Sirens on the Shore --- private role-play
Players: Sevilin & We`rika and Melisande Setting: Barton beach; warm and windy afternoon
--- Sevilin trailed along the coast sluggishly, watching the sand below with a careful eye, humming a haunting melody that lingered in his consciousness from perhaps a life past. He kept his long wind-whipping hair out of his face with two thick pigtails behind his pale back, and his large sun hat formed a dark halo across the shore. With a hand anchoring his hat to his little crown, every so often, the little sea nymph stopped and combed through the hot grains in search of sea shells or sand dollars. Slim pickins, this trip. Oh well, it was still a nice day. Licking the salty sweat from his finger that had beaded across his head, Sevilin pushed his sun hat up out of his face to squint down the coast from where he had started. His guardian lay on the dry sand "tanning." The little frei was pretty sure We`rika didn't need to be any browner, more like he was smoking something he shouldn't have been. Clearing his throat, the blue raevan dug through the sand a bit more diligently until a cracked beige shell peeked out. He took it kindly in hand and floated to the lapping shore, washing the last of the granules that were stuck in its grooves. Eventually the soothing nudge of the waves across his cupped hands left Sevilin quiet, focusing on nothing but the calming sensation.

It hadn't taken long for Melisande to get changed. She'd spotted the Raevan when he was still quite a ways down the beach, and the muse now labored pulling a folded sun shade across the sand. Wings spread, flapping every tug, Melisande left a large dashed line in the sand where the tip of the umbrella trailed.
Pausing to catch her breath, slender chest rising and falling under her ruffled pink one piece, Melisande rested against the umbrella like a staff. She didn't want to call out for help...the pretty blue Frei looked so at peace! Pasha remembered Sevvie from her first days in the lab, and the summer party to boot...surely it would be okay that she invited herself to join in his day at the beach?
Setting down the little basket she'd carried over one arm, rubbing at the pink spot the handle had left, Melisande let the umbrella whump to the sand and bobbed up behind Sevvie. She had been in a lovely mood ever since her date with Zavier, and the muse gave her position away by giggling the moment before she aimed a tiny, sneaky splash at Sevvie's back.

Sevilin hadn't realized how long he had sat broiling in the sun until the cold splash of water no doubt sizzled across his hot skin and soothed the burn. The cool overshadowing umbrella allowed the little frei to pull his head up skyward and find a familiar face.
"Meli..." His face went slack with surprise, but it quickly reshaped into a wide smile. "Wooow..." It was an unconscious comment but a flattering one. His eyes traveled from her to the sand where a large scar was etched across the smooth sand. "Oh my... Yer pretty strong. I prolly couldn't have done that!"
Laughing melodiously, he slowly floated back up and over to Melisande. His thin arms wrapped around the sigel's neck amiably and hugged his friend tightly. "It's been so long! I can't believe it's been like almost a year! What are you doing out here? Do you live around here? You look so pretty! Is that a new top....?" He pulled back and held her delicate shoulders at arms length, giving her an innocent once over.

The muse brightened instantly at Sevvie's compliment. His attention was like a cool breeze, refreshing and invigorating. Meli's hands settled low on the sides of his torso as they hugged, keeping in touch even after he leaned back. "Strong? Do you think so?" Her tone echoed with delight. No one had EVER called her strong before!! Maybe it was true!
"It IS a new top, and I do live near here!" She kept up with his questions easily, curls swinging as she nodded up to the cliffs. "I live up there! I saw you! We can go to my room later, if you want?"
After another squeeze, Meli let her hands drop...drifting back to gesture at the water with wide arms. "It's gorgeous today! Do you come here a lot?!"

"Oh totally! Stronger than me!" But after he said that, Sevilin knew that it didn't take much to be stronger than him. Hmmm. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he thought he couldn't let his masculinity be scarred by such a comment, but it was a very fleeting notion. Probably a sub-conscious We`rika thought.
"Ohhh yeah! I'd love ta see yer room! I bet it's so pretty and clean!" He'd never seen a girl's room before. Actually he'd never seen anyone's room except We`rika's which was................. nasty as, well, a Mexican man's room would be. But he was pretty sure Meli was not slovenly, so it was going to be quite the experience.
"Uhh yeah! Well, not this one specifically, but I come to the beach a lot. I was about to go swimming, wanna come?" The sea nymph tilted his head to the side and swayed back and forth with a soft smile.

Melisande was delighted that Sevvie would come see her room, but her smile faltered as she looked out at the water. Every single time she came to the beach, she wore her little swim tops...but she couldn't remember ever actually swimming!
"I...well..." A bit of sun kissed pink settled on her cheeks, and she peered at Sevvie sheepishly through her curls. "I'm not sure I know how!"

Sevilin gasped! He was amazed so many Raevans hadn't gone swimming yet. Poor dears, they were missing out on the greatest past-time. "Well no worries cause you've got the best teacher right here for ya!" If he could teach a Mexican rat to swim, he could easily teach a sweet girl.
"H'okie, c'mere!" Floating closer, the little blue frei took one of her hands in his and smiled peacefully. "It's real easy... It's aaallll about the arm movement..." Lifting her arm with his, he began to do a slow dog paddle. "And this will motor you anywhere ya wanna go. Or I guess you could use yer wings too... Like a boat. Have you ever been on a boat?! I always wanted to, but We`rika doesn't have one so I can't go. And I think they are really expensive to like... "rent" or whatever.... Very sad... ........." Sevilin stared out into the ocean with a serious frown. ".................. What were we talking about? Oh! Swimming! Okay... so like.... you do yer dog paddle aaand yeah! Cause I mean... we're already.... floating so it's not like we can drown..." With a final laugh, he began to gently guide her to the water's edge.
"Ready?"

Melisande followed willingly. She trusted Sevvie, but he spoke so quickly it was hard to take all the information in! "My brother has a boat! He's a pirate. It has sails!" The muse practiced furling one pale wing, then the other...using the bit of wind to push her this way or that. Her hand tightening in Sevilin's, she nodded, and leaned down to splash a bit at the water. Cold!
"I'm ready! Don't...don't let me go! I know you can keep me safe." Melisande's faith seemed almost like a tangible thing, an inspiring vote of confidence as she followed the Frei into the surf. "Brr~!"

Sevilin gasped with a loud vacuumous breath, inhaling an unlucky bug and consequently coughing and gagging until it dislodged itself from his lung. "Y... Y--" He stopped to clear the last of the deadly insect. "Yer brother's a pirate?! Wha! Wha! That's amazing! Does he take you out on his ship ever? Well.. I guess it would kinda be dangerous... being a pirate an' all...." Still. What an adventure! Why wasn't his family this interesting? All he had was a Mexican that drank and sat around.
Looking to Melisande, the little frei smiled as she tightened her grip on him and pulled her close. "Fear not, maiden! I shall protect you!" Feeling a surprising boost of pride, the blue Raevan took his friend into the breaking waves. They lapped lazily against their ribbon until a large crest pulled the water back and toppled forward with a great rush. Sevilin grabbed Pasha gently with his arms and turned her away from the surf, leaving him to bear the brunt of the water with a laugh. "Wooow, this beach is kinda mean! Are you okay?" Tilting her head back, he wiped away the salt water that threatened to drip into her eyes. "Here, let's hurry before the next big one comes...!"
Once there was enough depth below them, the sea nypmh beckoned Pasha to dip under the surface. "Don't worry! You'll be able to breathe as long as yer holding on to me kay?"

The conversation was nice, it helped distract her from the surging waves. "I did get to sail once, but I wasn't feeling well. I don't remember it much. His ship is called the Lady Gaia! I'm sure he'd take you one day, if you wanted~" It was a shame she didn't read minds, because in truth, all her brother usually did was sit around and drink as well!
The muse followed Sev willingly, if still a bit shy about the cold. Her satin ribbon spiraled a bit higher, as though it shared the sentiment. She'd just opened her mouth to laugh at Sevvie's sweet promise to protect her when the wave hit, leaving her spluttering. The ocean was...salty!! Clinging to Sev with both hands now, she let him wipe the water from her forehead and started at him with wide blue eyes...eyes that suddenly seemed much bigger once she was wet, and the volume of her curls were flatted against her skin. "Oh! My!" Her smile returned slowly as the shock faded, but the flowers at her temples stayed closed tightly into buds, like little disturbed sea anemones.
She knew she was stalling, but Melisande paused for a moment and looked down at the nymph as he ducked into the water. "Oh, Sevvie~ You're so lovely!" The water suited him well...his wings and hair seemed to come alive! Nodding at the reassurance, putting all her trust in her old friend, Pasha took a deep breath and dipped under the surface.
Cheeks puffed out comically as she held onto her air, Pasha bobbed a bit, getting her bearings. Blonde curls surrounded her face like kelp, tugging in the current. She did it! She was swimming!!

Sevilin could only cant his eyes down to the ocean floor as a touch of blush crosses his pale cheeks. He always enjoyed compliments, but he had no witty response for Melisande. And so he simply pulled her close and ran his fingers through his soft hair. "Yer hair's pretty under water!" Sevilin did his best to articulate the words as he shouted. "Mine's waaay too long for the sea! It gets caught in things all the time...!" Like that poor poor crab.. or the coral reef, oh lord... He had to get We`rika to cut him out of that one.
Motioning to the shallows, he guided Pasha through the water, using his wings as a burst of power to push him along. He pointed to the ripples in the sand and the scattering of seashells yet to be broken by the crushing surf. There was not much to see until the shallows stopped and plunged deep into the dark abyss of the ocean. That was where the fun was. He stopped at the edge where the coral reefs were the most abundant and let Meli explore the vibrant gardens, letting her lead him around by the hand. "Don't worry! Nothing will hurt you!" Or,well, he wouldn't let anything hurt her.

Melisande giggled at Sevilin talking underwater, and clapped a hand over her mouth in shock as her air bubbles escaped. Uh oh! But the nymph was right...she could breathe! Relaxing slowly, her eyes creased with a smile. This was wonderful!
Edging into the reef, careful to avoid the sharp bits, Pasha swayed this way and that. She wasn't nearly as good as Sevvie at controlling where she wished to go, but it was certainly fun to try! Holding his hand tightly, she gave her heavy wings a stroke and angled closer to the bottom...looking at all the pretty shells. She fancied that she looked like a big pink fish herself, with a ribbon tail and great big fins!
"Ooh, look abubub- abubh?" Talking underwater was HARD! Laughing again, Melisande pulled on Sevvie's hand and drew him in close...pointing at the little silvery fish that darted near the surface. So pretty!!

Sevilin couldn't stop from laugh himself at her sweet attempt to talk. "It takes... getting used to...!" He said slowly with exaggerated annunciation to show her how. "Easiest to talk slow and loud!" Nodding, he looked up at the shimmering surface and to the fish that swam away. He turned his attention back to the dormant reef and smiled.
With a come hither finger and a impish smirk, the sea fairy pointed to a mound of coral and inched closer until his face was a few inches away. He feigned a large breath of air and blew hard across the hard reef, summoning sea creatures and a cloud of sand into the air. The dull reef became a vibrant palette of fishes and life that wandered between Sevilin and Melisande languidly with no fear of two sirens.
One big angel fish caught Sevilin's blue eyes and he beckoned it close, sticking out his own lips to mirror his marine friend and turned to Pasha. "Wanna give it a kiss?"

Melisande nodded, still laughing form Sevvie's explanation. "I...will...trybub! bububu!" Giggling at her own bubbles, Pasha wiggled closer to Sevvie as he motioned...eyes round as she peered at the reef. Sevilin's breath was like magic! A single call from the siren left color and motion in its wake, a burst of marine enchantment!
Turning slowly, golden hair fanning around her, Pasha cooed in amazement. All the fish were so lovely, she forgot to be nervous about breathing! Her hair was much longer under water, curls pulled out long by the currant, and her eyes were magnified by the watery wonder.
As she completed her turn, she abruptly caught sight of Sevvie, lips pursed like a fish. "Wuah~!" Gasping in amusement, Melisande giggled...another string of silvery bubbles. "A fish?! No, I want to give YOU a kiss!" It came out a bit garbled, but Melisande made herself clear by holding Sevvie's delightful face gently, and pressing a seaflavored kiss high on his cheek before folding her wings shut, and darting gleefully away.
What an adventure this was!!

The sea fairy's blue eyes grew as Melisande came closer, the young angel fish having long wriggled free and swam off to find shelter once more. "Wh--?" Before he could slap the goofy expression off his face, Sevilin's cheeks were cupped between warm hands and a soft peck touched his the corner of his eye.
"Heh..." A slow sheepish grin split his round face, but before he could say anything, Pasha was off in a shot, leaving the little frei in a cloud of bubbles. "He--Heeey!" Laughing, he swam off after her. "Jeez! Yer pretty fas-- ........ Meli! D-Dun move..." A long winding creature was wandering too close to Melisande for his comfort. He darted quickly the last few feet of distance between them. If he had known an eel was sleeping around the coral, he wouldn't have awoken the community. Now it was thoroughly irate. Greeat.
Taking hold of his friend's arm, he gently guided her back slowly, hoping the eel did not take it as a threat to its life. Once Melisande was behind him, he floated forward to try and lead the bugger off. "Go on!" He pointed away from them. "Go! SHOOO!!" Ugh, of all the nice marine life, he had to pick a fight with a mean ol' eel. "Go awaaay~! It was my fault, now get!-- NO THE OTHER WAY!" As it came closer, Sevilin finally through out his hand an struck it. Which, in hindsight was not a good idea because now his fingers were numb and the amount of electricity flowing through his little body left him shaking. But as sudden as it came (though it truly felt like a lifetime), it ended and the eel darted off after assault.
"Ow..." He pulled his hand up to his face and waited until they began to twitch under his command once more. "Mmm maybe we should uhh.... play .... somewhere else for now..." Ugh, he felt like someone had just punched him in the chest. This must be how We`rika felt after binge drinking.
