Brooklyn and erase it from the face of the Earth, can Jace and his friends stop him in time?

A little background info: When he was born, his mother ran out and he never had a chance to meet her. He had been raised by his father and he was a hard man but fair and taught him much in the ways of a Shadowhunter. Jace has trained hard but when he turned ten, his father had died and he had to be sent away. Now at seventeen, he lives with his close friends, almost like his other family. Alec and Isabelle Lightwood have taken him into their home and treated him like their blood brother. From then on, they all worked together in perfect harmony to defeat Downworlders and demons. As a Shadowhunter, Jace has faced many obstacles in his life. He wishes to be a part of something, something bigger. He doesn't feel as if he ever belonged anywhere and even with people around him he feels lonely. This is a reason to why he has such an arrogant nature. Now that Valentine has revealed to Jace his secrets for Brooklyn, he knew that he had to escape and warn the others. He hopes that he is strong enough to face down Valentine, he also hopes to protect his family especially Clary....
